Mumbai:
Lululemon Athletica
, a Canadian athletic apparel retailer known as the inventor of yoga pants, has partnered
Tata CLiQ
, to open its first store in India as well as e-commerce on their luxury and fashion platform in the second half of 2026.
'Bringing lululemon to India has been a part of our market expansion roadmap for a number of years and represents an exciting milestone in our international growth journey,' said André Maestrini, Executive Vice President of International at lululemon. 'As a brand rooted in wellbeing, we look forward to connecting with India's guests and communities and supporting their active lifestyles through incredible products and experiences.'
With a presence in more than 30 markets around the world, lululemon has a footprint across North America, EMEA, Asia Pacific, and China Mainland. In May last year, ET first reported on Lululemon's potential entry when its global team visited India to scout for locations where it could open stores.
About four years ago, the Canadian company opened a tech hub in Bengaluru, its first outside North America, to push global growth by using data science, machine learning, and full-stack cloud engineering to support merchandise planning and product and location information management.
Lululemon Athletica is a designer, distributor, and retailer of athletic apparel, footwear, and accessories. With a population of 1.4 billion, India is one of the largest and fastest-growing markets for companies as they look to cash in on the surging demand for fitness and athleisure wear.
Most global brands have been around for more than two decades in India and have grown by virtue of pushing their wares partnering cricket and other sporting activities. The newer entrants, however, have been positioning themselves as comfortable lifestyle and regular athletic wear brands.
In India, sales of nearly half a dozen leading sports brands have sprinted in the past few years, during the pandemic and since. Demand for fitness wear and sports equipment for disciplines other than cricket grew as people prioritised health with the onset of Covid-19.

SCR awaits A.P's share to resume Kovvur–Bhadrachalam rail project

Authorities of the South Central Railway (SCR) are awaiting the release of the Andhra Pradesh State government's cost share to expedite the Kovvur-Bhadrachalam railway line project in the State. Originally estimated at ₹1,445 crore, the project cost has increased to over ₹2,100 crore owing to the delays in execution. The project was proposed on a 50:50 cost share basis between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The State of Telangana has already released its full share and completed and commissioned the 56-kilometer-long railway line from Bhadrachalam to Sathupalli. Work in Andhra Pradesh is stalled. At a meeting in Hyderabad on July 15, SCR general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava told Rajamahendravaram MP D. Purandeswari, 'We are waiting for the release of the cost share by the Andhra Pradesh State government to proceed with the Kovvur-Bhadrachalam railway line project. The Telangana State had already released its due share'. The project is targeted to be completed and commissioned by April 2030. Tenders for modernisation Responding to an appeal by Ms. Purandeswari to speed up the ₹271 crore modernisation of the Rajahmundry railway station ahead of the Godavari Pushkarams-2027, Mr. Sanjay Kumar assured that tenders would be invited within a week. Ms. Purandeswari alleged that the tenders had not been invited, despite funds being released six months ago. Kovvur station She also raised the issue of reduced train halts at the Kovvur railway station. She said: 'As many as 18 trains, including those destined to Chennai and Tirupati via Kovvur, used to halt at Kovvur railway station. However, post-covid, only eight trains halt there. The major trains which no longer make stops at Kovvur include the Tirumala, Seshadri and Sarkar Express trains.' She urged the SCR to reconsider train halts at Kovvur. Mr. Sanjay Kumar was further urged to resume local train operations from Rajahmundry to Bhimavaram, Tanuku and Narsapuram which were suspended during COVID-19. In regards to the electrification of the Nidadavole railway line, Ms. Purandeswari said that ₹6 crore is still required to connect the line to the main power supply to complete the ₹150 crore line electrification project.

Why Starbucks wants its leaders in Seattle or Toronto and what it means for US remote work

Starbucks mandates relocation for corporate leaders as US remote work policies tighten. (AI Image) Starbucks has announced a significant change to its remote work policy for corporate employees, requiring many of its people leaders to be based in either Seattle or Toronto within 12 months. The Seattle-based company is increasing the number of days corporate employees must work in the office from three to four days a week starting early October, signalling a shift away from remote working arrangements. Brian Niccol, Starbucks chairman and CEO, addressed employees in a letter posted on Monday, stating the company's intention to reestablish its in-office culture. Niccol wrote, "We do our best work when we're together. We share ideas more effectively, creatively solve hard problems, and move much faster," as quoted by the Associated Press. The move comes amid wider changes in the US workplace, where several major employers have been calling employees back to company sites. Detailed requirements for corporate leaders Starbucks' new policy specifically requires all corporate "people leaders" to relocate to either Seattle or Toronto within the next year. This expands on a previous February mandate that only required vice presidents to move to these cities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Individual employees reporting to these leaders will not be required to relocate, but all future hiring and lateral moves will require employees to be based in one of these two locations. The company has approximately 16,000 corporate support employees worldwide, including roles such as coffee roasters and warehouse staff, though Starbucks spokeswoman Lori Torgerson did not provide exact figures for how many corporate employees currently work remotely or as "people leaders," as reported by the Associated Press. Niccol himself was initially exempt from relocation when he was hired last August, with Starbucks offering support for an office near his Newport Beach, California home and use of a corporate jet to commute to Seattle. However, he has since purchased a home in Seattle and regularly works from the company's headquarters, Torgerson added. Implications for US remote work trends The Starbucks decision reflects a broader trend in the US corporate sector, where companies including Amazon, AT&T, and the federal government have tightened remote work policies, often requiring employees to return to the office five days a week. These moves come as many workers, having grown accustomed to working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic, face a shift back to in-person work. Employees affected by the new Starbucks policy who choose not to relocate will be eligible for a one-time voluntary exit programme that includes a cash payment, the company confirmed. This signals a clear stance on prioritising in-office collaboration and presence, as Starbucks aims to foster faster decision-making and greater creativity within its teams. The company's updated remote work policy for corporate staff and relocation requirements for leaders may influence workplace norms across the US, highlighting ongoing debates about the future of work and the balance between remote flexibility and in-person collaboration.
