Revival of rain brings cool comfort amid showers in city

Bhopal: Bhopal received spells of showers during the day on Thursday as rainfall activity revived in city. Showers with moderate to heavy intensity would continue in the city. Parts of the state would witness heavy showers.
The meteorological dept stated the monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Bikaner, Datia, the centre of depression over southeast Uttar Pradesh, Dehri, Purulia, Digha, and east southeastwards to the northeast Bay of Bengal.
The depression lies over southeast Uttar Pradesh, near latitude 25.2°N and longitude 81.5°E, 40 km southwest of Prayagraj, 100 km northeast of Satna, 120 km east-southeast of Banda, and 160 km east of Khajuraho.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards across south Uttar Pradesh and adjoining north Madhya Pradesh during the next two days, the meteorological dept stated.
The day temperature in Bhopal on Thursday was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees less than the normal mark, while the night temperature in the city was 23.6 degrees Celsius, which was at the normal mark. The city recorded a total of 12 mm of rain between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm during the day.

A heavy rainfall warning existed for Vidisha, Raisen, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar, Narsinghpur, Anuppur, and Dindori districts.
A warning of thunderstorms and lightning existed for Bhopal, Sehore, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Indore, Chhindwara, Seoni, Balaghat, and Pandhurna districts.

Patna: The monsoon is expected to remain subdued on Saturday, with no rainfall anticipated in most of the regions. However, it is likely to regain momentum across the state from Sunday. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated light rainfall in parts of the northern districts of the state on Saturday. An alert of thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning activity, has been issued by the IMD for all the districts on Sunday. Heavy rain alert has also been issued for Kishanganj and Araria. Scattered rainfall is likely to occur in the northern and eastern districts of the state, whereas the southern districts are expected to receive isolated rainfall on Sunday. Maximum temperatures in most parts of the state are likely to rise by one to three degrees Celsius in the next two days, and fall thereafter. The minimum temperature is also likely to increase by one to three degrees Celsius within the next three to four days. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 34-36 degrees Celsius across the state for the next two days, whereas the minimum temperature is likely to range between 26-28 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, considering the rising water levels in the Falgu and Dhadha and Ganga rivers, the district administration has hired a total of 245 boatmen on a contractual basis to ensure the availability of local support for rescue and relief operations in case of an emergency. Additionally, a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at Gai Ghat, Patna City and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at Didarganj has been deployed and sent to the areas concerned for relief and rescue operations as per necessity.

Kochi/Kasaragod: India meteorological department (IMD) issued a heavy rainfall warning until July 23. A red alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on Saturday, while Kannur and Kasaragod are on red alert on Sunday. Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad districts are on orange alert on Saturday. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Wayanad are on alert for very heavy rainfall on Sunday, while Kannur and Kasaragod are on orange alert on Monday. A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam on Saturday. Seven districts — Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram — are on yellow alert on Sunday. Strong surface wind warning has been issued for the state with speeds reaching 40-50kmph likely over Kerala until Monday. Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50kmph, gusting to 60kmph, is likely along and off Kerala coasts. Fishermen have been asked to stay off these areas until Tuesday. Incois issued a high wave alert for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam coasts. New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) Several areas of Delhi experienced rainfall on Friday, with light showers predicted to persist in the coming hour, according to the weather department. Weather forecasts indicate that light rain and a cloudy sky are expected for Saturday as well. The Safdarjung observatory, the city's base weather station, recorded 7.3 mm of rain between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Palam recorded 2.8mm, Lodhi Road 9.5mm, Ridge 5.6 mm, Aya Nagar 1.5 mm, Pragati Maidan 9.5 mm, and Pusa registered 7.5 mm of rainfall, the IMD data read. The highest 24-hour rainfall was logged at Palam with 17.2 mm. Ridge station recorded 10.4 mm, Ayanagar received 8 mm, Najafgarh measured 13.5 mm, and Pusa noted 12.5 mm. Janakpuri and Narela recorded the least rainfall, with 3 mm and 0.5 mm, respectively. The maximum temperature across most parts of the city remained below average. Safdarjung recorded a high of 34.3 degrees Celsius, which is one degree below the seasonal average. Palam registered 33.3 degrees Celsius, while Ridge and Lodhi Road recorded highs of 33.1 and 33.2 degrees Celsius, respectively. Ayanagar was the coolest at 32.4 degrees Celsius, which is 2.9 degrees below normal, the weather office said. The minimum temperature recorded at Safdarjung was 23.6 degrees Celsius, 3.6 degrees below normal. Both Palam and Ridge logged a minimum temperature of 23.4 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity levels varied between 80 per cent at 8.30 am and 100 per cent at 5.30 pm. The IMD predicts that rain activity will continue in isolated areas of the capital region over the next 24 hours. The air quality in Delhi remained in the 'satisfactory" category with an air quality index (AQI) reading of 61, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good", 51 to 100 'satisfactory", 101 to 200 'moderate", 201 to 300 'poor", 301 to 400 'very poor", and 401 to 500 'severe".
