Motorola made the best looking brown phone I've ever seen
Grey is just about as middle-of-the-road as you can get when it comes to colors. It goes perfectly with a black or a white phone, in that it's never going to offend anyone's eyes or turn anyone off. Brown is not that color. It's the color of bears, tree trunks, and, well, you know, that. We smile and laugh at kitsch brown car interiors from the 70s, and consider a brown interior today a brave specification choice, even on a Ferrari where it's called things like 'tan' to disguise the fact it's brown. Until I set eyes on the Edge 50 Neo, I probably wouldn't have gone for brown anything.
But Mocha Mousse isn't brown. Well, not completely brown anyway. It's brown like chocolate and perfectly complements the old wooden table top at my local cafe, plus it contrasts beautifully when placed next to an actual mocha coffee too. It doesn't blend in with either, like a bear hiding in the forest, and even goes rather well with my cream hoodie, white Swatch Moonswatch watch, and gold Apple MacBook Air. It turns out a brown phone is way more versatile than I expected.
Mocha Mousse is not a flat brown either. Get the phone in your hand and you'll immediately spot all the black flecks in the finish, which give it a surprisingly earthy look. But again, not in an unpleasant way. It's a carefully considered brown color that I think also only works when it's applied to Motorola's vegan leather material. If the Edge 50 Neo was glossy glass, I don't think it would work in the same way at all. It turns out the Mocha Mousse Motorola Edge 50 Neo is the brown leather jacket of the smartphone world: a fashion staple that goes with most things.
The comparison to leather isn't lost on Motorola, and there's a lovely matching, leather-like wallpaper to go with your Mocha Mousse phone. All phones have a selection of wallpapers included, but the majority are too bland or too garish, and choosing one when taking photos for a review is often a challenge. Motorola's matching wallpaper emphasizes texture, and it looks great. It's an easy choice to show off the phone's flat screen.
Motorola isn't solely responsible for the color scheme. It's the result of its ongoing partnership with color experts Pantone, and the iconic color swatch panel on the back of the Edge 50 Neo proudly shows off the name of the color, just in case you weren't aware it even had a name. In the same way the Grisaille shade on the other Motorola Edge 50 Neo I tried elevated it beyond being just another phone, Mocha Mousse does the same.
It's the choice to make if you're considering buying the Motorola Edge 50 Neo. As much as I like the Grisaille, it's nowhere near as eye-catching and unusual as Mocha Mousse. What's more, Motorola has also released a Mocha Mousse version of the Razr Plus 2024, or the Razr 50 Ultra if you aren't in the U.S..
We took a look at the compact folding phone in Mocha Mousse at the end of last year. There are a few notable differences between the two phones. The Razr doesn't have the Pantone swatch on the back, and the frame is gold rather than a gunmetal grey on the Edge 50 Neo. Here's a controversial statement: I think the Mocha Mousse Edge 50 Neo looks better than the Mocha Mousse Razr Plus. It's just a bit less gaudy, which is a consequence of the gold metal.
Handling the Edge 50 Neo again reminds me just how slim and light it is — just 8.1mm and 171 grams — and how the sensible 71mm width of the phone makes it easy to hold and use with one hand. I've been using the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra a lot recently, and the Motorola Edge 50 Neo feels very compact in comparison. It reminds me of the old Asus Zenfone 9's wonderful proportions.
The phone has been around since August 2024, so while it's still a current model, we may see an updated version in a few months time. It's also not a phone available to buy in the U.S., due to Motorola still releasing different phones in different regions, and with different names, rather than making things simple for everyone. The Razr Plus 2024 is available in the U.S. though, but it is the only model available in Mocha Mousse, so if you want the color and not a foldable, sadly you're out of luck.
Like the Edge 50 Neo, the Razr Plus is also likely to be replaced in the range soon, as it came out in June 2024. We're excited to see what's next, but perhaps even more excited to see what the big 'chase' color Motorola and Pantone have planned for 2025, based on the success of Mocha Mousse.

Faking It Before getting too invested in your online connection, ensure it's not a DeepFake. Advances in technology have taken catfishing to new heights. Bad actors can manipulate their visuals and voice online or phone to impersonate someone else. They use these false identities to find their way to your heart and data. DEEPFAKES The mere mention of this should throw you deep into thought. While the concept has only recently entered the public discourse, AI-generated DeepFakes have already led to an estimated $12 billion in fraud losses. Technology has gotten so advanced, individuals can now create convincing DeepFakes with an image, 60-seconds of audio, spending less than $15, and dedicating less than 10-minutes of effort. What is a DeepFake? Deepfakes are synthetic (but realistic) audio, video, and image content produced through artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) or other machine learning (ML) methods. AI can analyze images, videos, and voice recordings of specific people or generate entirely new identities. DeepFakes can replicate someone's voice tone, intonation, mannerisms and other distinguishing traits, making it appear as though they are saying or doing things they never did. The term 'DeepFake' combines 'deep learning' with 'fake,' highlighting both the technology behind it and its potential for deception. While there are legitimate uses for DeepFake technology, unfortunately, it can be easily misused for malicious purposes. What can a DeepFake do? Creators of DeepFakes can manipulate digital identities to say or do what they choose. There are legitimate applications, such as in the media and entertainment industry, where DeepFakes can be used to create action scenes safely or reduce the risk to actors. Unfortunately, the technology has also been nefariously used with detrimental effects. The risks are very real, as we have seen in recent headlines. Malicious Uses of DeepFakes BUSINESS FINANCIAL FRAUD AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY THEFT ⦁ Deepfake goal: Steal money from a large organization. ⦁ How: Creating a Deepfake of an executive or C-suite member to access funds or confidential information. Most employees will quickly implement direct leadership requests without question, falling victim to such schemes. ⦁ In the News: A finance professional attended a video conference with what appeared to be the company CFO and other colleagues. The DeepFake was so convincing that the ⦁ employee transferred $25.6 million total (through numerous transactions) to the attackers. ⦁ In the News: A Ferrari executive was targeted by a ⦁ DeepFake impersonating Ferrari's CEO, Benedetto Vigna. However, the clever executive thwarted the scam by asking a personal question Vigna would know the answer to. CYBERSECURITY – PHISHING AND SOCIAL ENGINEERING ⦁ Deepfake goal: Enhance the scale and effectiveness of cyber-attacks using DeepFake technology. ⦁ How: An Audio DeepFake can impersonate a targeted employee and gain access to sensitive company data. ⦁ In the News: A DeepFake voice convinced an IT support worker that he was also an ⦁ employee at MGM, and needed to change his password. With the updated credentials, the attacker got access to the corporate networks. FALSE INFORMATION ⦁ Deepfake goal: Spread misinformation to damage reputations, sway public opinion, or disrupt political or military events. ⦁ How: A Deepfake of a politician or leader announcing a drastic change in policy or a prominent figure appearing to behave inappropriately can cause significant turmoil and disruption. ⦁ In the News: A DeepFake video with the likeness of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was posted on social media ⦁ telling his soldiers to surrender to Russia. It was discovered to be fake and removed. ⦁ In the News: ⦁ Deepfake content featuring the likeness of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos for military action against China regarding the tensions in the South China Sea. ⦁ In the News: In the ⦁ 2024 Olympics, DeepFakes manipulated images, video, and audio to discredit coaches and athletes. BRAND THEFT TO PROMOTE SCAMS ⦁ Deepfake of famous and successful experts endorsing the scam as a legitimate answer to their problems. ⦁ In the News: A DeepFake video of Elon Musk promoting an investment opportunity convinced people to open an account with their savings. It turned out to be hackers stealing money using Musk's success and reputation to make their scam credible. ⦁ In the News: A self-help course by Wesley Virgin was ⦁ promoted by famous personalities Oprah Winfrey, Nigella Lawson, and Piers Morgan. These ads were all DeepFakes. ⦁ In the News: A ⦁ French doctor that appears on TV often has been trying to stop DeepFakes of his image being used to promote scam offers. ⦁ In the News: Bad Actors use a ⦁ DeepFake of Bob Irwin, son of the late and beloved Steve Irwin, 'Crocodile Hunter' to invest in a platform. PERSONAL HARMFUL IMPACTS ON INDIVIDUALS ⦁ Loved Ones/Children: DeepFake technology has been used to create fake ransom calls, where a hacker impersonates a child or loved one (built off of available social content online) and demands money from friends or family. Many parents or loved ones will do anything to keep their loved ones and kids safe and pay the money – no questions asked. ⦁ Reputation Damage: Bad actors use DeepFake technology to fabricate compromising images, video, or audio of their target, then extort money by threatening to release the content. The victim is usually too scared or embarrassed to tell anyone and desperately tries to get funds to pay off the blackmailer. ROMANCE SCAMS – DEEP FEELINGS FOR DEEPFAKES ⦁ Deepfake goal: DeepFakes to manipulate victims emotionally and financially through fabricated online relationships. ⦁ How: Romance scams reach new levels with the dawning of DeepFakes. Malicious actors can develop the perfect online match for those seeking love. It is much easier to catfish or use a customized fake identity to build an online relationship. Scammers can make identities to fit specific age ranges, ethnicities, physiques, complete with desired accents. Whatever preference their targets want, DeepFakes can make. ⦁ In the News: The ⦁ Yahoo Boys use two devices to create a digital mask that the scammer uses over his own so the mannerisms on the false identity appear real. Plus, they establish plausibility to use video or audio to connect, as these fake personas are not local to their online partners – such as military personnel, offshore workers, transportation professionals such as pilots or just regular folks that live internationally. They can be an individual scam or a large syndicate to generate huge payouts. ⦁ In the News: A Scottish woman ⦁ lost over $30,000 to a DeepFake relationship with an oil rig worker.⦁ In the News: Hong Kong police caught ⦁ a gang of scammers that catfished men across Asia to part with $46million. HOW ARE DEEPFAKES CREATED? There are many resources and tools available to create DeepFakes: ⦁ FaceSwap enables users to swap faces in images as well as photos.⦁ DeepFaceLab is a popular tool for creating DeepFake videos.⦁ Avatarify is a real-time DeepFake tool that gives facial movements onto avatars during live video calls.⦁ Descript is an audio-focused AI tool used to creates realistic voice deepfakes using text-to-speech. HOW CAN YOU DETECT DEEPFAKES? The good news is that advances in technology bring solutions to help protect against these scams. Using AI and machine learning algorithms, DeepFakes can be identified by tools such as:⦁ Microsoft Video Authenticator – Analyzes pixels and metadata to check if content has been manipulated.⦁ Truepic – Uses digital fingerprinting to authenticate media of if it has been tampered with.⦁ Sensity AI – Detects DeepFakes in real-time. 7 ways Google could make a Pixel Flip the best flip phone foldable out there
C. Scott Brown / Android Authority Google is preparing to launch the Pixel 10 Pro Fold this month, marking the company's third foray into the foldable phone space. What if you want a pocket-friendly Pixel foldable, though? Unfortunately, Google hasn't launched a Pixel Flip, and we don't expect one any time soon. That means Samsung and Motorola are the only globally available options if you want a foldable flip phone. That's a real shame, because I can think of several ways that Google could make the best flip phone on the market. So, here's what I'd like to see on this fictional (for now?) Pixel Flip. Now Playing on the cover screen AssembleDebug / Android Authority One of my favorite Pixel features is Now Playing, as Google uses on-device machine learning to identify songs playing around you. It then displays the artist and track name on your lock screen for your convenience. Honestly, it still blows me away after all these years. This feature seems well-suited to a flip phone's cover screen, as these info snippets are short enough for the outer display's lock screen. Google could even implement album art like it recently did with Now Playing on its conventional phones. 2. Single Take on a Pixel Flip Hadlee Simons / Android Authority I praised the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Samsung's Single Take mode several years ago as a great way to take photos of my cat (when she looked at the damn camera). All I had to do was place the half-opened Flip on a flat surface, start Single Take with my cat in the frame, and the phone would automatically take shots and videos for up to 10 seconds. I didn't need to hold the phone, either, and could include myself in the photos. How cool is that? I would love it if Google embraced this hands-free approach with a Pixel Flip phone. The company already offers Top Shot functionality for its cameras, capturing a short video and letting you save frames as HDR pictures. It even had a Photobooth feature on older Pixels, which automatically captured photos by detecting smiles, open eyes, and kisses. These two features make for a solid starting point. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold's Made You Look feature would also be a fun addition, as it captures the attention of pets and kids so you can get a better photo. But do you know what I'd like to see? Google's own attempt at Single Take. In fact, the ill-fated Google Clips camera previously offered similar functionality, as it automatically captured content. If the Pixel Flip ever sees the light of day, similar functionality would be right at home. 3. Astrophotography without a tripod Ryan Haines / Android Authority Google pioneered the astrophotography mode on smartphones back in 2019, and it's still one of my favorite features today. This mode requires a tripod on Pixel phones, but the Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold let you use Flex Mode instead. That means they effectively act as their own tripods. It makes sense for Google to bring this functionality to a theoretical Pixel Flip, too. And the ability to adjust the tilt angle makes for a more versatile experience if you want to adjust framing. Sure, companies like vivo let you take handheld astro photos, but can I tell you a secret? I still prefer Google's natural-looking astro shots. 4. Pixel Recorder on the cover display Hadlee Simons / Android Authority I'll miss the Recorder app when I eventually ditch my Pixel 7 Pro, as it's still the most powerful and convenient voice recorder app on the market. It's also an app that would be well-suited to the cover screen of a Pixel Flip, especially in my line of work. We've previously seen voice recorders on cover screens, but the Pixel Recorder offers on-device transcriptions, speaker labels, and seamless cloud backup functionality. You can even share these recordings and the accompanying transcripts via a web link. 5. A ton of tent mode features Ryan Haines / Android Authority Another cool thing you can do with foldable phones is put them in tent or desk mode. This effectively turns your phone into a bedside clock or a photo frame. I can think of a few ways that a theoretical Pixel Flip could leverage this posture. Google already offers a variety of software features on Pixel phones when connected to the Pixel Stand. This includes turning your phone into a Google Photos frame, a smart home controller, and a sunrise alarm. Imagine having these handy little features when using a Pixel Flip in tent mode? Google could even take things further by bringing the Pixel Weather app and the At A Glance widget to this mode. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Motorola Razr phones already offer Gemini on the cover screen, so Google wouldn't be breaking new ground by bringing it to a Pixel Flip cover display. However, the combo of Gemini Live and tent mode is intriguing, effectively turning your phone into a smart display. 6. Call screening without unfolding the phone Andy Walker / Android Authority Pixel 8a One of the biggest reasons to get a Pixel phone is the call screening feature. A virtual assistant answers an incoming call on your behalf, asks the caller why they're calling, and lets you hear (or read) their response. You can then choose to answer or reject the call, saving you from spammers and other inconvenient calls. This seems like a no-brainer for a future Pixel Flip phone, doesn't it? After all, the alternative is to unfold the phone and then tap the call screening option. Why do all that when you can just tap the outer screen? Google also offers other calling tricks, such as Hold for Me and Direct My Call, which also seem like obvious cover screen additions. 7. Using Google Wallet with a folded phone Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority One annoying issue I had with older Galaxy Z Flip phones was that I couldn't easily use Google Wallet to pay for stuff when the device was folded. Galaxy Z Flip phones eventually gained this functionality, but it requires downloading the MultiStar Good Lock module. This was particularly annoying as Samsung Pay worked fine out of the box. The ability to use Google Wallet with a folded phone seems like another no-brainer for a potential Pixel Flip. However, it would be great to see more Google Wallet capabilities on the cover screen, like viewing boarding passes, tickets, and other documents. Follow

Ferrari shares dip 12% in biggest decline since 2016 listing
Ferrari shares fell more than 12% on Thursday, the biggest single-day drop since the automaker was first publicly listed on stock exchanges in New York and Milan in 2016, Reuters reports. Yet unlike some automakers, Ferrari is maintaining its financial guidance amid uncertainty over the Trump Administration's tariffs. Citi analysts cited concerns that Ferrari will be able to maintain its profitability momentum in the second half of 2025 amid slowing sales and stagnating transaction prices. In its most recent earnings call, Ferrari said it was more confident in its previous 2025 guidance-which estimates gross earning of just over $3 billion-and reported a 4% increase in net revenue in the second quarter. Ferrari also said in the earnings call that it would remove a 10% price increase on new cars sold in the United States that's been in place since April, following a new trade deal that sets tariffs on cars imported from the European Union at 15%, down from the 27.5% tariff previously imposed by the Trump Administration. According to Reuters, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said in a media call that almost all cars the automaker sold in the U.S. during the second quarter were shipped before the 27.5% tariff was introduced, so the 10% price increase wasn't applied to them. That's the advantage of being a low-volume automaker with a backlog of orders (Vigna reportedly said Ferrari's current order book extends into 2027). Ferrari is also reportedly still on track to deliver its first all-electric car. Vigna said during the call that he had driven the first electric model, and that it would be shown to analysts in October, according to Reuters. A public debut is expected in spring 2026, with customer deliveries starting later in the year. However, this first EV may be a unique item for a while. Ferrari was reportedly planning to unveil a second EV in late 2026, but has pushed that back to 2028 due to low enthusiasm among its customers. Similar issues have been cited by rivals Lamborghini and Maserati, with the latter completely canceling an electric version of its MC20 supercar due to the lack of takers.
