The race for Florida Panthers veteran and pending free agent Brad Marchand is heating up, and a couple of insiders have offered two different options for who might end up landing the winger.

One of Marchand's suitors is the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have been linked to the veteran winger since the team was eliminated from contention in the second round of the playoffs.
Marchand is coming off a postseason where he posted 10 goals and 20 points in 23 games, helping the Florida Panthers secure the Stanley Cup for the second season in a row.
He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after finishing his eight-year, $49 million contract, one he signed back in 2017 while still with the Boston Bruins.
According to Nick Kypreos, appearing Friday on the "Leafs Morning Take" podcast, the Leafs are not only in the mix for the veteran winger but may already be leading the pack.

"There's no team on the planet right now that can satisfy the lost income he had probably on the last 3–4 years of his Boston Bruins deal, than the Toronto Maple Leafs," Kypreos said. He went as far as to suggest, 'I don't know how he doesn't end up as a Maple Leaf.'

But the Maple Leafs aren't alone and might face competition from an unexpected chaser.
Elliotte Friedman reported on Friday's episode of the "32 Thoughts" podcast that the Utah Mammoth, the NHL's newest franchise, might be interested in Marchand too, and willing to spend.
'Maybe the magic number, like, that's 24 million," Friedman speculated on the offer the Mammoth might submit to Marchand. "Maybe he gets more than that in another structure.'

According to Daily Faceoff, Marchand is projected to sign a two-year, $5.1 million contract. That valuation would fall way short of Friedman's suggestion of a $24 million deal spread over three or four years with annual cap hits ranging from $6-to-8 million.

USA vs. Costa Rica live tracker: Updates, score, highlights as USMNT battle Los Ticos in Gold Cup quarterfinal

The U.S. men's national team has won three straight at the Gold Cup, but few are convinced. The victories were narrow, the performances uneven, and now the tournament gets real. Next up for the Americans: Costa Rica on Sunday in Minneapolis in the first of three potential matches that could redefine a turbulent year. Mauricio Pochettino's makeshift squad brings youth, energy and a few standout performances from Malik Tillman, Patrick Agyemang and goalkeeper Matt Freese. But they also face familiar concerns with the World Cup less that a year away. Advertisement Costa Rica, meanwhile, has looked vulnerable but gritty under Miguel Herrera. The Ticos scraped through Group A and arrive without star striker Manfred Ugalde. Still, the wily squad won't make things easy. On paper, the U.S. should advance. But on the pitch, things don't always go according to plan. 🚨 Columbus closes the gap after narrow win over Philadelphia

Matchday 20 of the 2025 MLS season will be wrapped up this evening with just two fixtures remaining on the docket to close out another intriguing weekend of action across the United States and Canada. Here is how it all went down in Columbus as the Crew clashed with the Philadelphia Union ahead of the upcoming late fixture in Los Angeles as the Vancouver Whitecaps lock horns with LAFC. Farsi's strike ends Philly's unbeaten run Scorers: Farsi 45+2' Advertisement Eastern Conference powerhouse Columbus Crew banked a massive home result tonight after a narrow 1-0 win over pack-leading Philadelphia Union. Across what was a dull yet dominant opening 45 minutes of action at Field, the Crew took a justifiable 1-0 lead on the stroke of halftime after Mo Farsi's marauding run to the back post was picked out by Lassi Lappalainen for the Algerian to slot past Andre Blake. Thanks to a severe weather delay, a running theme across competitive football this summer, play resumed in Columbus as Wilfried Nancy's men remained largely on the front foot after crossing the hour mark. Despite a few changes, including introducing teenage talents Cavan Sullivan and Sal Olivas, Philly headmaster Bradley Carnell could not rewrite the script and find an equalizer before the full-time whistle. Advertisement With that, the Crew ended the Union's 11-match unbeaten run, while also closing the gap to the Eastern Conference leaders to just three points. Orlando Magic decline Mo Wagner and Caleb Houstan's player options

The Orlando Magic are declining the $11 million team option for Center Moritz Wagner and the $2.1 million option for guard Caleb Houstan, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. The Magic retain both players' Bird rights, meaning they can re-sign both as free agents. Advertisement Wagner suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in December and was limited to 30 games. Before the injury, Wagner was off to a career-best start to the season, averaging 12.9 points while shooting 56.2% from the field. The brother of Magic star Franz Wagner, Moritz Wagner, was selected with the 25th pick in the 2018 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. After three different stops in his first three seasons, he was waived toward the end of the 2020-21 season and picked up by Orlando. Houstan, 22, was selected in the second round of the 2022 draft by Orlando. He averaged 4.1 points in 13.6 minutes per game last season.
