Drugs valued at Rs 2.84 cr seized in Manipur, two held
A police official said that the security forces arrested a drug smuggler, identified as Doukholet Hanghal (52), from his residence at Mongkot Khopi village under Churachandpur district on Friday night.
The security personnel, after a thorough search of his residence, recovered 870 grams of brown sugar valued at Rs 1.74 crore, 20 soap cases containing heroin weighing 260 grams valued at Rs 52 lakh. Rs 29.5 lakh, acquired by the individual from drug deals, two radio sets and a mobile phone were also recovered from the possessions of the detainee.
In another incident, the security personnel arrested a woman drug peddler identified as Chigenvung (46) from her residence at Tangnuam village in the same Churachandpur district on Friday night.
In all 25 soap cases containing brown sugar weighing 289 grams valued at around Rs 60 lakh, a cash amount of Rs 8 lakh and a mobile phone were recovered from her residence.
The police official said that the drugs were smuggled from Myanmar, as the hilly Churachandpur district shares an unfenced border with the neighbouring country.
Security forces also arrested a cadre identified as Jameson Ngangbam (21) of the banned outfit People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from Manipur's Kamjong district, and a pistol along with some ammunition were recovered from his possession.
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) of Mizoram and Cachar frontier seized 95 bags (1710 kg) of smuggled garlic from Bangladesh in the border area of Mizoram's Mamit district. The value of the contraband is Rs 2.73 lakh.
Adjoining Myanmar and Bangladesh share 1,643 km and 1,880 km, mostly unfenced border with northeastern states, respectively and serve as key transit points for various drugs, particularly heroin and methamphetamine tablets, entering India.

Illegal liquor worth Rs1.4L seized
Mhow: Nalcha police have recovered liquor worth Rs 1.48 lakh being transported illegally in Karkad Ghati area on Dhar Road late on Saturday night. Sub-inspector Man Singh Kharadi told TOI that a police team intercepted an SUV in front of Hanuman temple at Karkad Ghati, 3km from Nalcha, at about 11pm on Saturday. Taking advantage of the darkness, driver of the vehicle fled the spot leaving behind the four-wheeler on roadside. When the vehicle was checked the team found 28 boxes of beer along with seven boxes of whisky hidden inside it. The liquor was seized. Kharadi said that the driver, identified as 25-year-old Jitendra, a resident of Tirla in Dhar was booked under section 34(2) of the MP Excise Act.

Five of bike theft gang active in Indore, Dewas held
Indore: Lasudia police have busted a notorious gang of motorcycle thieves active in Indore and Dewas with the arrest of five people. Also, 34 stolen motorcycles worth Rs 22 lakh, were recovered from them. During the operation, police also seized equipment used to tamper with engine and chassis numbers, along with three motorcycles that were already altered with fake identification numbers. The gang members, who learned motorcycle theft techniques from a Kanjar settlement at Piplarawa in Dewas, initially stashed the stolen vehicles in abandoned buildings and isolated spots within the city before delivering them to buyers based on demand. The accused used tools such as grinders, gas lighters, chisels, and specialised dyes to erase original numbers and stamp. So far, 19 FIRs were linked to the recovered motorcycles. ACP Aditya Patel said a team led by inspector Taresh Soni began intelligence gathering after receiving alerts on July 13 about a gang operating in Lasudia area and across Indore using Kanjar-style methods of bike theft. On the same day, two gang members — Abhishek Malviya (22) and Kailash alias Golu (24) — were arrested near Scheme 136 with a stolen bike and an illegal knife. Both sustained minor injuries while trying to flee. During questioning, the duo revealed that they were trained in Piplarawa and were active in thefts over the past couple of years. They confessed to selling bikes on demand, especially to one Jenpal Singh Sendhav (39) of Talod village, who was also arrested for buying and reselling the stolen motorcycles in rural markets, Patel said. The ACP said later, two more accused — Rahul Malviya (23) and Anil Panwar (22)— both involved in the theft and modification of the bikes were arrested. Each of the accused played a specific role ranging from theft to tampering and selling. The massive haul includes vehicles registered in police cases across Lasudia, Vijay Nagar, Heera Nagar, Kanadia, Khajrana, Tilak Nagar, and several police stations in Dewas district.

Man gets two-year RI for sharing woman's mobile number on social media
Coimbatore: A bus driver of a private college was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment by the judicial magistrate court-IV in the city on Friday for sharing a woman's mobile number on social media. According to the Coimbatore city cybercrime police, M Shankara Moorthy, 37, of Punnai Sathankurichi in Thoothukudi district, worked as a private college bus driver in Coimbatore. On November 29, 2017, he was riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of the vehicle and hit another motorcycle belonging to a woman near Chinniyampalayam. The scooter of the victim, a resident of Somanur, was damaged in the accident. He agreed to bear the expenses for repairing the scooter and obtained her mobile number. Later, the woman received more than 30 phone calls from various mobile numbers. She lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police, who registered a case in 2018. According to police, Shankara Moorthy had posted the woman's mobile number on his Facebook page named 'Sathya Kutty'. They registered a case and arrested him. He was later remanded in judicial custody. Judicial magistrate court-IV magistrate Arunkumar on Friday awarded two years of rigorous imprisonment to Shankara Moorthy for harassing the woman and misusing technology. The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently and imposed a fine of Rs 16,000 on Shankara Moorthy.
