The couple faced charges in an indictment from the federal government for allegedly misspending nearly $900,000 in COVID-19 pandemic relief funds. They each pleaded guilty to defrauding customers in October 2024.
As part of the plea agreement, Jon and Carie Hallford each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

The Hallfords were charged with their alleged failure to bury or cremate the bodies of people, even though they received money for those services.
The federal indictment arrived after the investigation into the funeral home began in early October 2023, when neighbors reported a foul odor to the Fremont County Sheriff's Office. Investigators discovered at least 190 improperly stored bodies inside the building, which was demolished last year.
The couple was arrested in Oklahoma in November 2023.
Jon and Carie Hallford have pleaded guilty to hundreds of state charges in Colorado, including abuse of a corpse, forgery and money laundering. Jon Hallford is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 22.

Boy, 6, drowns after wandering away from family reunion at Belle Isle Park

A 6-year-old boy is dead after drowning in the Detroit River near Belle Isle Park on Saturday night, according to Michigan State Police. Multiple children, including the boy, were playing at Belle Isle Park during a family reunion. At one point, he wandered off from the other kids, police said. Family members started searching for the boy and called 911 after noticing he was missing, police said. The boy was found in the river near where the family reunion was taking place, around 30 minutes after he went missing. Officials with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Michigan State Police attempted life-saving measures before the boy was taken to the hospital, where he later died. "Our heart goes out to this little boy's family and also the first responders and community members on scene who did everything they could to try and save this child's life," MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said in a written statement on Sunday morning.

A deputy has died after being shot during a domestic disturbance call in Kansas City, Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — A sheriff's deputy has died after being shot multiple times while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Kansas City, Kansas, authorities say. Wyandotte County Deputy Elijah Ming, 34, and a Kansas City, Kansas, police officer were approaching a home at about 3:45 p.m. Saturday when a 38-year-old man inside opened fire, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation said. A woman who lived at the house told authorities she was concerned about her safety and was trying to move out and asked law enforcement to come, saying the man had threatened friends with a firearm when they tried to help her move, the KBI said. The man and other sheriff's deputies and police officers exchanged gunfire as officers tried to help Ming, a nine-year veteran of the sheriff's department. Ming died several hours later of his injuries after being taken to a hospital. The man barricaded himself in the home and also was shot, though he was reported in good condition after being taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, the KBI said. Police negotiated with him for about an hour before he surrendered and was taken into custody.
