ASAP Rocky says his new music is a reintroduction that reflects his evolution

Key Takeaways: Trending Power moves: 15 managers who shaped Hip Hop from the shadows 'Hustler's P.O.M.E.,' 'El Capo' and more: Ranking Jim Jones' solo albums 17 rap groups who could save the world with a reunion album ASAP Rocky's album Don't Be Dumb missed its August 2024 release, but he says the delay is more intentional than fans may have expected. In a new Apple Music interview, Rocky explains how fatherhood and personal growth are shaping his next era. His latest track, 'pray4dagang' featuring KayCyy, dropped on July 4, renewing excitement for Don't Be Dumb. The long-awaited ASAP Rocky album, Don't Be Dumb, was originally slated for August 2024, but the date came and went with no official drop. Still, the Harlem artist isn't rushing the process. In a new Apple Music interview, he explained why this next chapter in his music is about more than just satisfying demand — it's a reintroduction rooted in growth and intention. On Friday (July 4), Rocky reaffirmed he has plans to liberate long-awaited tracks, but doing so requires more intention now than ever before. 'I think the funny thing with me is just my journey and my career and my path and s**t is just the ability to perfect,' the Harlem emcee explained. 'Nobody's perfect, but I'm a perfectionist, and I think that every time that I [have] said everything that I needed to say, something else happens, something new happens, something else to talk about,' he added. His evolution as a Renaissance man with credits in film and respect in the fashion industry has significantly informed how he maneuvers. Fans will hear a familiar voice, but Rocky is certain that they will be meeting a new version. 'I'm just mainly concerned with... reintroducing myself. The guy I am now is not the guy I came in[to] this business as… We all know I'm a father now, you know. I'm a devoted father,' he mentioned. The 'D.M.B.' artist welcomed sons RZA and Riot in 2022 and 2023 with longtime partner Rihanna. In February, the couple revealed they are expecting a third child. 'I think me trying to make sure that, you know, my business is right, my life is right, my livelihood, all that, you know, is aligned, I think that's the only time that you can actually do something productive or do something substantial,' he continued. Moreover, Rocky made it clear that his new music isn't about surface-level flexes. 'I wanna evoke some type of emotion. If I'm out here telling y'all how pretty I am again, that's not talking about nothing… If I talk to you about how I f**ked your b**ch or I could take your b**ch again, that's not really talking [a]bout nothing. Everybody knows I love clothes, and you know I'm going to talk about that, but it's not talking about nothing when it's just like, 'Okay, what else?' Right?... I'm just one of those artists that, you know, we do things without compromise.' He dropped off the new track, 'pray4dagang,' featuring KayCyy, exclusively available on Apple Music today before it lands on other streaming platforms tomorrow (June 5). It's the first sample of an era that will surely add to Rocky's legacy as an artist striving to evolve in all areas of his life. Sean 'Diddy' Combs Was Met with a Standing Ovation from His Fellow Inmates After Court Verdict

Sean "Diddy" Combs received a standing ovation from his fellow inmates when he returned to prison after being acquitted of the most serious charges against him, according to the lead attorney on his defense team The music mogul was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering — charges that could have resulted in life in prison — on July 2 Combs was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in the split verdictSean "Diddy" Combs was greeted with a standing ovation by his fellow inmates upon returning to prison after receiving an acquittal for the most serious charges against him, according to one of his attorneys. On Wednesday, July 2, Combs, 55, was officially acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering — charges that could have led to life in prison had he been convicted. The rapper's lead attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told PEOPLE that Combs' fellow inmates viewed the acquittal as a sign of hope. 'They all said, 'We never get to see anyone who beats the government,' ' Agnifilo said. Agnifilo went on to describe his client's overall mental and emotional state, explaining that he typically speaks with Combs four or five times a day. 'He's doing okay,' Agnifilo told PEOPLE, adding that Combs 'realizes he has flaws like everyone else that he never worked on.' 'He burns hot in all matters. I think what he has come to see is that he has these flaws and there's no amount of fame and no amount of fortune that can erase them," the attorney continued. 'You can't cover them up.' While Combs was not convicted of the most serious charges against him, he was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in the split verdict. This means he could face up to 20 years in prison if he is sentenced to consecutive maximum prison terms. The mogul — who has been in jail since September 2024 — was denied bail by Judge Arun Subramanian during the July 2 court date and will therefore have to remain in custody at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center until his sentencing on Oct. 3. Over the course of the trial, which began in May, prosecutors called 34 witnesses over a total of 29 days of testimony. Among them was Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, Combs' ex, with whom he was in a relationship for 11 years. Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Sign up for for breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases. Prosecutors sought to prove that Ventura, 38, had been coerced into participating in "freak offs," which were elaborate sex performances with male sex workers. Combs' attorneys argued throughout the trial that the sexual encounters had been consensual. They introduced several exhibits, including text messages, into evidence intended to reinforce that argument. Though Combs was acquitted on the most serious counts against him, he still faces several dozen lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct, meaning his legal troubles are far from over. Mahershala Ali Says ‘Leave Me Out of it' When Asked About Marvel's ‘Blade' Reboot

Mahershala Ali is done talking about 'Blade.' While appearing on Vogue's 'Off the Cuff' alongside his 'Jurassic World Rebirth' co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, Ali dodged the question when Bailey asked how many Marvel films they've both starred in. More from Variety 'Sinners' Producer Says Costumes Were Purchased From Marvel's 'Blade' Reboot That 'Ended Up Not Shooting': They Had a 'Warehouse Full of Period-Appropriate Clothes' Box Office: 'Jurassic World Rebirth' Roars With $25.3 Million on Thursday 'Jurassic World Rebirth' Almost Killed Off [SPOILER], But Universal Execs Intervened: Director Gareth Edwards Details the Original Ending 'Leave me out of it,' Ali joked. 'That's a Scarlett question.' 'Well, there's one that we're very excited about,' Bailey quipped back, referencing Ali's long-delayed 'Balde' reboot. Although the feature comic book adaptation about the daywalking vampire hunter has been in production limbo for the past six years, Ali recently told Variety he remains ready to take on the titular role. 'Call Marvel,' Ali said at the New York premiere of 'Jurassic World Rebirth.' 'I'm ready. Let them know I'm ready.' First announced in 2019, 'Blade' has experienced a revolving door of actors and directors, with Marvel unable to get the film off the ground. Despite the ongoing issues, Marvel CEO Kevin Feige said at D23 Brazil 2024 that the comic book titan is 'committed' to bringing 'Blade' back to the big screen. 'We love the character. We love Mahershala's take on him,' Feige said. 'And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. You're all up to date on what's happening. But I can tell you that the character will indeed make it to the MCU.' It was recently revealed that Ryan Coolger's 'Sinners' featured costumes originally intended for 'Blade,' but went unused after the Marvel production hit a roadblock. '[Costume designer] Ruth Carter was working on the Blade movie that ended up not shooting,' 'Sinners' producer Sev Ohanian explained. 'At one point that movie was going to deal with, and she's talked about this before, but at one point that film was going to deal with the past around the same era as 'Sinners.' She happened to have a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothes, and it was like, 'Yo, we got to shoot this movie like tomorrow.' And Marvel was generous enough and kind enough to let us basically purchase it at price.'
