'Law and order concerns': Internet, SMS services suspended in Haryana's Nuh for 24 hours; authorities cite risk of misinformation, unrest
The directive, issued by the home department under Section 20 of the Telecommunications Act, 2023, and Rule 3 of the Telecommunications (Temporary Suspension of Services) Rules, 2024, comes after warnings from the additional director general of police (CID) and the deputy commissioner of Nuh. Officials flagged concerns about the spread of inflammatory content and rumours via social media that could incite violence or damage public and private property.
In a formal order, the state government stated that mobile internet (2G/3G/4G/5G/CDMA/GPRS), bulk SMS (excluding those related to banking and mobile recharge), and dongle services have been suspended. Voice calls, broadband internet, and corporate lease lines remain unaffected.

Kerala University vice-chancellor makes scathing attack on registrar
1 2 Thrissur/T'puram: Kerala University acting vice-chancellor Mohanan Kunnumal on Monday criticized registrar K S Anil Kumar, saying there was no legal basis to the latter's claims that the university syndicate withdrew his suspension. He was speaking to reporters after meeting the governor Rajendra Arlekar, who is also the chancellor of the university in Thrissur. "The syndicate has not met. The vice-chancellor should be chairing the syndicate meeting. Subsequently, the vice-chancellor should sign the order issued after the syndicate takes such a decision. Where is that order, who has signed it? There is no such order. The university statute makes it clear that whenever there is no syndicate, or senate or academic council, it is the vice-chancellor who is the syndicate, senate and academic council,'' Kunnumal said. The vice-chancellor dismissed the reports that about 2,500 degree certificates were pending as "blatant lies". He said only around 500 such files were pending. A large number of files, including degree certificates, are pending for the approval of the VC, who also ceased to attend his office in the university. SUCC said the very appointment of Kumar as the registrar was against university laws. As per the Kerala University statute 12 (14), deputation to the post of the university registrar should be given to central govt or state govt officials. "Kumar is a faculty member at a private college (Thiruvitamcore Devaswom Board College) under the university. He is continuing as the registrar based on a special order by the govt. This is against the university laws," the committee said. The service of a teacher from St Thomas College (a private college in Thrissur), who was appointed as registrar at Calicut University on deputation, was terminated following a quo warranto petition filed in the high court challenging the appointment, it pointed out. In Feb, the syndicate extended Kumar's appointment for four years. Although there were allegations of it being against the rules, all official members participated in the meeting to extend the appointment to protect the govt's special interest.

Tiger deaths at M.M. Hills: Govt suspends DCF Chakrapani
The State government has suspended Chakrapani Y., Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) M.M. Hills Wildlife Division for dereliction of duty and negligence in the case of the unnatural death of five tigers — a mother and her cubs — in the M.M. Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka on June 26. On July 4, Environment Minister Eshwar B. Khandre had ordered the suspension of Assistant Conservator of Forests Gajanana Hegde of M.M. Hills Wildlife Division, and Range Forest Officer-cum-Surveyor Madesh while recommending the suspension of Mr. Chakrapani who is an Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer for dereliction of duty and negligence in the above case. On June 30, the three officers were sent on compulsory leave until further notice. On Monday the State government issued an order suspending the IFS Officer following a high-level inquiry committee report on the death of the tiger and her cubs. 'In exercise of the powers under Rule 3(1) of the All India Service (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969, Chakarapani Y., IFS, DCF, MM Hills, Wildlife Division, Kollegal, is placed under suspension with immediate effect, pending inquiry. During the period of suspension, the officer shall be paid subsistence allowance in accordance with Rule 4 of the All India Service (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969.' the order stated. 'During the period of suspension, the officer shall not leave the headquarters under any circumstances without the written permission of the state government,' it added.
