Penguins v. Flyers Preview: Lineups, Game Notes, And More
And they'll face their cross-state rivals yet again.
The Penguins will take on the Flyers in a rematch of Tuesday's dud, and they will look to split the season series. Since the 4 Nations Face-off break, the Penguins have been outscored 19-7, and they know they need to be a whole lot better in order to get the win Thursday.
And they'll also have to do it without forward Michael Bunting, who was placed on injured reserve earlier Thursday after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix. He is out indefinitely, and his gritty presence in the lineup will be missed.
'He's just a competitive guy that goes to the net-front,' head coach Mike Sullivan said. 'He plays in the battle areas. He makes it hard on our opponents in a number of different ways. He also has an uncanny ability to irritate people out there, and that helps the group. I think, when you have players like that, it drags you into the fight, and that's an important aspect of becoming a team and making sure we're invested emotionally in the game. And he's one of those guys.'

In other news, forward Boko Imama was activated from injured reserve and is available for the game, and forward Emil Bemstrom was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Forward Matt Nieto - placed on waivers Wednesday - cleared waivers and was re-assigned to Wilkes-Barre Scranton.
Alex Nedejlkovic will get his second consecutive start between the pipes for the Penguins. Nedeljkovic has allowed 11 goals in parts of five periods since the break.

The Flyers have won three straight games, including another against the Penguins on Feb. 8 just before the 4 Nations break. They are 26-26-7 on the season and sit just five points out of the second wild card spot.
The Penguins will also be celebrating former Penguin Max Talbot Thursday, as they are holding a bobblehead night in his honor. The bobblehead will commemorate Talbot's famous and momentum-shifting 'shushing the crowd' moment against Philadelphia in Game 6 of the 2009 Eastern Conference quarterfinal series between the two teams.
The Penguins went on to win that contest and, later, the Stanley Cup - when Talbot scored the only two goals in Game 7 against the Detroit Red Wings.

Boston Celtics Get Huge Jayson Tatum Injury Update
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Boston Celtics are entering what could be a throwaway season in the 2025-26 campaign. After Jayson Tatum went down with a torn Achilles in the second round of the NBA Playoffs, the team underwent major changes during the offseason. Jrue Holiday was traded away to the Portland Trail Blazers. Following that move, the Celtics traded Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks. Their main return in those two trades were Anfernee Simons and Georges Niang. Tatum seems to be progressing very well in his recovery from the Achilles tear. Read more: Lakers' Luka Doncic Sends Clear Warning to NBA After Extension As shared by Heavy NBA reporter Steve Bulpett, an NBA scout gave an update about Tatum. He seems to be well ahead of pace in his recovery. "He was moving really well. There might have been a slight limp or something, but the surprising thing to me is that he didn't have a boot for any of it," the scout said. "I'm no doctor, but I've seen guys coming back from Achilles' tears, and he looked way ahead. I was kind of shocked to see how well he was moving. I have no idea for what any of this means for when he can come back. I'm sure him and the Celtics' medical people have their program set up, and they'll make sure that he's where he needs to be when he does get back. But he looks great right now. Of course, he didn't do any running or even jogging, but he was in great shape and he had no trouble doing his part at the camp." Could there be a chance that Tatum returns to the court during the 2025-26 season? Fans will have to wait patiently to find out that answer. Read more: Pelicans' Zion Williamson Receives Major Future Update There is no point to rushing Tatum back. If he needs to miss the entire season to come back fully healthy with no risk of injuring the Achilles again, then that will be the path Boston takes. Tatum put together another big season during the 2024-25 season. In 72 games with the Celtics, he averaged 26.8 points per game to go along with 8.7 rebounds, six assists, and 1.1 steals, while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 34.3 percent from three-point distance. Expect to hear more updates about Tatum in the coming weeks and months. For now, this is great news for Boston that gives hope of a potential return quicker than expected. Potential Penguins' RFA Target Signs New Deal
The Toronto Maple Leafs agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Nick Robertson on Saturday. Robertson, a potential trade target for the Pittsburgh Penguins, signed a one-year, $1.825 million contract to avoid arbitration. He was the last arbitration case left among the restricted free agents who filed for it. Robertson was a potential trade target for the Penguins this offseason because of his contract situation. They may try to circle back around this time next year since he's scheduled to be a restricted free agent again. Robertson played in 69 games during the 2024-25 season, finishing with 15 goals and 22 points. He had an even better season in 2023-24, compiling 14 goals and 27 points in 56 games. The Penguins are trying to get younger as they navigate their rebuild, and Robertson would've been a solid fit for their bottom six if the Leafs hadn't signed him to a new contract.
