Bombers star desperate to take on Blues at MCG
Parish has endured a wretched run with injuries in recent seasons and is yet to play a senior game this year.
The 27-year-old has been hampered by ongoing back and calf issues in a difficult start to 2025.
But he has eased into a comeback in two VFL matches on limited minutes and feels ready to be thrust back into AFL action against the Blues at the MCG on Sunday night.
"It's obviously been a frustrating start to the year for myself but I've played the last couple of weeks and managed to get through," Parish said.
"I've been grateful and had real fun and enjoyment out there the last few weeks and now it's up to Scotty (coach Brad Scott).
"Hopefully he picks me for this weekend's clash and I can't wait to get back out there with the boys.
"There's no better place to play than the MCG with a full crowd there and I'm itching to get out there again."
Parish has played just 46 of a possible 78 games since his career-best 2021 season, and the Bombers have taken a conservative approach with the gun midfielder's rehabilitation.
"I've been knocking (on Scott's door) for the past couple of weeks and he's been itching to get me back out there," Parish said.
"But the medical guys have had a real plan in place to manage my minutes and give me the best opportunity to perform and stay out there injury-free for the rest of the year.
"We've stuck fat with that and I've been progressing really well and hopefully this week's the week to get back out there."
Parish has been ever-present on a growing Essendon injury list this year, with the Bombers (6-4) facing significant obstacles in their bid to snap the club's long finals win drought.
Sam Draper, Kyle Langford and Ben McKay are among the raft of key position players who have been sidelined.
"We've been really unlucky with injuries - and key injuries as well - in the last few years and especially this year," Parish said.
"We've had a lot of young guys step up and play their roles, which has been really exciting for the club.
"It's the next-man-up mentality at the moment and we're all trying to do it together."

'You're trying to make me cry,' AFL great Shane Crawford says to 7NEWS presenter Mike Amor. The pair are sitting down at the MCG — where the Brownlow medallist experienced the highest of highs — to discuss the lowest of lows. Crawford wants to open up about the suicide of his brother Justin — who died age 45 — three years ago this month. He's doing it to send a message. 'It's just like a wild storm that's just thrown into your face and you just don't know how to sort of move through it,' Crawford told 7NEWS. 'When I heard the news from my mother, and it took a full day for my mother to communicate with me,' he said. Justin was also an AFL player. He played first at the Sydney Swans, before joining his brother at Hawthorn. Over four seasons in the 1990s Justin played 46 games, kicking 32 goals. 'He adored his son and had such an unbelievable relationship,' Shane said. 'Just to know that he didn't feel worthy enough to be around for that ... umm, he was obviously well and truly over the cliff.' Crawford's decision to speak out coincides with the release of new data from health and life insurer AIA provided, exclusively to 7NEWS. 'We've got to try and stop it. We've got to be better at dealing with it and and trying to stop it before the worst can possibly happen,' Crawford said. The data shows a surge in mental health disability claims, up from just 15 per cent of all claims in 2012-14 to 23 per cent in 2024-25. 'It is absolutely indiscriminate and the mental health situation in Australia has been getting more and more urgent each year,' mental health expert Dr Jaime Lee told 7NEWS. AIA payments for mental health claims almost doubled from $280 million in 2023 to $557m last year. In the first five months of this year, 28 per cent of total and permanent disablement claims have been mental health related. 'That's what's really concerning is that when it's a life insurance claim, it's for disability as a result of mental health, which means that they're actually unable to work or perform their normal duties at work,' AIA CEO Damien Mu told 7NEWS. 'And so that's a real concern if we're saying one in four people are now claiming for that reason. Crawford is joining ironman Guy Leech and ultrarunner Sam Gash to raise money and awareness at the top of the famous heartbreak hill during Sydney's City to Surf fun run on Sunday, August 10. For every extra mile the trio runs on a treadmill at the iconic location, AIA will donate $300 to the Blackdog Institute. Essendon coach Brad Scott has played down rumours linking Sam Draper with a move to Brisbane, but concedes there are doubts whether the unrestricted free agent will stay. The Lions are expected to snare both Draper and West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen in what is set to be a bumper free agency period for the defending premiers. Draper is an unrestricted free agent, meaning Essendon have no power in halting a move away. Allen is a restricted free agent, but with West Coast set to receive pick No.2 as compensation for losing him, it is highly unlikely they will match Brisbane's bid. Essendon (6-12) have endured a season from hell, with a raft of injuries forcing them to field a record-equalling 13 debutants this year. Draper is among the walking wounded at the Bombers, with the star ruckman ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon in round six. The 26-year-old South Australian was also reportedly weighing up a switch to Adelaide, but that appears unlikely after the Crows re-signed ruckman Reilly O'Brien for a further three years. It leaves Brisbane in the box seat to land Draper - not that Scott has heard much about it. "That's news to me, and I'd like to think that I would know before most," Scott said on Wednesday. Essendon currently have 16 players on their injury list ahead of Saturday's clash with Sydney at the SCG. Jordan Ridley was the latest newcomer to that list, with the defender ruled out for four weeks after injuring his hamstring in last week's 93-point loss to the Western Bulldogs. It marks the third time Ridley has been cut down by a hamstring injury this year. "It's not a true recurrence of the previous injury, but it's another hamstring injury," Scott said. "It's incredibly frustrating for him and for us. We really feel for him. All we can do now is go back to the drawing board. "We're just determined to get him right. He's an important part of our long-term future, and we'll make whatever investment we need to get him right."
