Lesson planning emerges as the top AI use case in classrooms; CENTA highlights gaps in teacher confidence and calls for structured training programs

Bengaluru: Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA®) As the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks its fifth anniversary with a spotlight on AI-driven learning platforms new data from CENTA® reveals that over 70 percent of Indian teachers are already integrating AI tools into their classrooms. The findings come from CENTA's latest nationwide survey of 5,000 educators and highlight both the growing adoption of AI and the continued need for structured training to address common misconceptions. CENTA's survey on classroom usage found that over 70 percent of teachers are already integrating AI tools into their teaching practices. Teachers with more than three years of experience show even higher adoption rates, with nearly 75 percent reporting active use of AI resources. The surveys revealed that lesson planning is the number one activity for which teachers use AI, with close to 60 percent of respondents choosing it as their primary use case. This trend holds consistent across both experience levels and school fee segments, highlighting AI's role as a planning and productivity tool across varied teaching environments. Additionally, around 26 percent of teachers use AI to generate activity ideas for their classrooms, reinforcing its value as a creative aid in lesson delivery. While 67% of respondents rated their expertise with AI at 6 or higher on a 10-point scale, and the average self-rating was 7 out of 10, only 57% could correctly answer a basic misconception question on AI posed by CENTA. The percentage of teachers who achieve CENTA's certification on 'AI in Teaching' is much lower. This reveals a clear gap between perceived expertise and actual understanding. Despite widespread adoption, there remains a significant need for structured training and skill development to help teachers use AI tools confidently and effectively. 'AI is rapidly becoming part of the modern classroom, but there remains a clear gap between adoption and genuine comfort among teachers,' said Ramya Venkataraman, Founder & CEO, CENTA. 'Our surveys highlight both the enthusiasm for technology and the urgent need for structured training and clear communication to help educators make the most of AI.' The survey also focused on perceptions and misconceptions about AI among a broader group that included educators, parents, and students. Findings revealed that 84 percent of respondents expressed concerns about AI. Specific worries included fears about AI's accuracy (cited by nearly 23 percent of respondents) and concerns around AI replacing human jobs in education (34 percent). Other notable concerns related to AI's impact on creativity, transparency, and misuse. The surveys gathered responses from a diverse range of stakeholders, including teachers, school leaders, teacher educators, parents, and students. Participants represented schools across different fee segments and regions, from no-fee institutions to those charging above INR 25,000 per month, reflecting a broad socio-economic spectrum. By sharing these findings, CENTA aims to spark focused conversations around building AI skills in education and ensuring that teachers, parents, and students engage with this transformative technology from a place of knowledge and confidence. CENTA plans to keep the live link to the survey in public domain and keep updating it with findings from time to time:

Debt-ridden Himachal turns to lottery to make a quick buck

Kullu: Cash-strapped Himachal Pradesh is trying its luck with lottery to turn its fortunes. The cabinet has allowed lottery operations that were shut down in 1999. Burdened by a Rs 1 lakh-crore debt, it hopes to make a modest Rs 50 to Rs 100 crore annually from sale of lottery tickets. The decision to reintroduce lottery in the mountain state after over a quarter century was taken in a cabinet meeting on July 31. The recommendation came from a cabinet sub-committee set up to give suggestions to boost state revenue. It seems to be inspired by other states that run lotteries. Neighbouring Punjab earned Rs 235 crore through sale of lottery tickets during the 2024-25 fiscal, while the tiny state of Sikkim made Rs 30 crore during the same period. Kerala tops the list — the southern state earned a jaw-dropping Rs 13,582 crore last financial year. Himachal, which is finding it difficult to meet the expenses of rebuilding the damage caused by this year's landslides and flash floods, hopes to mop up some much-needed funds this way. "Many states earn through lotteries. You will be surprised to know how much Kerala earns. Himachal Pradesh govt has decided to restart the lottery system in the state after a recommendation was made by a Cabinet sub-committee," said industries minister Harshwardhan Chauhan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like NRIs Living In Greece Are Eligible For INR 2 Lakh Monthly Pension. The decision to reintroduce lotteries in Himachal has come at a time when the state's debt stands at a back-breaking Rs 1,04,729 crore, and the per capita debt has reached Rs 1.17 lakh per head, the second highest after Arunachal Pradesh. To make the financial situation even worse, the revenue deficit grant (RDF), financial assistance from the Centre, has come down from Rs 6,258 crore in 2024 to Rs 3,257 crore in 2025, and the GST compensation has been stopped by the Union govt. Govt is expected to introduce the bill on lotteries in the monsoon session of assembly, beginning Aug 18. Himachal Pradesh had banned lotteries, both state-run and from outside the state, in 1999 under Sections 7, 8 & 9 of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998, during the tenure of chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. The lottery decision has not gone down well with opposition BJP. Former CM and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur criticised the move, saying: "Lotteries were prohibited because they ruined families, homes were auctioned, and people were driven to suicide." Lotteries are legal in 13 states — Punjab, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Assam. MSID:: 123044952 413 |

VMC probe into inflated fire dept purchases delayed

Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has formed a four-member preliminary inquiry committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the procurement of safety, rescue, and other equipment for the fire department. While the panel was initially expected to submit its report this week, officials said it may take more time. The civic body initiated the inquiry after reports surfaced about highly inflated rates for several items procured earlier this year from a Surat-based agency, for which the VMC had already made payments of Rs 3.81 crore. The purchases included 24 items ranging from emergency whistles and water bottles to inflatable rubber rescue boats and motors for such boats. The purchase order, issued in April, mentioned unusually high prices for several items such as whistles, water bottles, mosquito nets, and pocket knives. The glaring price discrepancies prompted the civic body to launch an internal inquiry. Sources said a third party managed the procurement, and the bills were reviewed by the audit department before payment was cleared. However, despite these checks, no clarifications were sought on the inflated rates. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like NRIs Living In Portugal Are Eligible For INR 2 Lakh Monthly Pension.
