Ring's new AI feature summarizes security camera footage for you — those alerts just got less annoying

Tom's Guide26-06-2025
Owners of Ring cameras and doorbells just got access to a new AI-powered feature called Video Descriptions. Intended to provide a detailed description of the events recorded around your home, Video Descriptions can help you determine whether or not an activity is urgent or ordinary by sending you a concise notification about it.
In a statement released about the feature, Ring's inventor, Jamie Siminoff said the company is 'seizing on the potential of gen AI to shift more of the work of home security to Ring's AI.' Video Descriptions is the first step in that direction, by helping users quickly determine how important a motion event is with a glance. It will be rolling out first in beta to Ring Home Premium subscribers in the U.S. and Canada.
The feature can be enabled through the Ring app and will work with all currently available Ring cameras and doorbells. Once active, it will begin sending users notifications of text descriptions of the motions and activities it picks up, in real time. For example, it can provide helpful information like 'two people are peering into a white car in the driveway' or my favorite example, 'a dog is tearing up paper towels on the rug.'
Video Descriptions uses real intelligence to limit the notifications to only the main subject of the motion and their action, which keeps the alerts short and to the point. At the same time, Ring is adding custom anomaly alerts which learn the routines of your household and can send you a notification when something is out of the ordinary for your property.
Siminoff said the company is thinking about how to build Ring today as if they were starting with AI as the foundation, and they are just starting to scratch the surface of AI. They see unlimited potential for using it in new experiences they can invent for their customers. 'The team and I look forward to introducing new impactful features to all our products, making them better and better, and helping us deliver on our mission to help protect our neighborhoods and communities.'

Get the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus for $99 in this early Prime Day deal

When I see a good deal, I get excited. Knowing that a product that many people will want is available at a discount warms my heart. When a deal is at an all-time low, I get even more thrilled. The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is on sale for $99, which is its lowest price ever. Considering it usually sells for $179, this is an excellent opportunity to enhance the security of your home with a bright floodlight and camera. The previous all-time low price was $119, so this deal nets you an extra $20 off the last low price. (For more deals, check out our Prime Day deals live blog). This floodlight and camera combo has a history of being well-received by Amazon shoppers. It has all of the essential features offered by the more expensive Pro model, but with just a few minor cuts (they both offer 1080p video and two super bright 3000° Kelvin with 2000 Lumen floodlights, While we haven't reviewed the Floodlight Cam Wired Plus, we do have a Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro review, and it covers many of the features offered on the Plus with just a few minor notable upgrades. Most notably, we appreciated the brightness of the floodlights, and both models share the same brightness rating. Ultimately, we awarded it a solid 4-star rating, reflecting the device's overall quality. We noted that it's "Ring's best floodlight camera," which is solid for a company that makes some great models. But as good as it is, the Floodlight Cam Wired Plus offers most of the same benefits at a much lower price. Between the advanced motion detection alerts with customizable zones, high-resolution video capture (so you can really see that bear eating your garbage can) and bright lights, this has everything you could want from a floodlight for your smart home. If you want a floodlight from a different brand (perhaps you're already part of the Google Nest ecosystem), check out our best outdoor security cameras buying guide for all the info you need to help you make the right purchase decision for you.

Get Ring's Indoor and Outdoor Cameras Together for 50% off Today

Tired of guessing who's at your door or what your pets are doing while you're away? A good home security setup used to cost an arm and a leg, but now you can snag a Ring Battery Doorbell and a Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) for just $70. For a limited time, this smart home duo is available for 50% off its usual price of $140. If you've been eyeing either of these Ring devices, now's a good time to pounce—this is the lowest price we've seen for this bundle in the last six months. The Ring Battery Doorbell gives you "66% more vertical coverage," meaning you'll see everything from the top of your visitor's head to the packages they might have left on your porch. You'll also get instant notifications on your phone when motion is detected, and with two-way talk, you can chat with anyone at your door, even when you're not home. It's battery-powered, so installation is very easy regardless of your wiring setup. To go along with the outdoor view, you get the Ring Indoor Cam (2nd Gen) in white. This little camera offers 1080p HD video and Color Night Vision, ensuring you can keep an eye on things even at night when the lights are out. It even has a manual privacy cover, so you can physically block the camera and microphone when you're at home if you'd like. Whether you're checking in on the kids, pets, or just making sure everything's secure, this is a handy camera. Together, these two devices create a nice package that covers both your front door and any indoor area of your choosing. Again, Amazon is listing this as a 'limited time deal,' but we don't really know how limited a time it will be. If you've been on the fence about beefing up your home security, now's the time to act and get peace of mind without breaking the bank.

The Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam drops to $40 for Prime Day

Ring's indoor camera that has a motorized base to give you a 360-degree view is cheaper than ever in a Prime Day deal. The Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam normally goes for $80, but it's dropped to just $40 for the Amazon savings event. That's even lower than the previous all-time low price of $50 that we've seen during other sales. The Pan-Tilt camera comes in five colors: Black, Blush, Charcoal, Starlight and White. Ring introduced the Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam in 2024. It can spin a full 360 degrees on its base, and tilts up and down with a tilt range of 169 degrees. That makes it especially helpful for keeping tabs on pets and other goings-on in the home. It offers live views in addition to 24/7 recording, and supports two-way talk for when you want to check-in with a family member. The Pan-Tilt Cam also offers HD color video day and night. The camera has a physical shutter as well, for when you want to be sure it's not watching. Sliding this will cover the camera, and Ring says it'll also disable the audio and video feeds. Setup should be easy with the Ring app, but if you aren't already in the Ring ecosystem, you'll need a subscription to use this camera. Ring offers three subscription options at $4.99, $9.99 and $19.99 per month.
