The pair ended up having an intense conversation, prompting Oliveira to take off his glasses
Georgian-born Spaniard Topuria will look to become only the tenth fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes.
Fan favourite Oliveira, meanwhile, will look to reclaim the belt he lost on the scales ahead of his clash with Justin Gaethje in May 2022.
The pair had an unexpected run-in at the UFC Performance Institute on Wednesday, crossing paths at the sauna.
But they got a better chance to size up one another after the pre-fight press conference at the T-Mobile Arena early on Friday morning.

The duo stared intensely in one another's eyes moments after shaking hands.
An intense conversation ensued, so much so that Oliveira took off his glasses as Topuria spoke.
The undefeated Topuria claimed and defended the featherweight title, which he's since relinquished, last year by gunning down MMA legends Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway.
And he plans to become a two-weight world champion in equally as devastating fashion.
He said of the pair's Sin City showdown: "Charles is a great fighter.

Araujo vs Cortez - Round One Chants of "let's go Tracy" ring throughout the arena before Cortez grounds Arajuo with a takedown with just 30 seconds on the clock. Araujo manages to reverse position and press Cortez against the fence. She's taken the back of Cortez, but Cortez is staying calm and fighting well. A huge cheer erupts as Cortez manages to shake Araujo off and end up in her guard. Cortez forces a brief separation and lands two hard punches before diving into half guard. Cortez looks for a guillotine, but it's not quite there for her and she gives it up. Cortez cinches up another guillotine with just seconds of the round remaining. This is much, much tighter. Araujo gets saved by the bell. Dominant round in the books for Cortez Chisanga's scorecard: 10-9 Cortez

THE UFC 317 main event is ON NOW as Ilia Topuria faces Charles Oliveira on a mammoth card in Las Vegas! At the top of the bill, two former champions, Topuria and Oliveira, will go head-to-head for the vacant lightweight title. The undefeated El Matador is looking to become the UFC 's TENTH two-division champion, 15 months after claiming the featherweight title, which he's since relinquished. Also on the card, flyweight champ Alexandre Pantoja will put his belt on the line against Kai Kara-France. just now By Chisanga Malata Co-main event time! The flyweight title is about to be up for grabs. Will dominant champion Alexandre Pantoja be able to retain the strap for a fourth straight time? Or will Kai Kara-France end the Brazilian's dominant reign? We'll soon find out. 7 minutes ago By Chisanga Malata Van wins! Joshua Van edges an absolute classic with Brandon Royval via unanimous decision. The judges turned in 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 scorecards. An incredible fight, arguably the best in flyweight history. 14 minutes ago By Chisanga Malata Royval vs Van – Round Three Both men are battling hard to operate at their desired range and are having success. Van's shots, however, are seemingly the more effective punches. Remarkably, neither man has any serious swelling or bleeding on their face. This is an absolute dog fight and the crowd are losing it. The horn goes and the arena erupts. What a fight! 20 minutes ago By Chisanga Malata Royval vs Van – Round Two Having tasted Van's power late in the first, Royval has gone back to trying to operate at a distance. But Van isn't giving him any breathing room and is crowding him at any opportunity he gets. Royval's chin is taking a pasting and is somehow still holding up. Royval is having more success with the jab as he sticks and moves but Van is doing a good job of starting in his ideal range. 28 minutes ago By Chisanga Malata Royval vs Van - Round One They touch gloves and they're off. Royval is the taller of the pair and is already looking to utilise his long-range strikes. Van needs to get on the inside if he's to do any damage, but is struggling to do so. But he lands a heavy counter left hook as Royal closes the distance. Royval is starting to play into Van's game here and is getting tagged inside boxing range. And he gets dropped by a beautiful counter left with just over a minute and a half to go. Royval recovers and goes back to hunting down Van before the horn goes. 35 minutes ago By Chisanga Malata Super-fly flyweights on deck We return to the men's flyweight division for a pivotal bout between the surging Joshua Van and former title challenger Brand Royval. Dana White all but confirmed that the winner of this will get the next title shot. Massive, massive stakes in this bout. 47 minutes ago By Chisanga Malata Dariush wins! Beneil Dariush gets the job done, beating Renato Moicano via unanimous decision. A massive win for Dariush, who is now back in the winner's circle. 50 minutes ago By Chisanga Malata Moicano vs Dariush – Round Three Some brilliant scrambles follow a successful takedown from Dariush. But they return to the feet just after the two-minute mark and go back to counter boxing. Dariush is having more success with his left hand than I envisaged. The fight briefly hits the mat with just over a minute and a half of the round remaining. The horn goes after a failed takedown attempt from Moicano. I have Dariush winning this by two rounds to one. Chisanga's scorecard: 29-28 Dariush 55 minutes ago By Chisanga Malata Moicano vs Dariush - Round Two Dariush stifles a takedown attempt from Moicano shortly after the restart. And he's now out grappling Moicano against the fence, something I didn't expect to see. Fans aren't happy with Moicano being kept on the ground with relentless top pressure from Dariush, who has well and truly blown off the cobwebs following that knockdown late in the first. Chisanga's scorecard: 19-19 Today, 03:58 By Chisanga Malata Dariush vs Moicano - Round One Moicano takes the centre of the octagon and puts southpaw Dariush on the back foot. Dariush chips away at the legs of Moicano with two hard low kicks. And a third echoes throughout the arena. Moicano's first attempt to ground the fight is stuffed but he lands a good knee to the body after the unsuccessful shot. Moicano gets dropped by a hard leg kick but returns to his feet, albeit compromised. Moicano is getting the better of the boxing exchanges, but none of his shots have hurt Dariush yet. Just as I say that, Dariush gets dropped and is scrambling to fend off Moicano's attempts to take the back. Defend it he does and he manages to make it back to his feet before seeing off another onslaught from 'Money' just before the horn. Chisanga's scorecard: 10-9 Moicano Today, 03:49 By Chisanga Malata Lightweights on show We move to our first of two lightweight offerings tonight. Fan favourite Renato 'Money' Moicano is about to take on Beneil Dariush. The pair were, of course, set to throw down at UFC 311 in January but Moicano got the call to fight former champ Islam Makhachev on short notice. Today, 03:43 By Chisanga Malata Talbott wins! Payton Talbott returns to the win column courtesy of a 29-28 scorecards. Incredible improvement from the youngster, in particular with his defensive grappling. He's well and truly back on track, much to the delight of fans inside the T-Mobile Arena. Today, 03:38 By Chisanga Malata Talbott vs Lima – Round Three Talbott continues to showcase brilliant counter wrestling between striking exchanges. He's really come on leaps and bounds over the last few months. Talbott has Lima on the back foot and ripping in beautiful shots to the body. And he nearly took Lima's head off with a beautiful spinning heel kick Lima took it well, though. But is now on his back fending off a barrage of strikes. The horn goes. That's a close fight, IMO. But I give it to Talbott by two rounds to one. Chisanga's scorecard: 29-28 Talbott Today, 03:33 By Chisanga Malata Talbott vs Lima – Round Two These boys, Lima in particular, are throwing some serious, serious heat. Talbott wisely takes the fight to the ground just before the halfway point of the stanza. But just as I praise him for doing so, he lets Lima back to his feet. And he nearly gets his clock cleaned by a spinning back fist. And he nearly gets his clock cleaned by a spinning back fist. Talbott shows off yet more brilliant defensive grappling just seconds before the horn. Today, 03:25 By Chisanga Malata Talbott vs Lima - Round One An incredible round full of entertaining scrambles on the ground. Talbott is hanging in much better on the ground than he did when he fought Raoni Barcelos a few months ago. But Lima is a real, real threat. They return to the feet with just over 20 seconds left to go and Talbott lands a nice elbow in the clinch before the horn goes. Today, 03:17 By Chisanga Malata Bantamweight bust-up We move to the men's bantamweight division for a showdown between Payton Talbott and Felipe Lima. This is a big one for prospect Talbott, who was dominanted by Raoni Barcelos in his last outing. Let's see if he can return to the win column. Not long now until the big one between Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira. Today, 02:57 By Chisanga Malata Hermansson helped backstage Jack Hermansson had to be helped backstage by security and the cageside doctor after that knockout loss to Gregory Rodrigues. Gregory Rodrigues has just brutally KNOCKED OUT Jack Hermansson with a huge uppercut and the unnecessary of follow-up shots. Hermansson was, worryingly, out for several minutes before coming to. That was scary, to say the least.
