Sophie Cunningham instructs reporters to tell WNBA commissioner to 'pay us' amid union contract standoff

NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles! Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham sent a blunt message to the WNBA and commissioner Cathy Engelbert while speaking to reporters on Sunday. When asked about whether the WNBA season is too long or too short, Cunningham referenced the league's ongoing negotiations with the players' union about a new collective bargaining agreement, and players expressing a desire for more money. "You can just tell Cathy to pay us, and then we can have a discussion," Cunningham said. Players at the All-Star game on Saturday wore T-shirts that read "Pay Us What You Owe Us" during warmups. The shirts included the WNBPA logo. Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was one of many WNBA players who have criticized the league's handling of negotiations. "It was an eye-opener for me. Like, hearing the things and hearing the language of things and not things that I was happy to hear. It was disrespectful the things that we were sent back, the proposal that we were sent back," she said Friday. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP "It's important to be able to be vocal. If I sit back, it looks like I don't care." New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu said the players weren't going to settle for "the minimum" in negotiations, while Phoenix Mercury player Satou Sabally called the league's latest offer a "slap in the face."

Terry McLaurin Reportedly Not In Attendance For First Day Of Commanders' Camp

National Football League Terry McLaurin Reportedly Not In Attendance For First Day Of Commanders' Camp Updated Jul. 22, 2025 4:23 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link When the Washington Commanders reported to training camp on Tuesday, one of their top players didn't join them. Terry McLaurin wasn't in attendance for the first day of Commanders' training camp as he's in the midst of a contract dispute, ESPN reported. The star wide receiver has been outspoken about wanting a new deal this offseason. Entering the final year of his contract, McLaurn told reporters last week that it was "disappointing and frustrating" that he and the team haven't had substantive extension talks to this point. McLaurin, who earned his second Pro Bowl nod last season, hasn't decided if he'll ask for a trade yet, but he's most interested in "trying to bring a deal together, not breaking the team apart," a source close to the receiver told FOX Sports' Henry McKenna. However, "everything will be on the table," that source iterated to McKenna. The Commanders held their conditioning tests on Tuesday and will hit the practice field for the first time in training camp on Wednesday. While McLaurin didn't report to camp on Tuesday, he could theoretically show up on Wednesday, but not practice to avoid getting fined. ADVERTISEMENT This is a developing story and will be updated.
