HYDERABAD: A 19-year-old man allegedly killed his father at Gopanpally village on Tuesday after being reprimanded for losing Rs 6 lakh in betting and on a lavish lifestyle.
According to Gachibowli police, the victim, identified as Hanumanthu, worked as a mason, while the accused, Ravinder, had completed his Intermediate education.
Around Tuesday midnight, police received a petition from 25-year-old Kethavath Ramesh who claimed that at about 12.30 pm on Tuesday, he received a call from his nephew Ravinder, claiming that his father had stabbed himself and died.
Ramesh, accompanied by his relative Mohan and sister-in-law Jamalamma, rushed to the scene and found Hanumanthu lying in a pool of blood with a neck injury. The body was shifted to their native place in Wanaparthy district for funeral arrangements.
During the investigation, police said Ravinder confessed to killing his father. Hanumanthu had reportedly mortgaged land and raised `6 lakh, which Ravinder used for betting and personal expenses. After repeated reprimands, Ravinder allegedly took his father to an isolated location and stabbed him on Tuesday afternoon.

Shocked and confused, the woman followed the caller's instructions, stayed on a WhatsApp video call continuously, and was told not to speak to anyone. The fraudster sought her personal and bank account details, claiming her accounts needed to be verified. Over the next three days, the woman and her daughter visited multiple banks and transferred Rs 15 lakh in instalments into accounts shared by the caller. The caller warned her that her husband, who works in Qatar, could also face trouble if she failed to cooperate. The scam came to light when her son-in-law visited and noticed she was still on a call with the supposed police officer. He immediately disconnected the call and reported the incident to the cybercrime helpline 1930. A formal complaint was later filed at the local police station. Authorities are working to trace the phone number and bank accounts involved in the fraud.

A gra: A court in Muzaffarnagar on Friday sentenced a 40-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old girl at a village in the district five years ago. Court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. According to district govt counsel Rajeev Sharma, the crime happened in Nov 2020 when the minor girl was raped in an agri field by a man from the same village. Following a complaint by the survivor's father, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under Pocso Act. The accused was arrested and sent to jail. Weeks later, police submitted a chargesheet in the court.

1 2 Visakhapatnam: Vizag city police have resolved a major gold and diamond theft case, involving jewellery valued at over Rs 1.29 crore, with the arrest of the accused. The individual taken into custody has been identified as 49-year-old Mudapaka Jejee, a resident of Amalapuram in East Godavari district and a marketing executive with Krish Diamonds Showroom located at Banjara Hills in Hyderabad. Police have successfully recovered the entire stolen property from Jejee. Vizag city police chief Shanka Brata Bagchi stated that a complaint was lodged by Bongu Vamsi, a sales executive at Krish Diamonds Showroom, regarding missing jewellery in Vizag city. Following the complaint, Dwaraka police registered a case, conducted an investigation, and solved the incident. Both Vamsi and Jejee, colleagues at Krish Diamonds in Hyderabad, had travelled to Vizag city carrying 906 grams of gold and diamond jewellery from the showroom on July 3. They stayed at Sai Srinivas Residency in Vizag. As part of the showroom's marketing strategy, the duo visited jewellery shops across the city to showcase their collections and attract business orders, returning each day to their lodging with the jewellery. On the morning of July 4, Jejee informed Vamsi that he was going out for a walk. While Vamsi was asleep, Jejee absconded from the premises with the jewellery. In response to Vamsi's complaint, police scrutinised CCTV footage and identified Jejee as the perpetrator. A special police team was formed, leading to the arrest of the accused and recovery of the stolen valuables. Investigations revealed that Jejee committed the theft in an attempt to overcome financial distress.
