Wisconsin hockey defenseman selected in first round of 2025 NHL draft

#6 IS HEADED TO THE 613 🤩Logan Hensler goes No. 23 to the @Senators!#NHLDraft | #Sens The Ottawa Senators selected Wisconsin men's hockey freshman defenseman Logan Hensler with the No. 23 pick of the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday at L.A. Live's Peacock Arena. With the selection, Hensler becomes the 19th ever UW men's hockey representative to hear his name called in the first round of the NHL draft. "I'm ecstatic," Hensler said after being drafted. "Great organization, and I'm pumped to get started with them. Long journey ahead, but I'm super excited it's with them. It's always been a dream of mine, and to be drafted by Ottawa is amazing. I'm grateful for the opportunity and excited to get started." At 6-foot-2, Hensler registered two goals and 10 assists for 12 total points in 32 appearances as a true freshman. As the fifth-youngest player in college hockey, Hensler's efforts in his sole season under Mike Hastings earned him a spot on the 2024-25 All-Big Ten Freshman Team. Prior to donning the scarlet and white, Henseler suited up for the U.S. National U18 Team in 2023-24 and accumulated four goals and 32 points in 61 games. The Woodbury, Minnesota, native also earned a gold medal while skating for the United States at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa - the city where he will play home games in the NHL. Hensler's first round selection also stretches Wisconsin's streak of at least one player hearing his name called in the NHL draft to 28 years. He, Luke Kunin (2016), Trent Frederic (2016), K'Andre Miller (2018), Alex Turcotte (2019), Cole Caufield (2019), Dylan Holloway (2020), Corson Ceulemans (2021) and Charlie Stramel (2023) are the most recent Badger draftees to go in the first round dating back to 2015. The standout will join a Senators squad that went 45-30-7 during the 2024-25 season, a campaign that ended with a 4-2 first-round series loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The playoff appearance marked the first postseason series for the franchise since the 2016-17 season and the first winning output in nearly a decade. Justin Bieber Shares Photos of Son Jack Sporting a Toronto Maple Leafs Jersey on a Family Vacation — and the Team Reacts

Justin Bieber's son Jack Blues wore a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey in several recent Instagram posts from the singer The Canadian musician is a longtime fan of the NHL team, who commented on one of the posts The photos of Jack, 10 months, come amid Justin's lakeside family vacation with his son and wife, Hailey BieberJustin Bieber's mini-me may not be able to walk yet, but he's already following in his dad's hockey-loving footsteps! After debuting a new Instagram username, the 'Love Yourself' singer, 31, shared a dozen posts on Friday, June 27, including several from his lakeside family vacation with wife Hailey Bieber and son Jack Blues. In some of the snaps, the musician revealed that the couple's 10-month-old already has a sporty side. In several different posts, the Canadian musician, who now goes by @lilbieber on Instagram, showed off Jack wearing a jersey for the Toronto Maple Leafs — his longtime team — from a series of different angles. Specifically, the little one repped Auston Matthews — a center and captain for the NHL team — with the baby-size jersey, which he paired with some baggy jeans and matching blue socks. Matthews acknowledged the support, commenting '💙,' on one of the singer's posts. The Maple Leafs also recognized the shout-out, writing, '💙💙💙,' in the comments of another carousel of photos of Jack. Another snap of the 10-month-old revealed that hockey is not the only sport the proud parents have introduced to Jack. In the photo, the little one sits next to a soccer ball in a field, wearing a blue and gray hoodie and looking away from the camera. Justin adorned the picture with a fairy emoji and captioned it, '🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️.' This is almost identical to Justin's captions for the other posts, and appears to be a nod to his viral moment telling paparazzi that he is "standing on business." He used the person standing emojis alongside every recent post he shared of Jack, which also included snaps of him smiling down at his son, who sat in a delivery box. Justin also shared a solo shot of Hailey, 28, and a photo of their son next to what appeared to be the Rhode founder's hands. In line with Hailey and Justin's ongoing decision to keep Jack's face off of social media, the father of one cropped all of the pictures of the jersey-wearing baby — or shared a snap of the back of his head — so his face was not visible. Justin and Hailey got married in September 2018. Six years later, in May 2024, they renewed their wedding vows in Hawaii and revealed that they were expecting their first child together. NHL announces Predators 9 picks for upcoming NHL Draft

NHL Draft week is upon us, and the Nashville Predators will be staying busy, owning nine picks in this year's draft. Monday, the NHL announced where the Predators will be selecting. Their first pick, which was earned in the NHL Draft lottery in May, will be fifth overall. It's the highest the Predators have selected since 2013 when they picked defenseman Seth Jones fourth overall. Advertisement The eight other picks are as follows: 23rd (first round), 26th (first round), 35th (second round), 55th (second round), 67th (third round), 131st (fifth round), 163rd (sixth round) and 182nd (sixth round). This is the most the Predators have picked in a draft since the 2023 Draft, which they hosted, where they had 11 picks. The three picks in the first round are the most in franchise history. Last year, Nashville had eight picks in the draft and selected center Yegor Surin with the 22nd overall pick. Surin was promoted from Yaroslavl Lokomotiv's junior team to their KHL team and won the Gagarin Cup. Jones, who was the Predators' last top-five pick, won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers this season. He spent two and a half seasons with the Predators before being traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2015-16 season. Advertisement He'd spend six seasons in Columbus before being traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2021. Jones was in Chicago for three and a half seasons before getting traded to the Panthers this year. Boston College center James Hagens is one of the popular names being thrown around as to who the Predators will select with their fifth overall pick. Hagens had 37 points in 37 games with the Golden Eagles and won the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship with Team USA, scoring nine points in seven games. Predators general manager Barry Trotz is expected to address the media ahead of Friday's draft on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The NHL Draft will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. EST from Los Angeles.
