Oracle beats quarterly results estimates on cloud services demand, shares rise

Yahoo11-06-2025
(Reuters) -Oracle beat Wall Street estimates for fourth-quarter results on Wednesday, boosted by growing demand for its cloud offerings from companies deploying artificial intelligence, sending its shares up 7% after the bell.
The company's growth is largely nurtured by its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) solution and support for AI workloads. Analysts see the company becoming more of a cloud service provider that relies less on software growth.
"We expect our total cloud growth rate — applications plus infrastructure — will increase from 24% in fiscal year 2025 to over 40% in fiscal year 2026," said CEO Safra Catz.
Revenue for the quarter ended May 31 stood at $15.90 billion, compared with the analysts' average estimate of $15.59 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Quarterly revenue at Oracle's largest unit, cloud services and license support, grew 14% to $11.70 billion from last year.
Oracle has also been introducing AI assistants, advisers and agents. Its AI Agent Studio, announced in March, is designed to help customers and partners build their own customized AI agents.
Excluding items, the company earned $1.70 per share in the fourth quarter, compared with estimates of $1.64 apiece.

US drillers cut oil and gas rigs for 10th week in a row, Baker Hughes says

(Reuters) -U.S. energy firms this week cut the number of oil and natural gas rigs operating for a 10th week in a row for the first time since July 2020, energy services firm Baker Hughes said in its closely followed report on Thursday. The oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output, fell by eight to 539 in the week to July 3, the lowest since October 2021. Baker Hughes released the report a day earlier than usual on Thursday due to the U.S. July Fourth holiday on Friday. This week's decline puts the total rig count down 46 rigs, or 8% below this time last year, Baker Hughes said. Oil rigs fell by seven to 425 this week, their lowest since September 2021, while gas rigs fell by one to 108. The oil and gas rig count declined by about 5% in 2024 and 20% in 2023 as lower U.S. oil and gas prices over the past couple of years prompted energy firms to focus more on boosting shareholder returns and paying down debt rather than increasing output. Even though analysts forecast U.S. spot crude prices would decline for a third year in a row in 2025, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) projected crude output would rise from a record 13.2 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2024 to around 13.4 million bpd in 2025. On the gas side, the EIA projected an 84% increase in spot gas prices in 2025 would prompt producers to boost drilling activity this year after a 14% price drop in 2024 caused several energy firms to cut output for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic reduced demand for the fuel in 2020. [NGAS/POLL] The EIA projected gas output would rise to 105.9 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) in 2025, up from 103.2 bcfd in 2024 and a record 103.6 bcfd in 2023. Banco do Brasil boosts farm credit plan as investors question exposure

By Gabriel Araujo SAO PAULO (Reuters) -Brazilian state-run lender Banco do Brasil said on Thursday it would bump up the money it allocates to national farm credit in the 2025/26 season, as markets grow increasingly worried about its exposure to the sector. Banco do Brasil is typically a pillar of the country's "Plano Safra," a government program providing farmers with subsidized loans, which is seen as critical to boosting output in the South American agricultural powerhouse. The bank said in a statement it would allocate 230 billion reais ($42.41 billion) this season, up 2% on a yearly basis. The government had disclosed its program totaling 605.2 billion reais earlier this week. "The bank kept its leadership in financing for both family farming and agribusiness, posting growth across all parts of the government's Plano Safra," CEO Tarciana Medeiros said, referring to the previous season. The announcement comes as investors voice concern over the bank's agricultural footprint, after it reported a profit miss in the first quarter and pulled some full-year projections due to the worsening of its agribusiness credit book delinquency. Shares of the state-run lender have plunged nearly 25% since it published its first-quarter results in May, with analysts at XP and BTG Pactual downgrading their recommendation on the stock. Asset manager Legacy Capital revealed in a report on Wednesday that it has been holding a short position on Banco do Brasil for some time now, saying that the market "still underestimates risks stemming from its agribusiness loan book." Banco do Brasil's agribusiness portfolio stood at 406.2 billion reais at the end of the first quarter, up 9% year-on-year, with a delinquency rate of 3.04%. The lender's overall outlook for expansion of its agribusiness credit portfolio this year ranges from 5% to 9%. Banco do Brasil shares were up 1.5% on Thursday, in line with benchmark stock index Bovespa. Some farmers in Brazil - a top global supplier of grains, coffee, meat, cotton and sugar - have struggled in recent years with bad weather, high interest rates and elevated input costs, leading to an increase in the number of bankruptcy filings. Ferrari unveils new 'Amalfi' petrol coupe ahead of EV launch

By Giulio Piovaccari MILAN (Reuters) -Ferrari revealed its new Amalfi coupe on Tuesday as the luxury sportscar maker mixes petrol and hybrid models in its range while preparing for the launch of its first fully electric vehicle. The eight-cylinder, 3.85-litre Amalfi replaces and upgrades the successful 2019 Roma in the entry segment of Ferrari's range and comes just two months after the launch of the 296 Speciale hybrid car and its convertible version. Ferrari will begin unveiling its first EV in October this year in a three-stage process culminating in a world premiere next spring. However, a second EV model that would aim for wider sales is not expected before 2028, because of a substantial lack of demand for high-performance luxury EVs, sources have told Reuters. The Amalfi has similar dimensions to the Roma, differing in its exterior look from its predecessor mainly for its redesigned front. Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer Enrico Galliera said the Amalfi was a true Ferrari sportscar in terms of high performance, technology and driving pleasure, but it also had a "very elegant soul". "It allows for a different driving experience, less extreme but equally fun, it's suitable for a wide range of driving conditions," he said. The Amalfi is purely powered by an internal combustion engine which delivers 640 horsepower for a top speed of 320 kilometres per hour. It features a rear integrated active spoiler, contributing to the car's stability at high speed, the company said. Like the Roma, the Amalfi is a 2+ coupe, meaning it has two small rear seats. The starting price for the new model is set at 240,000 euros ($281,000), with first deliveries to clients scheduled in the first quarter of next year, starting from Europe. Deliveries to U.S. clients are expected to start three to six months later, at a higher price due to import tariffs. Orders for the Amalfi are being opened on Tuesday but Ferrari's dealers already received lots of expressions of interest from clients, Galliera said. The Roma coupe has gone out of production, while its retractable-top version, that was introduced in 2023, currently remains in Ferrari's range. ($1 = 0.8527 euros)
