Man dies of suspected heart attack after learning about teen son's death
Mr Lai and his 16-year-old son were cremated at the Fairy Park Crematorium in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, following a two-day wake at their home, China Press reported.
Mr Lai is survived by his parents, his Filipino wife and two young daughters.
His family said the teenage boy had gone out alone on his motorcycle to refuel at a petrol station less than 2km from their home near the Port Dickson beachfront.
He is believed to have lost control of the motorcycle and crashed near the station. He died from head injuries.
Upon receiving the news, Mr Lai rushed to the scene and saw his son's lifeless body.
After returning home to inform the family, he collapsed suddenly.
Mr Lai's wife, Leah Amour E. Basaca, attempted to resuscitate him with CPR.
An ambulance arrived 30 minutes later. Paramedics continued CPR while en route to Port Dickson Hospital, but Mr Lai was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Friends and relatives gathered to pay their last respects at the wake on Tuesday.
The teenager's schoolmates paid tribute to him by singing a song.
It is learnt that Mr Lai had tried for years to obtain Malaysian citizenship for his wife, but there was no progress.
"I hope our elected representatives can step in and help my daughter-in-law obtain Malaysian citizenship soon so that she can legally support the household and raise the children," Mr Lai's father said.

GOF seizes RM8.8mil worth of illicit vape devices in Kelantan
PASIR MAS: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized more than RM8.8 million worth of electronic cigarette devices during a special operation under Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan yesterday. GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the seizure was carried out by personnel from the Seventh Battalion, who inspected a suspicious lorry parked by the roadside in Kampung Gelang Mas at around 2pm. "Upon checking the vehicle, the team discovered several boxes wrapped in yellow plastic in the lorry's rear compartment. "Inside were 57,780 units of vape devices in various flavours. "These items are suspected to have failed to meet Malaysian standards under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Electronic Devices) Order," he said today. He added that such products were required to carry a certificate and the MS SIRIM mark before they could be sold on the local market. A 22-year-old lorry driver and his 40-year-old assistant were also arrested during the operation. "They are believed to have been delivering the contraband items for local distribution," he said, adding that the total value of the seizure included the lorry used to transport the goods. The case has been handed over to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) in Pasir Mas for further action. It is being investigated under Section 4(2) of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Electronic Devices) Order 2022, under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.

Malaysian nabbed in Thailand for allegedly laundering RM1.5b from illegal gambling site
KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian man has been arrested in Thailand for allegedly laundering over RM1.5 billion (11.5 billion baht) in funds tied to an illegal gambling site. The 26-year-old suspect was detained by Thai immigration authorities at Don Mueang International Airport on Wednesday morning upon arrival, based on an arrest warrant issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court on Dec 16 last year. The Bangkok Post reported that the man, whose identity was withheld, is facing multiple charges, including operating an unlicensed online gambling business, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and involvement in laundering activities. Investigators found that he owned a sports-related company which was allegedly used to channel and disguise illicit proceeds from the gambling platform. The company had reportedly served as a front over the past year to obscure the origins and flow of the funds. The suspect has since been handed over to Thailand's Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) as authorities continue to probe the wider financial network linked to Hydra888.
