General Motors's UK Designers Imagine the Future of the Corvette
General Motors has launched a new advanced design studio in the United Kingdom, which has created this streamlined concept car.
The Corvette concept pairs a low-slung body with classic design cues like a split rear windshield.
This concept will be one of several Corvette concepts being revealed this year, along with a GMC concept from the UK studio.
Just like bald eagles, a mid-afternoon baseball game in the middle of summer, and a supersized Coca-Cola from McDonald's, the Chevrolet Corvette is an American staple. But what if the iconic sports car was designed in the United Kingdom instead? General Motors just opened a new advanced design studio outside Birmingham, England, and to christen the new space, the automaker revealed a futuristic Corvette design study from its U.K.-based team.
The new facility, in Royal Leamington Spa, launches as General Motors gets ready to start selling the Corvette in the U.K. and the rest of Europe. The studio will be led by Julian Thomson, who penned the first-generation Lotus Elise, styled the Land Rover LRX concept, which previewed the Evoque, and oversaw Jaguar's advanced design department until 2021. The new 24,584-square-foot space will house over 30 designers for the advanced design team, which typically gazes five to 10 years into the future of automotive innovation.
To that end, the British team cooked up a vision of a futuristic Corvette. GM says there is no production intent behind this concept, with the designers instead focusing on reimagining what the Corvette will look like in the coming decades. The concept is clearly derived from the modern era of the Corvette, with its rakish, mid-engined proportions, but makes a clear nod to the Corvette's legendary history with its split windshields at both the front and rear.
The bodywork is clean, divided into a distinct, smooth white upper section and a black lower portion where cavernous intakes channel air through underbody tunnels to create downforce sans gaudy wings. GM hinted that the concept is electric, claiming that the battery is integrated into the vehicle's structure.
The body is made via additive manufacturing, another way of saying 3-D printing, and there are dramatic gullwing doors. Overall, the concept stretches 183.8 inches long, about the same size as the current C8 Corvette, but measures nearly 10 inches wider and around eight inches shorter from top to bottom. The cabin is minimalist, with sleek chairs molded into the structure of the car and a rectangular, yoke-style steering wheel.
The Corvette concept seen here is just the start. GM says this concept is part of a global design project that will involve studios around the world and will be joined by more Corvette concepts later in 2025.
The company also teased a GMC concept that will be shown later this year; it was designed in collaboration with the GMC-specific team in Detroit. The GMC concept appears to show a boxy design, with rectilinear forms and a three-line motif in the headlights and taillights.

Gas prices are expected to fall: ‘It's going to be the cheapest summer since 2021,' one expert says
As Americans gear up for summer travel, prices at the pump may be cooling off. This summer could bring the lowest gas prices in years, and the national average price of gas could fall below $3 a gallon as early as September, says Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "It's going to be the cheapest summer since 2021, when the economy was heavily influenced by Covid," De Haan says. As of Tuesday, the national average for a gallon of gas in the U.S. was $3.21, up roughly 10 cents from two weeks ago, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The spike was largely driven by a jump in oil prices due to the Israel-Iran conflict in the Middle East, but now that both countries have agreed to a ceasefire, De Haan says he expects prices to steeply fall and then resume their "slow decline" over the course of the summer. Typically, gas prices tend to drop throughout the summer due to various factors that increase the supply of gas, De Haan says. That includes jolts to gas prices from the switch to a more expensive summer blend of gasoline leveling off, refineries increasing production and consumer demand softening after early summer travel peaks. "Obviously the Middle East situation is an exception, but now that this is, seemingly for now, in de-escalation, gas prices should resume their slow decline over the course of the summer," De Haan says. Adjusted for inflation, gas prices are near the lowest levels we've seen in the last 20 years, De Haan says. The typical American uses about 3% of their income to fill up their tank every year, De Haan says, whether it's with gasoline or diesel. Due to rising incomes, "Americans are actually spending far less of their income on energy than they have in quite some time," De Haan says. Year over year, the price of gas is down 12%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' most recent Consumer Price Index report released earlier in June. This is largely due to fears that the U.S. economy is slowing down and an increase in supply of oil from a group of oil-producing nations known OPEC+, CNBC reported in May. Ultimately, De Haan says it's important to remember that most shocks will be temporary. The price of gas is mostly determined by the market for oil, which is constantly reacting to global events — so just as quickly as prices rise, they will often fall once the disruption passes. "Every event that's ever affected us from a pipeline outage … to major hurricanes that impact gas prices, all these events are temporary," De Haan says. "The world is changing every day. It's not always for the worst."

Donald Trump Suffers Legal Blow: ‘Grave Constitutional Violations'
On Friday, a federal judge blocked President Donald Trump's executive order targeting legal firm Susman Godfrey, ruling it was "unconstitutional from beginning to end." This is the fourth defeat in court Trump has suffered since imposing punitive measures on a number of law firms that either were involved in legal cases against him or represented his political rivals. Newsweek contacted the White House and Susman Godfrey for comment on Saturday outside of regular office hours via email and telephone respectively. In March, Trump issued a slew of executive orders targeting law firms resulting in a number taking legal action, though others struck deals with the White House which saw them agree to do unpaid work on behalf of causes the president supports. Critics argued Trump's move was unconstitutional and an assault on free expression, whilst the White House said it was needed to combat what it termed "dishonest" activity. The executive orders Trump imposed on various law firms, including Susman Godfrey, featured a number of punitive measures such as blocking their employees access to government buildings, terminating government contracts and suspending security clearance. Friday saw District Judge Loren AliKhan conclude that in the case of Susman Godfrey, Trump's order was "unconstitutional from beginning to end." She said: "Every court to have considered a challenge to one of these orders has found grave constitutional violations and permanently enjoined enforcement of the order in full. "Today, this court follows suit, concluding that the order targeting Susman violates the U.S. Constitution and must be permanently enjoined." Trump's executive order targeting Susman Godfrey was already the subject of a temporary restraining order issued by the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on April 15. Susman Godfrey is the fourth law firm targeted by Trump's executive orders that has successfully fought to get them blocked in court, following Perkins Coie, Jenner & Block and WilmerHale. The rulings were issued by judges appointed by both Democratic and Republican presidents. In a statement, Susman Godfrey said: "The Court's ruling is a resounding victory for the rule of law and the right of every American to be represented by legal counsel without fear of retaliation. "We applaud the Court for declaring the administration's order unconstitutional. Our firm is committed to the rule of law and to protecting the rights of our clients without regard to their political or other beliefs. Susman Godfrey's lawyers and staff live these values every day." In his ruling on WilmerHale's case, Judge Richard Leon, a George W. Bush appointee, said: "The cornerstone of the American system of justice is an independent judiciary and an independent bar willing to tackle unpopular cases, however daunting. "The Founding Fathers knew this! Accordingly, they took pains to enshrine in the Constitution certain rights that would serve as the foundation for that independence." Friday's judgement means the executive order targeting Susman Godfrey will not go into effect. The Trump administration has not said whether it plans to appeal. A new recall was issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration yesterday, affecting 62,468 vehicles that may be at risk of catching fire. According to the NHTSA recall documents, Chevrolet Silverado Medium Duty pickups (4500HD, 5500HD, 6500HD) produced from 2019-2024 may have a fault within their brake pressure sensor assemblies that could lead to a brake fluid leak. In the worst cases, after this brake fluid leaks into the brake pressure switch and causes a short circuit, a fire can break out. As a result, "owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete." The recall places the blame for the issue on the use of an unauthorized chemical by the supplier of the brake assembly, and it appears to be something that GM has been working on for some time. A recall was issued in April 2023 to address a fragmenting zinc sealant that could interfere with a diaphragm that prevents brake fluid from leaking into the sensor wiring harness. Then, in October of 2024, a quality manager flagged an issue with a 2023 Silverado Medium Duty pickup "that was exhibiting unintended brake pump activation." This vehicle was not covered by the earlier recall, and when another similar report was filed over a 2021 vehicle, GM knew there was an issue. The automaker investigated in January 2025, and in March, it asked its supplier (Akron Rubber Development Lab) to test its components. Testing was completed by the end of April, by which point GM's investigator identified one alleged fire among 160 potentially related reports, prompting the recall. No accidents or injuries related to the issue have come to GM's that were already recalled under the April 2023 notice will need to be repaired again, and owners can expect to receive notification letters in the mail from July 28, with secondary letters to be mailed once a remedy is available. When it is, dealers will replace the brake pressure switch wire harness free of charge. Fortunately, although all owners impacted by the recall should play it safe and park outside and away from buildings, only around 1% of the recalled vehicles are expected to be affected. Silverado Medium Duty trucks from the 2024 model year are not affected since they were "produced with a brake switch wire harness that includes a silicone sealant." This new recall follows one that was issued at the end of last month for Cadillac Lyriq EVs that could have blank touchscreen displays, an issue that first appeared in 2022. Whether it's a novel EV or an old-school workhorse, recalls are just a part of production, and GM can at least take comfort in the knowledge that it's having a much better time with the NHTSA than Ford.
