'Unfortunately…' – Enzo Maresca misleads with questions about defender's future

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca's decisions on tour, both in terms of who he took to the Club World Cup and who he is using out there, are all very interesting to consider as we try to extrapolate what his preferred group will be for next season. In some cases, people are probably reading into them too much. But this is all we have to go on so far, so it's natural to try and draw some conclusions. The fact that Trevoh Chalobah went to the USA this year after not going last year has led some to conclude he's finally proved his worth, and Maresca was asked in his press conference today whether that was the case. Enzo Maresca denies Chalobah departure Trevoh Chalobah leaves the pitch injured against Aston Villa. (Photo by) Advertisement 'No, in this moment, all the players that are here with us, I don't want to lose them,' the coach began, before then contradicting himself: 'But then we said many times that when the window is open, unfortunately, anything can happen. To buy a player or to sell a player. Trevoh came back with us in January. If we did the Champions League spot in the top four, it's also because of Trevoh. He helped us a lot. In this moment, he played also some games here. He is with us. We are happy with him. Then, as I said, unfortunately, when the window is open, anything can happen, but not only for Trevoh, but for the 25 players of the squad.' Maresca misleads to make Chalobah decision sound out of Chelsea's hands Maresca's repeated use of 'unfortunate' makes it sound like Chalobah could go without Chelsea's permission. Instead, it's obvious that if he leaves it will only be because they want to sell him. The sporting directors could yet consider the temptation of the 'pure profit' of selling an academy produced player for big money too good to turn down it seems, so matter how unpopular that decision would be with fans, and potentially Maresca too.

Barcelona deal blow to Manchester United with Marcus Rashford stance

Barcelona have been linked with signing Marcus Rashford this summer, with Manchester United prepare for the forward to leave again following his loan move to Aston Villa during the second half of last season. On that occasion, Barcelona tried to sign Rashford, but a deal was not possible due to their well-documented financial problems. But they are prepared to reignite talks with Man United during the summer. Barcelona want to sign Marcus Rashford this summer As reported by Sport, Barcelona are willing to sign Rashford, but they will only attempt to do so if Pau Victor leaves – which is expected to happen. And furthermore, there would need to be significant salary space freed up in order for the La Liga champions to be able to cover his wages. Image viaAdvertisement Barcelona are prioritising Nico Williams for the left wing position, and a deal for him to join from Athletic Club is expected to be finalised next week. Hansi Flick's attacking options would be complete by this, but Victor's departure would open the door for Rashford, who is only being considered as a loan signing. A deal may not be pursued until August or September Barcelona have already communicated this to Rashford's representatives, who have also been informed that a deal may not be sought until the final days of the summer transfer window, which closes in September. And this has appeared to be accepted by the player, who intends to reject all other offers while the option of moving to Catalonia remains on the table. Rashford's desperation to join Barcelona has been underlined further by his intention to cut his wages in for the Catalans to be able to fit his salary into the cap established by La Liga. But for now, he will need to wait to find out whether his dream move can come to fruition.

2026 4-star WR and Texas A&M commit has shut down his recruitment

Texas A&M's future wide receiver corps, outside of one 2026 five-star prospect who is set to commit early next month, is set in stone, as 2026 four-star wideout Madden Williams has reportedly shut down his recruitment after his official visit to College Station last weekend, joining four-star wide receiver commits Aaron Gregory and Mike Brown. Williams, who recently signed an NIL-based deal with Adidas ahead of his senior season, is one of the rising stars in the Aggies' 2026 cycle, possessing elite route-running skills and steadily improving as a consistent separator in coverage, utilizing his size. Williams was one of the early commitments in the class, announcing his pledge back in December, so credit to coach Mike Elko, OC Collin Klein, and WR coach Holmon Wiggins for keeping him in house. Texas A&M's California recruiting pipeline under Elko is similar to that of the former head coach Jimbo Fisher, who dominated Florida during his six-year tenure. Williams will enter his senior season at St. John Bosco, one of the elite football programs in the Golden State, and Williams is on track to best his 2024 stats after recording 50 receptions for 851 yards and 13 touchdowns during his junior campaign. So far, Mike Elko is on track to have nearly every one of his 21 2026 commitments shut down their recruitments before Early Signing Day on December 4, further proving that the program is in excellent hands from a recruiting and development standpoint. According to 247Sports, Williams is currently positioned as the 39th-ranked wide receiver prospect and the 27th-ranked prospect in California.
