Police confirm body recovered in Llandudno is that of missing 16 year old boy
North Wales Police has confirmed that the body recovered during searches near Llandudno is that of a 16-year-old who has been missing for nearly a week.
Athrun, aged 16, from South Gloucestershire, was on holiday in the Welsh town.
Athrun's family have been informed and are being supported by officers.
Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan said: 'Our thoughts are very much with Athrun's family, who wish to thank all agencies and members of the public for their overwhelming support with the search, and for not giving up on his recovery.
'This is not the outcome anyone hoped for, but we hope it can now provide some answers for Athrun's family.
'I continue to ask for their privacy to be respected at this incredibly difficult time.'
He was last seen at around 2pm on Saturday, 10 May, on West Shore Beach in Llandudno.
Multi-agency searches had been ongoing following the sighting of a body on the evening of 13 May.
Searches conducted by the police underwater search team, NPAS and coastguard resulted in a body being recovered.

Ashton Jones' family say he is making 'very steady progress' while still in hospital in Thailand following an alleged assault earlier this month (Image: Angela Roden Shepherd ) A Welsh dad fighting for his life in Thailand after an alleged assault led to a bleed on his brain is making 'very steady progress', his family have said. Ashton Jones, 29, from Cwmbran, flew out to Bangkok on May 30 for a holiday with friends but he disappeared from his friends in the early hours of June 3 and he was later found at Chonburi Hospital on a life support machine. Ashton, a father of two, then underwent emergency brain surgery during which a large portion of his skull had to be removed. Almost a month later he remains unable to speak properly and is interacting with his family with eye movements, noises and facial expressions. Ashton had gone out to Thailand to spend a holiday with friends but within days ended up in hospital on a life support machine (Image: WALES NEWS SERVICE ) Family friend Angela Roden Shepherd, speaking on behalf of the family, told WalesOnline: 'He's making very steady progress. The next move is to get him back into the rehabilitation place he originally was in before he got a lung infection. 'To put into context just how miraculous a recovery Ashton has made so far, Darren was actually asked if he wanted to put a do not resuscitate order on Ashton just a week ago. Darren said 'absolutely not' and in a few days Ashton had made a miraculous improvement. Article continues below 'I spoke to Ashton a couple of days ago. He's talking. He's not coherent but he's able to communicate. He's off the ventilator. He still has to be tube fed and he still has oxygen fed to him, and he still has to be restrained because he's in a lot of pain.' Ashton's father Darren has been out in Thailand for three weeks, helped by two locals - one British man and a Thai woman - who have put him up and are helping him with the language barrier as well as giving him lifts to and from the hospital. 'It's been awful but two wonderful people - a Thai lady and a British man - have taken Darren in and helped no end,' Angela explained. 'If it wasn't for them the translation would be completely lost and we wouldn't have a clue what was going on. They saw what happened online and reached out to Darren. 'They're putting him up and taking him back and forth to the hospital. They're feeding him and looking after him. They've been a real godsend. We don't know them from Adam but they're just amazing people.' Ashton Jones is gravely ill in a Thai hospital (Image: WALES NEWS SERVICE ) Angela said the family have been speaking with the police in Thailand who they say believe Ashton has been assaulted. 'He has been beaten half to death,' Angela said. 'But we don't know the circumstances around how and why, so we're not going to speculate. 'Ashton is starting to mumble things but it's too incoherent. The chances of catching them are virtually zero and the chances of getting money back to get Ashton home are virtually zero too.' Ashton had no medical insurance when travelling to Thailand. A fundraiser organised by his family online has so far raised more than £22,000 for his treatment and to get him back to the UK. YouTube star visits Swansea and immediately has her motorbike stolen Dutch YouTuber Noraly Schoenmaker had been in Swansea for a book signing, but found her bike stolen the next day A famous travel vlogger who has toured the world on her motorbike didn't get the best Welsh reception when she found out her motorbike had been stolen from a Swansea hotel car park. Dutch YouTuber and author Noraly Schoenmaker has travelled the world on different motorcycles, chronicling her journeys on her YouTube channel, Itchy Boots,. which has 2.8 million subscribes. She was in Swansea for a book signing event last week but when she woke up next day, she could not find her bike. 'You're not going to believe this, my bike is stolen, again! The bike is gone,' she said in her latest video documenting the ordeal. Noraly had parked her bike at the hotel car park. Fortunately, she had a tracker on the bike that led her to a blue van also parked nearby. 'It was parked. I had the lock around it, cover over it. It wasn't even – you know the bike's not visible but they must have just ridden the van next to it, and just immediately loaded it in," she claimed. 'I'm 100% sure that the chain lock is still there, for sure. It was right in front of the reception. I'd parked it as close as possible to reception.' Article continues below But then – in a stroke of luck, workers from the hotel found her bike hidden in the bushes. Noraly was quick to apologise to the blue van owners. She said: 'I was convinced it was in the blue van. I'm so sorry people from the blue van to accuse you. 'Cause I already looked in the bushes behind but I didn't see it because they hid it. I'm really curious if we're going to see something on the footage of the hotel.' With the help of the hotel staff, Noraly was able to get the bike back down from the bushes, however, it had been damaged. It's numberplate was broken, seat ripped out, damage to the rear view mirrors, and some scratches along with the bike being covered with bushes. Noraly was able to get a clearer view of what happened when the hotel checked their security footage. She explained: 'It turns out, 10 minutes after I parked here yesterday, a guy came on a motorbike, like a little moped…scouting. He rode a few very strange circles, missing all the cameras, so we can't see the plate of that moped nor his face. 'And the at 3.30am in the morning, two guys came and they pushed the bike but because the lock was on the rear wheel they dragged [it] across the pavement, so they left a whole trail of rubber there and then they pushed it around because on the back of those bushes is another parking lot and half an hour later later a van came there.' Noraly added: 'So, 4.00am in the morning, they came there with a van and then changes their mind for whatever reason, maybe they got spooked or something, and then kind of circled back and hid the bike in the bushes but because of the scaffolding that's in front of the hotel, you cant see the faces of the two guys that pushed the bike.' The thieves did manage to get away with the bike's cover, Noraly still had praise for the people of Wales who helped her. 'See, that's the thing right, one bad thing happens, and then you just meet the loveliest people helping you get back on track,' she said 'Like first in the hotel, they were so nice to me, and giving me water and everything, and then now, I got the new license plate for free. Article continues below 'They were like 'No, you don't have to pay we want you to have a good experience in wales', and the next shop where they drilled the holes in the plate and fitted it, they also didn't want to take any payment. So there you go.'
