PAPAR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living will hold a grand multi-day carnival starting July 16 at the 10Star Cinemas and Majestic Ballroom here at Parklane City. Over 1,000 people are expected to attend. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor and the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali are expected to officiate the event. 10Star Cinemas Sdn Bhd is the co-organiser and its Chief Executive Officer Onn Norshal Hamzah has invited WSG Group Managing Director Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen. The cinema at Parklane City will hold a nationwide premiere of the highly anticipated Malaysian film 'Impak Maksima 2' that day. A launch ceremony will also be held for an anti-scam movie titled 'Polis Action Silent Code', which is done in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). The event will feature stalls both inside and outside the ballroom, as well as a display of sports cars to hype up the premiere of 'Impak Maksima 2'. Onn said 500 seats across six halls of the cinema had been reserved for Armizan's supporters and Papar residents. Meanwhile, Susan believed the event would make Parklane City a hotspot for Paparians. She pledged full support for the event, including providing more parking spaces and necessary services to ensure the carnival is a memorable experience for the people of Papar. Meanwhile, an Indonesian film distributor has requested to launch their upcoming horror film at 10Star Cinemas in Papar,. He noted their previous true story-based film 'Vina' at the cinema has received overwhelming response. 10Star Cinemas currently has six cinemas across Sabah, with Tawau leading in revenue, but Benoni's outlet is rapidly climbing and is expected to become the top-performing cinema in Sabah by year-end. 'We're already seeing over 3,000 weekend admissions, which is a fantastic result,' he said. There are plans to expand expand into the newly developed Kinarut Palm City, another project by WSG Group, and create an upgraded version of its cinema entertainment complex. He added that 10Star Cinemas has invested around RM5 million for its project in Papar, and the company plans to invest RM7 million in Kinarut. His paintings have since been exhibited at numerous international art exhibitions, including in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, the United States and Canada. Among his popular artworks are Tari, Protest, Topeng, Wayang, Hijau, Segerak, Biring, Wajah and Ombak.

Sultan of Selangor graces unveiling of art luminary's latest exhibition
SHAH ALAM: Selangor's Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah honoured the unveiling of Cenderawasih, the latest series by renowned Malaysian artist Yusof Ghani. The occasion marked another milestone in Yusof's illustrious four-decade career as a painter, sculptor, writer, professor, and curator. "It is a great honour to have Tuanku officiate this new series," Yusof said in his speech at the Tapak Gallery on Saturday (June 28). "I encountered the majestic Cenderawasih, or the Bird-of-Paradise, during a visit to Papua New Guinea nearly a decade ago. "Amidst the darkness of the forest and the people, the radiant bird appeared like a dream. Its colour, its energy, its sheer beauty left a lasting impression on me," he added. Yusof recounted being "almost hypnotised" by the bird's presence, an experience that lingered long after he returned to Malaysia. That moment of awe, he explained, eventually evolved into Cenderawasih — a body of work that foregrounds aesthetic exploration above all. "In this series, I prioritised beauty, because if ever a subject deserved such reverence, it is the Cenderawasih. In my use of colour, I sought to create a visual symphony—an expression of the bird's splendour and spiritual resonance," he said. Titled Cenderawasih: Energy and Emotion, the series showcases Yusof's masterful use of oil and charcoal on canvas, blending layered colours and tonal contrasts to capture the bird's vibrant spirit and emotional depth.
