'ABSOLUTE PANTS' 'One of the worst rides of all time' – Champion jockey gets a pasting from punters after Sandown shocker
CHAMPION Irish jockey and Juddmonte No1 Colin Keane got a pasting from punters after 'one of the worst rides of all time' at Sandown.
The usually ultra-reliable Keane suffered a stinker aboard the John & Thady Gosden-trained Publish at the Surrey track.

Backed into 6-4 from 2-1, a lot was expected from the exciting son of Kingman on his debut in a red-hot Tattersalls £40,000 EBF Novice Stakes over seven furlongs.
Breaking from stall two Keane looked to have the perfect chance to grab the inside running rail.
He opted to drop the horse in behind Godolphin's William Buick-ridden Key Of Magic as the field settled.
And it looked to have been the prudent play three furlongs from home as Keane and Publish settled in the leader's slipstream.

But things started looking dicey two furlongs out as the smooth-travelling Publish jostled for room.
Keane was forced to take pull, get going again, take a pull again… all the while waiting for a gap to appear on the inner.
But it never did.
In that time eventual winner Pacifica Pier, ridden by James Doyle had got first run on the outside.

Keane was forced to switch with half a furlong to go and flashed home in the second behind the 13-2 winner.
He looked the ultimate eyecatcher but, in truth, given even half a chance more it's likely Publish would have won.
Punters who were in on the Publish gamble couldn't believe their luck afterwards.
One joked 'bring back Kieran Shoemark' in reference to the Gosdens' former No1 jockey who lost his job after Field Of Gold's runner-up finish in the 2,000 Guineas.

To Keane's credit he is two-from-two on the Gosdens' other top class talent.
ITV Racing tipster Tom Collins labelled Keane's ride 'absolutely pants' while a third said: "How has Colin Keane just lost on Publish? One of the WORST rides of all time. Horse looks a star though, would have won so, so easy."
Punters will have to forgive and forget quickly if they want to go in on him again.
Publish has already been smashed into as short as 20-1 from 50s for next year's 2,000 Guineas.

Cameron Norrie breezes through to Wimbledon second week as Brit brushes aside Mattia Bellucci in straight sets
Norrie spoke about his love of Court 1 NOR BOTHER Cameron Norrie breezes through to Wimbledon second week as Brit brushes aside Mattia Bellucci in straight sets Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LAST man standing Cam Norrie will take the Union Jack into round four of Wimbledon after seeing off Italian Mattia Bellucci on Court One. Former British number one Norrie looked to be yesterday's man as he fell into the shadow of Jack Draper, who reached the semis at Flushing Meadows while his compatriot was at home nursing injuries. 3 Cameron Norrie is flying the flag for British's men's tennis Credit: Getty 3 Mattia Bellucci shocked Jiri Lehecka in the last round - but Norrie was too much Credit: AP But while Draper was a second round casualty, Norrie, 29, who reached the last four on the SW19 lawns in 2022, might be on course for a repeat as he gained revenge for his April defeat in Monaco with a hard-fought 7-6 6-4 6-3 win in two hours and 28 minutes. It was not, by any means, a vintage performance, especially in the opening stages. But after bouncing back from a horror start, when he was broken to love in his opening service game and faced three more break points at the start of his next, Norrie took charge. As the Court One fans began to return after digesting Sonay Kartal's earlier win as well as their lunch, the Brit dragged his way back into the set as he capitalised on an error-strewn Bellucci service game. READ MORE IN TENNIS WIM OR LOSE Wimbledon fans baffled by BBC scoreboard 'glitch' as they all notice same thing Norrie was never behind in the breaker, making the crucial mini-break with a stunning backhand pass from way behind his own baseline to nudge in front after 67 minutes. And when he broke the Italian in the opening game of the second, taking full toll of successive Bellucci double faults, it looked like things were only heading in one direction. Not at this Wimbledon, where you can take nothing for granted. Norrie, 40-0 up and set to be three games to the good, dropped his service only to rapidly break back as his baseline scrambling and heavy slice prompted errors from his opponent, with his fifth ace of the match ensuring there were no further costly mistakes. Norrie pounced in the third game, drilling a forehand past the stranded Italian after he refused to give up on a point he should never have won. There really was no way back and Bellucci lacked heart and hope before, after a stumble at 5-1, Norrie completed victory when his opponent overhit on his forehand once more. Norrie urged All England Club bosses to break protocol and not move his last 16 clash on Sunday to Centre Court. He said: 'It's impossible to say how much I love No 1 Court. 'When I saw the schedule I was really happy. 'Hopefully I can play my next match here - I don't know, maybe play all my matches here. It was good fun.' The last Brit man standing added: 'The fans were such a big factor - I want to thank you guys for that. 'I started a bit over-confident and stole the first set. I found a way to weather the storm. 'That was probably better for me and I played a good tie-break.' Asked about his lonely status on the men's side, Norrie insisted: 'I honestly don't care about that too much. 'I was just enjoying playing point for point in this amazing atmosphere back on this court. 'But apparently I am the last man standing. So I will take that.'

Diogo Jota funeral details as Liverpool star laid to rest after tragic death
Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota and his younger brother, Andre Silva, tragically lost their lives on Thursday after a car crash on the 1-52 highway near Zamora, in northern Spain The funerals of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva will take place at 10am on Saturday morning in Gondomar, a half-hour drive inland from the northern Portuguese city of Porto. On Friday afternoon the Liverpool forward's wife Rute and family members attended a private wake at Sao Cosme Chapel with priest Jose Manuel Macedo set to oversee the funeral at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar catholic church. It is unclear how private the service will be but Portugal's president Marcelo de Sousa has confirmed he will be among those in attendance. Father-of-three Diogo was killed in the early hours of Thursday morning along with his footballer brother Andre Silva when the Lamborghini Huracan they were travelling in burst into flames after a suspected tyre blowout on the A-52 highway near Zamora in north-west Spain. They were heading to the northern port city of Santander to catch a ferry to the UK after the Liverpool player and Portugal international was advised not to travel by plane following lung surgery. Jota began his footballing career at a club in Gondomar and is also thought to have met his wife there during their time as teenagers. READ MORE: Premier League star left 'speechless' after Diogo Jota attended his wedding five days ago Tributes have poured in since Thursday morning as former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, club legend Sir Kenny Dalglish and Reds boss Arne Slot all issued statements following the brothers' tragic death.. Team-mate Alexis Mac Allister wrote on Instagram: "I can't believe it. I will always remember your smiles, your anger, your intelligence, your companionship and everything that made you a person. It hurts a lot, we will miss you. Rest in peace dear Diogo." Dominik Szoboszlai added: "Words cannot describe how heartbroken and devastated we are... Your smile, your love for the game will never be forgotten. We will miss you so much, but you will stay with us forever, on and off the pitch. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Rest in peace, brother." Andy Robertson also paid a lengthy and powerful tribute. "The ones I'm thinking about most right now are the family. Their loss is too much to bear. I'm so sorry that they have lost two such precious souls - Diogo and Andre," Robertson began. "For the team and the club, we'll try to cope with this together… however long that takes. For me, I want to talk about my mate. My buddy. The bloke I loved and will miss like crazy. I could talk about him as a player for hours, but none of that feels like it matters right now. "It's the man. The person. He was such a good guy. The best. So genuine. Just normal and real. Full of love for the people he cared about. Full of fun. He was the most British foreign player I've ever met. We used to joke he was really Irish… I'd try to claim him as Scottish, obviously. I even called him Diogo MacJota. "We'd watch the darts together, enjoy the horse racing. Going to Cheltenham this season was a highlight - one of the best we had. The last time I saw him was the happiest day of his life – his wedding day. I want to remember his never-ceasing smile from that magical day. How much he was bursting with love for his wife and family. "I can't believe we're saying goodbye. It's too soon, and it hurts so much. But thank you for being in my life, mate - and for making it better. Love you, Diogo." Fans also descended on Anfield to pay their tributes to Jota with former Reds midfielder Jordan Henderson pictured at the stadium on Friday afternoon. Liverpool have opened both physical and digital books of condolence and encouraged supporters to pen their messages. Liverpool stores, museums and tours have been closed until Monday, while flags at Anfield have been lowered to half-mast. Club staff have been offered wellbeing support.

He was among the many footie stars to have paid their tributes to the champion footballer. Beto was joined by his teammate Youssef Chermiti and club legend Ian Snodin - honouring Jota's ability to bring together figures from across club rivalries. Meanwhile, touching pictures shared by the Liverpool Football Club showed an emotional Henderson mourning the loss of his former teammate outside the Anfield Stadium. Henderson and Jota played together at Liverpool between September 2020 and June 2023. It comes as Jota's grieving wife was consoled by relatives amid emotional scenes at his funeral chapel today. Rute Cardoso - who married the Liverpool ace just 11 days earlier - arrived at Sao Cosme Chapel in his home town of Gondomar near Porto, northern Portugal, early this morning. Rute, the 28-year-old mum of the striker's three young children, returned with her partner's body after his car smash death in Spain alongside his footballer brother Andre Silva, 25. Gondomar townsfolk gathered yesterday, sporting football shirts and carrying floral tributes as a shrine grew at a nearby sports club. Kop idol Jota, 28, died instantly when his hired acid green £210,000 Lamborghini supercar suffered a suspected tyre blowout and crashed in a fireball on the A52 highway in Zamora province, northern Spain. The brothers were killed instantly in the horror en route to the Spanish port city of Santander to catch a ferry to the UK after the Portugal star was urged not to travel by plane following lung surgery. Their distraught mother Isabel and their grandfather were also spotted at the chapel this morning. Tearful family members were seen hugging each other before walking together towards the chapel. What we know so far: The wake proper is set to start around 4pm, with Portugal's president Marcelo de Sousa among those arriving to pay respects. Crowds began gathering on Thursday night near the chapel - the Capela da Ressurreicao on the outskirts of Porto - and applauded as the brothers' coffins arrived at 11.30pm. A funeral ceremony will take place next door at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar at 10am on Saturday. It is unclear whether tomorrow's proceedings will be open to the public. The sad homecoming came less than 24 hours after the deaths - in keeping with Portuguese tradition to hold wakes and funerals promptly. Tributes have been flooding in since the horrific news, including from Jota's Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and current Reds boss Arne Slot.
