Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Her Passing, The Ministry of Culture Designates 2025 as the Year of Umm Kulthum
The initiative will feature concerts, exhibitions, and cultural events celebrating her lasting influence.
The Cairo Opera House will host several performances, including a major concert at the Philharmonie de Paris, where the Arab Music Orchestra, led by Maestro Alaa Abdel Salam, will accompany singers Rehab Omar and Eman Abdel Ghany.
In Egypt, the opera house will organize two special concerts at the Arab Music Institute and introduce a nationwide talent competition, Discovering Umm Kulthum 2025, to find young vocalists who capture her unique style.
The General Authority for Cultural Palaces will launch the Umm Kulthum Festival for Music and Singing in February, beginning in her hometown, Tamay El Zahayra.
The festival will feature a documentary screening, a storytelling workshop, an art exhibition, and performances by the Mansoura Arab Music Ensemble and folk troupes.
At the Cairo International Book Fair, a special section will be dedicated to Umm Kulthum, showcasing musical performances and an exhibition of rare documents and photographs at the National Library and Archives.
Additionally, the Umm Kulthum Museum in Cairo will offer free entry throughout February, displaying her items, photographs, and rare audio recordings.
The Cultural Development Fund will organize further events in Cairo and Alexandria, including a documentary screening and discussion at the Naguib Mahfouz Museum, two concerts at the Umm Kulthum Museum, and a seminar in Alexandria.
Children's workshops at the Beit Al-Aini Children's Creativity Centre will introduce younger generations to her remarkable legacy.

In the Social Sciences category, the award was granted to: • Dr. Anas Gaafar, • Dr. Mohamed Sameh Amr, • Dr. Mona Haggag, and • Dr. Nevine Mossad. Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanou emphasized that these awards represent one of the highest forms of national recognition granted by the Egyptian state. They are a culmination of decades of creative excellence and intellectual contribution. He reaffirmed the state's ongoing support for creators and thinkers who have helped reinforce Egyptian cultural identity and promote values of diversity, openness, and awareness. The State Appreciation Awards are among Egypt's most prestigious honors, awarded to intellectuals and artists who have enriched the country's cultural and artistic heritage. Egypt's Ambassador to Lebanon Offers Condolences to Fairouz on the Death Ziad Rahbani
Rana Atef On Tuesday, Egypt's Ambassador to Beirut, Alaa Moussa, offered his condolences to the legendary singer Fairouz following the death of her son. In response to the Egyptian ambassador's condolences, Fairouz softly replied, 'I love Egypt.' Fairouz sat silently with her daughter, Rima, beside her. Her face revealed the deep sorrow and pain of losing her son. Lotfy Labib Admitted Again to ICU
Yara Sameh Veteran Egyptian actor Lotfy Labib was transferred again on Tuesday to the intensive care unit (ICU) in critical condition after suffering from another health scare. This was the veteran actor's second time this month to be hospitalised. On July 13, Labib was admitted to the ICU after suffering from a sudden health crisis. Born on August 18, 1947, Labib is an Egyptian stage, television, and film actor. The acclaimed actor has worked profusely, in many supporting but memorable roles, with over 200 film and television credits. Through many of his screen appearances, the veteran actor has performed admirably and has shown himself to be one of the strongest performers of his generation. On March 29, Labib announced his retirement from acting due to his health condition. "In my current health condition, if I get a role, I won't be able to play it because I prefer that my image remains as it was to the fans," he said. He made his final onscreen appearance in the 2024 film 'Ana W Ibn Khalti' ("Me and My Cousin"). Hanady Mehanna, Bayoumi Fouad, Sayed Ragab, Mimi Gamal, Sara Abdelrahman, Ali Loka, and Enaam Salousa round out the cast. Ahmed Saleh directed from a script by Doaa Abdel Wahab and Amr Abu Zeid.
