Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, July 1.
Ramsey: Mexico opportunity excited me
Aaron Ramsey has lifted the lid on his decision to leave Cardiff City for Mexican side Pumas UNAM.
The former Bluebirds midfielder endured an injury-ravaged two years at Cardiff, which culminated in him taking the head coach job on an interim basis for the final three games. However, he couldn't stave off relegation to League One.
Cardiff, however, held talks with Ramsey over potentially taking over on a permanent basis this summer, before the Wales star informed them he wanted to go elsewhere to pursue playing opportunities.
His link-up with the Mexican side raised eyebrows, however he does share an agent with Pumas manager Efraín Juárez, so there was an obvious link. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community
After being unveiled as their new player, following the expiration of his contract at Cardiff, he said: "When this opportunity came up, it was something I was really excited by. The manager really wanted me and I was encouraged by what he had to say and I'm looking forward to working with him now.

"He's an exciting, young manager who has had good success already in his career so far. I'm looking forward to being involved and playing my part. I'm excited to play and be part of this historic club. I can't wait to get on the pitch.
"I want to get back to enjoying my football again and the rest will come then. I've watched a few of the games in the last few weeks and I've been really impressed. There's good quality and some good teams. I'm excited to play a part in this competition."
Cardiff add three to Barry-Murphy's staff
Cardiff City have made three additions to Brian Barry-Murphy's coaching staff as the new head coach looks to reshape his team.
WalesOnline reported that Kevin Gibbins would leave his role at Rochdale to take up a new gig with the Bluebirds and he has been appointed head of performance, replacing the outgoing Jonny Northeast.
However, Cardiff have made two more additions on the analysis team, bringing in data analyst Rob Clarke and lead first-team analyst Luke Foulkes.
Foulkes joins after six years in Australia with Western Sydney Wanderers. He had previously held analysis roles with Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United.
Speaking about the new additions, Barry-Murphy said the addition of Gibbins was of 'paramount importance'.
'Kevin is somebody that I've worked with before, and in line with the overall vision of what we have for the club, we want a team that is really exciting to watch," he said.
"To deliver that, the players have to have a really particular set of values, and as coaching staff, we have to deliver those values and develop the players in a way that is really specific.
'Kevin has a deep understanding of the adaptation physically in terms of what fitness we require. His appointment is of paramount importance, and I'm really grateful for the club to give me that support to get somebody in who I believe is best in class in such an important role.
'Rob again has a really specific understanding of the way we want to work and what we want to see, in terms of player recruitment and our training model. The way that we work is as a team of staff, really united with the players and the whole club, to try and put together a package that becomes very exciting for everybody.'
Nine new scholars sign deals
Cardiff City have confirmed nine new additions to their U18 squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, with the latest cohort of scholars returning for pre-season training this week.
The group, made up of promising young talents from the Bluebirds' academy setup, have each signed two-year scholarship deals as they begin their full-time football development journeys.
The new scholars are: Joshua Donovan, Logan Cartwright, Harri Davies, Thomas Prickett, Robert Tankiewicz, Tiger Tobin, Ellis Yorke, Leo Papirnyk and Jack Sykes.
Academy coach Tom Hutton spoke positively about the new intake, saying: 'Pre-season is an exciting time of the year as we welcome a new group of scholars to the U18s, and as an academy we are really optimistic about what this group can achieve both individually and collectively.
'The early part of the season is all about helping them understand the demands of a full-time development model. How they prepare, perform and recover each day is key to maximising their potential.
'Our job as staff is to set expectations on and off the pitch and nurture the behaviours that will give them long-term success in the game.'
Goalkeeper Donovan, a long-serving academy player since U9 level, has steadily risen through the ranks and now steps into the U18s. He is joined by defender Logan Cartwright, who came through the U13s and has represented Wales at youth level, including in the prestigious Victory Shield.
Davies, a product of the U14s, played a key role in Cardiff's U17s reaching the PDL Trophy Final last season, while commanding centre-back Thomas Prickett captained the successful U15s Cup side and joined the academy at U12s level.
Midfielder Tankiewicz, another long-term Bluebird from U9 level, gained U18s experience last season and has also featured for Wales at youth level. He played alongside Cartwright in the Victory Shield.
Tobin, also with the club since U9s, made headlines by scoring the winner in the Floodlit Cup final earlier this year and now earns his scholarship terms.

Dynamic midfielder Yorke, who joined at U13s, continues his progress through the ranks, while attacker Papirnyk—who first featured for Cardiff's U16s—has already had U18 experience and represented Wales last season.
The final addition is Sykes, who joined the club at U14 level and impressed in the U17s' PDL Trophy run. He also found the net at Cardiff City Stadium in the Floodlit Cup Final. The new scholars will now aim to build on their early promise as part of Cardiff City's U18 setup for the upcoming season. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community

Jude Bellingham cruelly denied reunion with brother Jobe at Club World Cup
Both Jude and Jobe Bellingham are playing at the Club World Cup for Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund respectively but the two will not meet despite the club's playing each other in the next round Jude Bellingham has been robbed of the chance to play against brother Jobe at the Club World Cup after a FIFA ban. The two were expected to face off in the quarter-finals of the tournament, with Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund beating Juventus and Monterrey respectively in the last 16. But Jobe - who signed for the Bundesliga giants from Sunderland earlier this summer - will not play in that game having picked up a booking in the German side's latest win. With two cautions now to his name, he will now serve an automatic suspension. Yellow cards are only wiped out after the quarter-finals of the competition. And Jobe was clearly gutted at the prospect of missing out on the next game and thus a reunion with his brother. But Dortmund boss Niko Kovac believes it is only a matter of time before the pair meet on the pitch. Speaking after the game, the Dortmund boss said: "I think we all saw that he [Jobe Bellingham] was very disappointed. I think he did not exactly know that the second yellow card is a suspension at half-time. He was a little bit surprised. "OK, he's young. His brother is also young so I'm convinced they will face each other, maybe next season in the Champions League and then the future. The future is for them. "The Club World Cup would be nice but now it isn't. Someone else must play for him but it's also okay." And while the pair won't get to play against each other for now, Jude has already revealed his ambitions to become teammates with his brother on the international stage. He said: 'Because we're of a similar age and we've played together for so long - in the street and on tufts of grass - to play with my brother for England... that would be the biggest dream of my life. "That would mean more than any of the trophies, especially if we managed to do it on a consistent basis and play at a major tournament together, win things together. Nothing would even get close to that." Jobe had so far made four appearances for Dortmund at the Club World Cup following his blockbuster move from Sunderland. And he managed to score his first goal for the club in a 4-3 win against Mamelodi Sundowns last month. Jude has also been on the scoresheet at the tournament, netting against Mexican side Pachuca in the group stage. Luuk de Jong to Rangers transfer earns direct response from PSV boss
The 34-year-old striker is a free agent and has been linked with the Light Blues PSV Eindhoven boss Peter Bosz has revealed striker Luuk de Jong has yet to make a decision about his future, after he was quizzed about Rangers' interest in him. The former Barcelona, Newcastle United and Sevilla star is a free agent after going out of contract with the Dutch champions. PSV have returned to training and offered de Jong a new deal and facilities for the close season, but the 34-year-old wasn't there on the first day of pre-season training. He was linked with a move to both Rangers and Besiktas and Bosz admitted he is in the dark about de Jong's destination. He said: "Luuk doesn't know yet what he will do. I spoke to him briefly, not so long ago I definitely still hope Luuk will return here. "He hasn't said he's staying, but he hasn't said he's going either. He doesn't know yet. I've worked with Luuk wonderfully in the past two years, so I hope he stays. "Look, the club has to make a decision about him at some point. We might have to say that we will switch to someone else. There might come a point where we have to do that. "But anyway, he said the same thing to me as he said to the club - he doesn't know what he is going to do yet. "He no longer has a contract at PSV - he can still come and train here, but he's chosen not to do that. "As I understand it, it's because he does not want to create a false impression. It is certainly a unique situation." Meanwhile, Rangers could come up against a familiar face in the Champions League with Panathinaikos interested in signing freed Dundee defender Antonio Portales. The 29-year-old Mexican stopper was released in the summer after two years with the Dens Park club. He wants to remain in European football after his stint on Tayside and has options to resume his career there. Rangers face the Greek side in the second qualifying round of the Champions League later this month, with the second leg in Athens. And reports in Mexico have suggested Panathinaikos are leading the chase to sign Portales, although they face competition from Metz in France as well as Turkish clubs Goztepe and Kocaelispor. Portales made 55 appearances in total for Dundee since joining from Mexico City club Atlante and chipped in with six goals. And he could be set to resume his career with a dream move to a club who have ambitions of getting into the league phase of the Champions League, if they can defeat Rangers.

Ulster coach Richie Murphy reveals why Challenge Cup draw will be a benefit to his young side
The province have been placed in a pool with bitter French rivals Racing 92 and Stade Francais Paris, the latter of whom Ulster fans will remember bitterly after the unsavoury eye gouge incident in their last meeting in 2009, as well as ex-Pro14 side the Cheetahs, former European champions Exeter Chiefs and Welsh outfit Cardiff. While it is not the competition Ulster want to be in, having missed out on the top-tier Champions Cup after finishing 14th in the United Rugby Championship last season, it is still a tough pool draw for Murphy's men. The fixtures are yet to be determined, with Ulster set to face only four of their five pool rivals — the province are likeliest not to face Cardiff due to them being a fellow URC team — but there is the possibility of two trips to Paris in December and January, or a first ever trip to Amsterdam, where the Cheetahs are based despite being from Bloemfontein in South Africa. While they avoided the likes of a trip to Georgia or some less familiar French sides in the draw, Murphy says is excited to pit his squad against some recognisable faces, and he is hopeful that some full-blooded European ties will do his squad some good. 'We're really excited for what lies ahead in the Challenge Cup. Being drawn alongside some top-quality opposition gives us a brilliant challenge and a great opportunity to test ourselves against teams we don't face week in, week out,' said the head coach, who is going into his second full season in charge. 'It's a new mix of styles and environments that will challenge the squad and excite our supporters. European competitions are always incredibly tough, and we're really looking forward to getting stuck in.' Even though they have dropped down into the Challenge Cup, there is no doubting the draw could have been much kinder for Ulster, who have been handed a former European champion, a three-time Champions Cup finalist and two former Challenge Cup champions in their pool. Racing 92 are the big draw with the galactico squad at their disposal that contains the likes of France captain Gaël Fickou and fellow internationals Demba Bamba, Nolann le Garrec and Cameron Woki, as well as incoming Australian prop Taniela Tupou. The two sides have met as recently as December 2023 when Ulster triumphed 31-15 at Ravenhill in a Champions Cup clash, with this meeting the fourth in the pair's history. There will be plenty of Ulster fans who will be eagerly anticipating the rematch with Stade Francais after the pair's infamous last meeting in 2009 when Stephen Ferris was eye-gouged by David Attoub, who received a 70-week ban for his actions. No longer a European powerhouse, the Parisians still boast a strong squad led by mercurial French full-back Léo Barré and will be a stern test for this young Ulster squad. The Cheetahs will be an intriguing prospect, too, the South Africans playing their home matches in Amsterdam as opposed to Bloemfontein, with Ulster set for their first meeting with the former Pro14 side since they left the League in 2020. And there will be a quick rematch with Exeter, whom Ulster defeated at Ravenhill back in January to book their place in the last-16 of the Champions Cup, in the pool stages as well, Rob Baxter's former European champions having fallen away in recent years but still a threat thanks to the likes of Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, Henry Slade and Ross Vintcent.
