Police to secure Korangi Industrial Zone with modern surveillance

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East, Dr Farrukh Ali, has announced a comprehensive security upgrade for Korangi Industrial Area, pledging use of modern surveillance tools, trained personnel, and improved communication systems to protect the business community, as per a statement released on Thursday.
During a visit to the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Dr Ali told industrialists that police will install surveillance cameras, license plate scanners, facial recognition software, and central monitoring units under the Safe City Project. Human surveillance alone, he said, is not enough in a city the size of Karachi.
The DIG added that 590 new Assistant Sub-Inspectors will be deployed soon. An anti-encroachment operation is also underway along the National Highway to improve traffic flow and disrupt criminal hideouts.
KATI President Junaid Naqi urged more patrols and faster implementation of the Safe City Project, while Deputy Patron Zubair Chhaya demanded tougher action against criminal groups posing as labour bodies.
Dr Ali acknowledged rising street crime but noted major crimes have decreased citywide. He praised KATI's support and called for greater community-police collaboration.
Standing Committee Chairman Danish Khan highlighted growing issues like employee abductions, theft, and encroachments, calling for urgent action, especially removal of roadside eateries being used as criminal dens.

Three arrested for'gang-raping' woman
Police on Monday arrested three suspects who allegedly gang-raped a woman in the Bakot area of District Abbottabad last week. Abbottabad District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Tufail ordered the immediate arrest of the suspects after the incident was highlighted on social media, including Facebook and TikTok. Following the directive, Bakot police conducted a timely operation and arrested all three accused, identified as Ali, Haseeb, and Hamza. A case has been registered against them at Bakot police station under Sections 375A, 376, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and further investigation is underway. According to the FIR, police arrested the suspect who owned the house where he and his friends allegedly raped the woman. The FIR added that one of the suspects brought the woman to his friend's house in his car from Rawalpindi, where his friends raped her, one after the other. The homeowner confessed to committing the crime while also identifying his two friends. DPO Tufail has formed a special investigation team led by SP Muhammad Ishtiaq. The team includes DSP Galyat Imtiaz Khan, DSP Investigation Saeed Yadoon, SHOs of Bakot and Changla Gali, and expert investigators. The DPO instructed the team to conduct a transparent investigation and fulfil all legal requirements to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Gold plating solution stolen in bangle market heist

PHOTO: EXPRESS Multiple thefts occurred in a single night at Hyderabad's renowned Nishat Glass Bangles Market, where unidentified culprits broke into eight shops, escaping with gold plating solution, raw and finished stock, cash, and other valuables worth estimated to be over Rs2.5 million. The incident came to light early morning when a shopkeeper arrived and found the shutter raised and his shop looted. As others reached the market, it was revealed that eight shops had been targeted. In protest, the traders suspended business operations, closed their shops, and held a demonstration, accusing the perpetrators of having intimate knowledge of the bangles trade and the value of its materials. Among the stolen items was a high-value gold plating solution used in polishing bangles, made from 24-karat gold and stored in delicate three-inch glass bottles. Six such bottles were reported stolen - four from Majid Qureshi's shop and two from Nazim Qureshi's. Victimized shopkeepers included Majid Qureshi, Shah Rukh, Haris Siddiqui, Nazim, Shakeel, and Qasim. Despite the presence of two night guards employed for years at the market and on duty during the incident, the burglars gained entry. According to police sources, some shop locks were broken, while others were accessed by lifting shutters with a jack. Market sources said the area around the bangle market has become a hub for drug addicts, with complaints about drug use and sales during nighttime hours. Traders claimed that despite several written and verbal complaints, the police failed to conduct regular patrols or take preventative action. Following the thefts, the Glass Bangles Dealers Association held an emergency meeting attended by President Yamin Siddiqui, General Secretary Haji Nadeem Siddiqui, Joint Secretary Asghar, and others. It was decided that all shops would remain closed on Sunday in protest. During the demonstration, traders demanded the SSP Hyderabad take immediate notice, apprehend the culprits, and recover the stolen goods. They also urged the government to compensate for their losses and provide permanent security. In a statement posted on social media, association leaders said, "The bangle industry, once considered a cornerstone of Pakistan's economy, is now abandoned. Crushed by heavy taxation, weather damages, and now thefts, traders are being pushed to the wall."

‘True professional & gentleman': FBATI and KATI back KE CEO
KARACHI: The industrial associations here including Federal B Area Association of Trade & Industry (FBATI) and Korangi Association of Trade & Industry (KATI) backed K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi, commending him on his professionalism and leadership, after the Sindh Ombudsman ordered his removal over harassment allegations. KATI also highlighted that consistent and prolonged targeting of the CEO should be investigated under whose tenure there have been significant improvement in KE's performance, particularly with reductions in transmission and distribution losses. Moonis Alvi, in a series of tweets, described the decision as 'deeply distressing.' He affirmed his commitment to integrity, legal due process, and workplace dignity, stating he plans to appeal the verdict alongside his legal counsel.
