First millennial saint Carlo Acutis will be canonized Sept. 7, the pope says
Leo made the announcement during a meeting of cardinals, known as a consistory, to set the dates for a handful of new saints.
Acutis' canonization was originally scheduled for April 27, but was postponed following the death of Pope Francis on April 21.
Acutis was 15 when he died in northern Italy in 2006, after a short bout with leukemia. He has become enormously popular especially among young Catholics who have been flocking to his tomb in Assisi.
While he enjoyed regular pastimes for his age — hiking, video games, and joking around with friends – he also taught catechism in a local parish and did outreach to the homeless. He used his computer skills to create an online exhibit about more than 100 eucharistic miracles recognized by the church over many centuries.
His tomb in Assisi has become a pilgrimage site especially during the 2025 Holy Year underway. It features a glass coffin in which Acutis can be seen dressed in sneakers, jeans and a sweatshirt,
In setting the Sept. 7 date, Leo announced that Acutis would be canonized along with another Italian Catholic, Pier Giorgio Frassati, who also died young at age 24 after contracting polio.

PlayStation is giving away free games worth over £130 in days including survival hit ‘better than The Last of Us'
SONY has announced the new free PlayStation Plus games that members can enjoy in August. The gaming giant is adding a well-known survival title, an anime-based arena fighter and an action RPG to its line-up. 2 PlayStation Plus members receive three to four new games each month as part of their subscription. In July, the freebies listed were RPG Diablo 4, The King of Fighters 15 and Jusant. This upcoming month, PS Plus subscribers will be able to claim the following three games, starting August 5: DayZ (PS4) Lies of P (PS4/PS5) My Hero One's Justice 2 (PS4) Lies of P, hailed by gamers as the standout hit, is available on both PS4 and PS5. The 2023 action role-playing game, developed by Neowiz, reimagines The Adventures of Pinocchio, an 1883 children's fantasy novel by Italian author Carlo Collodi. Becky, 31, will marry her longtime boyfriend Charlie Gardner later this summer. Her pals had organised a day of activities, with three-time Brit Award winner Becky looking happy and relaxed as she arrived on the shore in a white skirt and gingham top. She stripped down to a black bikini to get in the water with her hens and was seen messing around with inflatables as she soaked up the sun. 'He has helped not only with the inspiration for me to write the album but also then bringing the album to life. 'One of the things that attracted me to him was my Spotify playlist. 'I had all the big dance bangers from the Noughties and all the tunes he used to play.' Becky wrote all 15 tracks on the new record but says she feared taking time out to travel the world after her second album left her worrying if she had lost her touch.
