Meta launches anti-scam campaign with a twist to drive digital safety awareness
Building on the success of last year's campaign, Scam se Bacho 2.0 brings scam awareness into public spaces across some of the most iconic streets in Mumbai, using culturally relevant and visually impactful storytelling to inform people about common online scams such as fake loan scams, impersonation and OTP fraud, among others.
The campaign features Signboard_wala holding different signs such as 'Ex ho ya scammer, dono ko block & report karo' and 'Keep your friends close and your OTPs closer' – packaged as witty one-liners, the campaign delivers important digital safety lessons, spotlights Meta's safety features like two-factor authentication (2FA), Block and Report and encourages people to take an active role in their online safety.
The clever, humorous messages designed to grab attention, definitely spark a smile but most importantly, make people pause and reconsider online scams. It's awareness with a twist - no preaching, no drama – just authentic, relatable moments that resonate.
Last year Meta launched its safety campaign 'Scams se Bacho' by partnering with Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana to educate people on how to stay safe from online scams and promote safer digital practices. Launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), the campaign emphasised Meta's commitment to safeguard people online, supporting the Government's goal to combat the rising cases of scams and cyber frauds in the country.

RTO detects misuse of eKYC-based faceless system, 3 learner licences cancelled
1 2 Nagpur: The Regional Transport Office (Nagpur City) cancelled the learner licences of three individuals after detecting misuse of the eKYC-based faceless system. The action followed an internal probe which revealed that the candidates shared their Aadhaar-linked OTPs with third parties, who then took the online test on their behalf. Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector Dhwaj Dakhne lodged a complaint with Sitabuldi Police Station on July 10, 2025, seeking an investigation into the matter. According to RTO officials, the faceless system was designed to eliminate human intervention by using biometric verification and OTP-based authentication, but this case exposed vulnerabilities in its implementation. According to the RTO's findings, three candidates allegedly shared their eKYC-generated OTPs with third-party representatives, who then appeared for the learner licence test on their behalf. The RTO submitted that all relevant evidence, including audio recordings, will be provided to the police. Personal notices are expected to be issued to the candidates to seek their explanation before further departmental action. A senior official from Sitabuldi Police Station confirmed receipt of the complaint and said coordination is ongoing with the RTO. "We have asked the RTO to verify the case at their level and identify the three individuals who indulged in malpractice. Once we receive proper documentation and evidence to the matter, legal action will follow," the official said. "This incident is a serious breach of the faceless service system, which was introduced to simplify the licensing process. Sharing OTPs to let someone else take the test is a clear violation of the law and undermines the system's credibility," said Kiran Bidkar, Regional Transport Officer, Nagpur (City). Bidkar added that the licences have already been cancelled and a formal police complaint has been lodged. "Citizens are strictly advised not to misuse the faceless system. If any such fraud is found, we will take stringent action in the interest of road safety and system integrity," he said.

Cyber Crime Police arrest 48 from eight States, recover ₹2.21 crore in July crackdown
The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested 48 individuals from across eight States during special operations carried out in July. The arrested persons were involved in 415 cyber fraud cases registered across the country, including 78 in Telangana. A total of ₹2.2 crore was refunded to victims. Among those arrested, six were involved in digital arrest frauds, 21 in investment and trading scams, and 21 in various other types of cyber offences. The arrests were made based on 301 complaints received through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP). Of these, 179 FIRs were registered at cyber crime police stations, while 90 cases were filed with the help of Zonal Cyber Cells in other police stations. The accused had links to cases registered in multiple states including Andhra Pradesh (16), Delhi (19), Gujarat (24), Karnataka (72), Maharashtra (23), Tamil Nadu (27), West Bengal (60), and Telangana (78), among others. Items seized during the operations include 89 mobile phones, 56 cheque books, 94 debit cards, 3 laptops, 12 shell company stamps, 25 SIM cards, 39 bank passbooks, 2 tablets, a pack of visiting cards, and ₹1 lakh in cash. Refunds were processed across various categories of fraud: ₹5.15 crore in investment frauds, ₹9.64 lakh in trading scams, ₹3.58 lakh in OTP frauds, and ₹14.25 crore in impersonation cases, among others. In one of the cases, a businessman lost ₹1.11 crore in a fake import-export deal involving a non-existent Hong Kong-based firm introduced by Lakshya Verma of Trade Fundament of Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi. The accused, Para Singla, was arrested in this case. A separate digital arrest case involved a 76-year-old woman from Secunderabad, who was coerced into transferring ₹40.5 lakh after being falsely told she was implicated in a human trafficking case. One accused, Sourav S. of Chitradurga, Karnataka, was arrested and 2 mobile phones, 5 cheque books, 10 debit/credit cards, 3 company stamps and visiting cards were seized.
