Sean 'Diddy' Combs has formally requested release from federal custody, months before his scheduled sentencing on October 3.
In a motion filed on Tuesday, July 29, Combs' legal team is seeking a $50 million bond to secure his release until sentencing, arguing that the music mogul poses neither a flight risk nor a danger to the public.
The filing proposes several conditions for his release, including home confinement at his Miami mansion, strict travel restrictions and participation in mental health and substance abuse treatment programmes.
His attorneys emphasised that Diddy is willing to surrender his passport, remain under supervision and only travel within Florida and New York for court-related matters.
According to the motion, Combs' lead attorney Marc Agnifilo argued that the conditions inside the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn - where Diddy has been held since his September 2024 arrest - are 'dangerous and inhumane.'
Agnifilo also noted that many individuals convicted of comparable offences are typically released before sentencing.
'Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct,' the attorney stated. 'In fact, he may be the only person currently incarcerated in the US for being a john - and certainly the only one jailed for hiring adult male escorts for himself and his partner.'
Diddy was acquitted earlier this month of more serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering, but was found guilty on two counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting individuals across state lines for illicit purposes.
The convictions relate to his use of private transportation services to fly adult male sex workers for personal engagements.
The defence contends that Combs' actions, including his widely publicised 'freak-off' parties and unconventional relationships, have been mischaracterised. They argue that the behaviour in question took place between consenting adults and should not be grounds for incarceration.
In addition, Combs' team claims that he has been subjected to threats of violence and severe mental distress during his time in federal custody.
They also cited his participation in a domestic violence rehabilitation programme, which he joined voluntarily before his arrest, as evidence of his commitment to personal reform.
The $50 million bond would be secured against Diddy's multimillion-dollar Miami property, with electronic monitoring and other supervision mechanisms in place if the court grants the request. A ruling on the motion is pending.
As news of the filing broke, social media exploded with reactions from users voicing their opinions on the case.
Some believe Diddy is receiving preferential treatment, while others are surprised he has remained in custody this long.
Twitter user @Azeez4901 vented frustration: 'If he gets released, all pedophiles and serial killers should be released. They also have a right.'
Another user, @CalistaCapulet, added: 'He is a total flight risk.'
Some questioned why he hadn't been released earlier. @Invisime101 tweeted: 'I'm actually surprised he is not out already. So I presume more jail time will be added. I do hope Cassie, however, goes to the criminal court.'
Others took a hard stance against the potential bail. 'No one is above the law. Equal rights should apply in this case. A big NO!' wrote @realthoughs23.
Despite mounting public pressure and scrutiny, Diddy's legal team remains adamant that the charges he faces do not justify continued detention.
His lawyers continue to frame the situation as a case of overreach, where consensual behaviour is being punished as criminal activity.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to Combs' celebrity status and the broader conversations it has sparked around justice, consent and the treatment of high-profile defendants.
As the October sentencing date approaches, the court's decision on bail may set the tone for what lies ahead for one of the music industry's most controversial figures.

Donald Trump considering a pardon for Diddy

It appears that President Donald Trump may be considering giving rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs a 'get out of jail free card.' These reports follow two months after the rapper was found guilty of two counts of prostitution. Despite the seemingly good news for the rapper, the pardoning may not be set in stone just yet. On 17 May 2024, CNN released footage showing Diddy physically assaulting singer Cassie in a hotel hallway in Los Angeles. Just two days later, Diddy posted an apology video, but the damage had already been done. Public perception had shifted and the seriousness of the incident was widely acknowledged. On 16 September 2024, Diddy was arrested at his hotel in Manhattan following a grand jury indictment. The next day, he faced court charges for sex-trafficking, racketeering, and transportation of prostitution. By November of the same year, over 100 additional assault allegations had surfaced against him. The trial commenced on 12 May 2025, with Diddy pleading not guilty to the charges. By 2 July 2025, the verdict was in: he was acquitted of the more severe charges of racketeering and sex-trafficking. But, he was found guilty on two counts related to transportation for prostitution. The trail continues as everyone awaits the sentencing details. May 2025 was the first time President Trump hinted at the possibility of pardoning Diddy during the rapper's sex-trafficking trial. While speaking at the Oval Office, President Trump said the following: I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don't like me, it wouldn't have any impact on me. The final part of the statement appeared important to add seeing as the president was unsure of whether his relationship with the rapper was still on good terms following his first election. Recent reports, however, suggest that President Trump may be staying true to his word as he considers pardoning Diddy. An administration source told Deadline that the president is 'seriously considering' pardoning the rapper. It's still unclear which way President Trump is leaning, but we can expect to find out at the end of Diddy's trial later this year. Newcastle police warn residents against online scam traps

Local police are warning residents to 'take extra precautions' and be cautious with their money. According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office, many people are still falling into traps set by scammers. 'These unsuspecting victims are defrauded of their hard-earned money,' explained Arumugam. She added that members of the public were duped into depositing large sums of money into deals that were later discovered to be fraudulent. 'These deals never materialized, and victims end up losing a significant amount of money,' she said. She continued: 'On social media platforms such as Facebook and the Internet, perpetrators frequently post enticing advertisements for the sale of cars, household appliances, cell phones, pets, generators, and other valuable items.' These suspects would then persuade their targets, who are in desperate need of the aforementioned items, that they can be obtained for a ridiculously low price. 'Vulnerable victims then engage in some form of communication with these faceless sellers, who persuade them to make an urgent cash deposit. This is done either via EFT or deposit at the bank, before the required items were delivered,' she confirmed. Following the fraudulent transaction, the suspect would confirm receiving the money and, at times, demand more cash before disappearing into thin air without fulfilling the promise. Despite numerous warnings, these types of trends continue to occur. 'When making purchases, the public is once again urged to go to reputable businesses, shops, or car dealerships that operate within the bounds of the law.' Members of the community are also advised to conduct proper research, rather than relying on advertisements displayed on social media, as most of the information is misleading. 'The general public should also be wary of quickly depositing or transferring cash to unknown people without proper verification,' Arumugam concluded.
