Saudi project clears 1,171 mines in Yemen

RIYADH: Members of Saudi Arabia's Project Masam removed 1,171 explosive devices from various regions of Yemen last week.
The total included 1,124 unexploded ordnances, 46 anti-tank mines and one anti-personnel mines, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Ousama Al-Gosaibi, the initiative's managing director, said that 505,466 mines have been cleared since the project began in 2018.
The explosives were planted indiscriminately and posed a threat to civilians, including children, women and the elderly.
The demining operations took place in Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale and Saada.
The project trains local demining engineers and provides them with modern equipment. It also offers support to Yemenis injured by the devices.
Teams are tasked with clearing villages, roads and schools to facilitate the safe movement of civilians and delivery of humanitarian aid.

A total of 27,094 vulnerable individuals benefited from the initiative, according to KSrelief.

In Pakistan, KSrelief provided 840 kits to displaced and affected families in the Haveli and Muzaffarabad districts of Jammu and Kashmir province, benefitting 5,232 individuals. In Somalia, KSrelief distributed 130 shelter kits, along with 100 clothing bags and 10 tents, to families in Baki Camp in the Awdal region, benefitting 1,440 people.

It includes cultural, artistic, sports, and adventure events, as well as workshops. The program emphasizes the preservation of artifacts and responsible engagement with cultural heritage, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday. Little Explorer is one of the commission's key initiatives to promote national identity and build a generation that values heritage. It is designed for young audiences, combining scientific knowledge with interactive learning. Participants learn the basics of archeology, artifact handling, and excavation through practical tools and realistic simulations, allowing creative and hands-on interaction with heritage.
