The 'next Messi,' aka 17-year-old wunderkind Lamine Yamal, got the Topps Now treatment this week with a card that features him alongside Travis Scott . Per usual, some lucky collectors have the potential to grab numbered parallels and one will end up with the 1/1 auto.
I am going on record and saying that I absolutely love when they have non-sports stars on baseball cards.
Or even cross-over cards, like Wemby juggling at Yankee stadium or Jayden Daniels, Juju Watkins and Angel Reese throwing out the first pitch.
Here are some of my favorite celeb-featured Topps cards:
Finally, I want you to think of a celebrity that you would absolutely be thrilled about pulling while opening a pack. Think really hard. You got a card? OK, keep thinking… is this your card ?
Again, I'm a big fan of the celebrity cards, whether they are First Pitch or Topps Now or in Allen & Ginter, however - and this is a big however - you should never consider a non-sport card auto or relic a 'hit' in a box. Especially a relic. But it feels like you're mostly setting up disappointment. And this is not Shin Lim slander, this goes for about 98% of the celebrities in the set.
Speaking of Yamal, he's been a hot riser in the hobby over the last month, with a 42% increase in sales month-over-month according to Alt .

Even Giannis Antetokounmpo is in the Yamal craze. Watch for Yamal sales on eBay. If the user name is 'IWantOutOfMilwaukee' then you might be selling to a future Hall of Famer.
The Caitlin Clark Gold Vinyl Prizm 1/1 has hit Alt auctions and this card is probably going to break all sorts of records. The timing is perfect, with the WNBA season just underway and Clark coming off a triple-double in the opening game against Chicago.
She very well might be the league's MVP in just her second season. And while this 6-figure-plus card likely won't beat the $366,000 price tag for the Gold Vinyl 1/1 Prizm Auto that sold at the end of March, it's probably going to become the second most expensive women's sports card ever.

Very cool.
Sponsor patches have officially reached the inside of baseball cards. This one's for the 'boy, cards have really gone too commercial for my taste' crowd. And the 'they'll put anything in cards' crowd as well.
How's this for a hot hand : We The Hobby pulled seven 1/1's in a single case of 2024 Clearly Donruss FOTL. Ever since the Backyard Breaks scandal people were starting to wonder where their juiced boxes were ending up, well, I guess we now know!
(Note: as you know I'm not a juiced-box-conspiracy-theorist. This is very fun to see, IMO).
People are paying over $100 for the 70th Anniversary commemorative Key to Disneyland which was recently launched. It's a super fun search-for-rewards offering that Disney debuted and I suppose that if you aren't intending on making your way there this summer then it makes sense to grab one on eBay, but paying $100+ seems a little excessive at this point. Right?
And finally, Bill Walton's personal collection of sports and music memorabilia is up for auction, including some incredible grails for any Grateful Dead fans. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit a charity.

Caitlin Clark's brother blames refs for her latest injury in deleted post

Caitlin Clark is injured once again, and the Fever star's brother is blaming the officiating. 'Make no mistake, this is on the reffing,' Caitlin's younger brother Colin wrote in a since-deleted post on X. Late in Tuesday night's game against the Sun at Boston's TD Garden, Clark appeared to hurt her right groin, marking her fourth injury in the last three months. Advertisement The 23-year-old has dealt with quad tightness in the preseason, a separate quad strain that kept her out five games in May and early June and then a left groin injury that preceded this most recent issue. 3 The Fever's Caitlin Clark after suffering an injury in Tuesday's 85-77 win over the Sun. AP Colin was perhaps alluding to one incident that unfolded in the third quarter Tuesday night, when his sister erupted in exasperation at referee Michael Price during a stoppage in play. Advertisement Clark was frustrated at a no-call, and she was having a seemingly normal conversation with Price until the referee said something and turned to walk away. The Iowa product appeared to yell, 'Are you f–ing kidding me,' and 'That's just rude. Grow up,' at Price. 3 Colin Clark's since-deleted post on X. @CClarkReport/X Or, more likely, Colin was referencing the pattern of no-calls that Clark has faced throughout this season, which has stirred up lots of debate in the WNBA world. Advertisement In the Fever's previous game, a 102-83 win over the Wings Sunday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, ESPN commentator Rebecca Lobo spoke out on the fouls defenders are able to get away with on Clark, saying: 'There's a grab. There's a hold. There's another grab. I mean…' before play-by-play man Ryan Ruocco chimed in and added, 'All of these are fouls.' 3 The Fever's Caitlin Clark speaks with a referee in Tuesday's 85-77 win over the Sun. Getty Images There was no obvious no-call on the play on which Clark got hurt Tuesday, but Colin seemed to be viewing the injury as a result of the wear-and-tear that comes with battling through significant contact on a game-to-game basis. Advertisement After Tuesday's game, which the Fever won 85-77, Fever coach Steph White told the Indianapolis Star that there was 'no update' on Clark's health. 'Just felt a little something in her groin, so we'll get it evaluated and see what happens,' White said. Clark's status for Wednesday's game against the Liberty and the WNBA All-Star Game is up in the air.

Protect Black Women: Shaq Defends Angel Reese, Slams Robert Griffin III's For Talking Sideways

Source: Daniel Bartel / Getty Former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal is heavily in his protect Black women bag, as he recently came to the defense of Chicago Sky star Angel Reese in the wake of the online racist attacks she received from former football player-turned-commentator Robert Griffin III. During a recent appearance on the Off The Record podcast, O'Neal made it very clear that he does not play when it comes to Reese, who he has been a mentor to since she was a college athlete. 'RG3? Tweet another monkey post about my girl Angel Reese and I'm going to punch you in your f—ing face,'O'Neal said on the July 15 episode. 'It's enough. I don't usually do stuff like this, but just stop it bro.' 'You got your job, you got your podcast, just leave my Angel Reese alone,' he warned. 'I'm the one calling her and telling her not to respond. F—king stop it — that's the last time. OK? Thank you.' 'It's a shame that all the stuff you did in your life, you're going to be remembered for your podcast. You're going to be remembered for your podcast. That should tell you you're not that f—king great,' O'Neal added. The issue began when Griffin fueled rumors regarding Reese 'hating' fellow WNBA star Caitlin Clark, after he claimed that someone from Reese's inner circle reached out to him and confirmed that Reese is jealous over the attention that Clark gets in comparison to her. Griffin also fueled racist rhetoric about the issue that involved Reese being depicted as a monkey online, which prompted him to take to social media to defend himself. 'I have been quiet on the Angel Reese front because she shared a video that aided in my wife, kids, family and friends receiving death threats, threats of physical harm to my family and friends and threats of sexual violence to my children on social media and beyond,' Griffin wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. 'That will never be okay with me,' his message continued. 'I never attacked her or her family when I stated and backed up with clear basketball evidence that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark. It's sports. Everybody won't like each other. … All that being said, Angel Reese or any Black man or woman should never be called or depicted as a Monkey. Ever.' As of now, Reese has not publicly responded to Griffin's comments, but O'Neal said that she definitely wants to, but he has been telling her behind the scenes to let him handle it.
