Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka instructed electricity officials to identify 23 locations across the State to bring into large-scale use power from hydel and pumped storage sources, and submit a comprehensive report.
He held a review meeting with GENCO and TRANSCO officials at Somasila in Kollapur constituency on Sunday. He reviewed the hydropower projects on the Krishna River from Jurala to Pulichintala, and suggested that if necessary, the services of globally renowned consultants should be utilised.
The Deputy CM appreciated the foresight of the Congress government of 1978, which introduced advanced technologies with the help of world-famous Japanese companies like Toshiba and Mitsubishi, conducting deep studies on reverse pumping systems at the time. He praised the visionary thinking of the leaders and engineers of that era.
Further, GENCO directors and officials were instructed to draw up plans for sufficient power generation over the next 10 to 20 years in line with increasing demand. He stressed the need to expand the use of alternative energy sources like Green hydrogen, Floating solar, Rooftop solar, Thermal power, Wind energy and battery storage systems.

In over 80% of areas, collector rates have increased by only 10%: CM Saini

Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, asserting that despite 55 years in power post-Independence, the party failed to bring genuine change for the poor. Addressing a state-level programme in Panchkula, Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini contrasted the Congress's legacy with the transformative impact of welfare schemes implemented by the central and state governments under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. (HT Photo) Addressing a state-level programme in Panchkula, CM Saini contrasted the Congress's legacy with the transformative impact of welfare schemes implemented by the central and state governments under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. 'During the reign of the Congress, the poor became poorer,' Saini stated, emphasising that the current administration has delivered tangible benefits at the grassroots level. He specifically highlighted the discrepancy in housing initiatives. 'In the past, Congress promised plots to poor families but failed to provide proper documents or possession. Today, our government has not only given legal documents but also handed over the actual possession of 100-square-yard plots to beneficiaries,' he affirmed. Saini also challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's skepticism regarding 'Jan Dhan' accounts. 'I challenge him to look at the data; he should see the figures of 'Jan Dhan' accounts, in which the poor have deposited their hard-earned savings in the last 11 years,' the CM said. Refuting opposition claims that the government is collecting ₹5,000 crore in the name of collector rates, Saini clarified, 'The truth is, in over 80% of areas in Haryana, rates have increased by only 10%. There is a process for this, under which the collector rate is renewed every year considering the highest registry as the basis. Spreading such lies is irresponsible.' At the event, Saini handed over 'interim' ownership certificates under the Mukhyamantri Shehri Awas Yojana and plot allotment letters under the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana 2.0 to thousands of beneficiaries. He announced that 1,144 beneficiaries in Sector-23, Jagadhri, received urban interim ownership certificates, while 3,884 rural beneficiaries received plot allotment letters across 58 villages. Sharing further details on housing, Saini said that under the first phase of the Mukhyamantri Shehri Awas Yojana, 15,256 families in 14 cities had already been allotted 30-square-yard plots, receiving a ₹2.5 lakh subsidy per household under PMAY–Urban 2.0 for house construction. In rural areas, the process to allot plots to 1.58 lakh applicants in 561 villages is underway under Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana–2.0. Additionally, rural beneficiaries will receive ₹1.38 lakh under PMAY–Gramin, ₹12,000 for toilets, and 90 days of unskilled labor wages under MGNREGA. Development & panchayats minister Krishan Lal Panwar lauded CM Saini's leadership, noting that historic decisions are being taken for the welfare of the poor, youth, and women. He also mentioned that families with annual incomes up to ₹1.80 lakh would be provided 2 kW solar panels.

"Held multiple meetings on Bangladesh, Foreign Secretary Misri addressed all queries": Shashi Tharoor on Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting

IANS Congress MP and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor (File Photo) Following the Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting on External Affairs held on August 4, Committee Chairperson and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stated that multiple meetings were held on Bangladesh, during which Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed all queries raised by the members."We have held 3-4 meetings on Bangladesh, and this was the last meeting where the Foreign Secretary has given us a briefing, and in this briefing, all the questions that the Members had to ask were discussed. The Foreign Secretary has answered all of them," Tharoor told added that the Committee will now prepare its report, which will be placed before Parliament. "After this, it is our job to write a report, adopt it and present it to the Parliament. Before doing that, I cannot tell what we will decide, what advice we will give..." he said. The Parliamentary Standing Committee met on August 4 to review the future of India-Bangladesh relations. The meeting saw officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) presenting evidence on the future of India-Bangladesh relations. The agenda also included a review of the draft report on action taken by the government on recommendations made in an earlier report concerning the MEA's demands for grants for 2024-25. According to Tharoor, the August 4 meeting marked the final round of deliberations on the issue. He reiterated that the Foreign Secretary had briefed the panel and addressed all queries raised by the members. The committee will now prepare, adopt, and present a report to Parliament. The panel had earlier met on June 27, during which it heard the views of experts on the topic 'Future of India-Bangladesh Relationship'. Following the meeting, Tharoor stated that the Committee benefited from the insights of "four first-class experts." He also noted that the number of Bangladeshis entering India had declined in recent times."You will see our report in the next few weeks... We didn't discuss (the issue of Bangladeshis living in India). But we were told about a figure that the number of Bangladeshis coming to our country has lessened now," he said. India-Bangladesh ties have seen some strain in the recent past. Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also commented on the 25 per cent tariffs imposed on India by US President Donald Trump, stating that the matter is expected to be discussed on August 11. "I think the tariffs will be discussed on 11th August," he said. Trump, in a recent post on his Truth Social platform, stated that a 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods would be implemented from August 1. He also warned of additional penalties over India's oil trade with Russia."Remember, while India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any Country. Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia's largest buyer of ENERGY, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop killing in Ukraine - STOP THE KILLING IN UKRAINE - ALL THINGS NOT GOOD! INDIA WILL THEREFORE BE PAYING A TARIFF OF 25%, PLUS A PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE, STARTING ON AUGUST 1st. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. MAGA!", Trump posted.

Opposition loves anti-national forces, not Bharat, says Rekha Gupta in Assembly

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday alleged that the opposition parties love anti-national forces but not Bharat and hailed PM Narendra Modi for Operation Sindoor to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. The Chief Minister made the remarks while speaking in the Delhi Assembly during a debate on Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. She said Operation Sindoor was a befitting reply to Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack in which some women lost their loved ones, asserting that Prime Minister Modi played a huge role in protecting the dignity of 'our sisters'. Hitting out at the Congress-led INDIA bloc, the chief minister said, 'These people (Opposition) do not love Bharat, but they love anti-national forces because they see their own reflection in them.' 'The opposition parties came together to form INDIA bloc. The name is 'INDIA' but if you listen to them, it feels like they are spokespersons for Pakistan... Even in the Lok Sabha, many people raised questions on Operation Sindoor. They do not trust their own army, their own prime minister but they trust foreign countries,' she said. The Chief Minister also attacked the Congress over the issue of Partition. 'In 1947, your party (Congress) was in power. You took credit for India's Independence but not for Partition. Why didn't you take responsibility of 1962 Indo-China war?' the chief minister said. Earlier, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha was marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly on Monday after he refused to apologise for making objectionable remarks during a discussion on Operation Sindoor. Participating in the discussion on the motion to thank the prime minister, home minister and the armed forces for Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood said the two operations represent the new normal in response to terror attacks. 'After terrorist attacks, dossiers are not sent any longer; instead, the army is given a clear order to eliminate the enemy,' he said. Sood said those questioning the two operations should be tried under sedition charges. In his speech, Jha attacked the Centre for accepting the 'ceasefire' during India-Pakistan military conflict and used words that the Speaker directed to be expunged from the records. Speaker Vijender Gupta also asked Jha to tender an apology to the House. However, as Jha remained defiant, he was marshalled out in the direction of the Speaker. Jha hit out at the BJP, saying the decision of ceasefire was made by US President Trump and criticised the central government for accepting it. 'Operation Sindoor was an opportunity to teach a lesson to the enemy and take back the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir,' the AAP MLA from Burari said. Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian armed forces to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were massacred.
