Suspects say sorry for exploiting minors in Tarlac
'Sobrang laki po ng pagsisis namin. Pinagsisihan po namin to. Hindi na ito mauulit,' one of the suspects told GMA Integrated News in a "24 Oras" report by Marisol Abdurahman.
(We deeply regret this. We regret this. It will not happen again.)
The minors are now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Authorities arrested two sisters for allegedly engaging in online child sex exploitation of their children.
The youngest victim was three months old.
According to NBI director Jaime Santiago, the suspects used the dark web to contact their clients from other countries.
Lawyer Jay-R Perez, agent on the case, said the suspects sometimes took the videos, and there were times they taught sexual acts to the minors.
Santiago said the case stemmed from the arrest of a Swedish national and alleged child-sexual offender in April.
Based on the NBI's information, the suspects earn P200 to P4,000 per video, depending on the acts being done.
The suspect also earns more if it is a live show.

NBI rescues child from online exploitation in Davao Oriental
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday announced the rescue of a minor from exploitation in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental. According to the NBI, the victim was turned over to social workers for supervision and care. The bureau said she was able to identify the facilitators involved in the crime. The operation stemmed from an investigation of an account named 'Ate Bibian' which was supplying child sexual abuse or exploitation materials (CSAEM) to a certain 'Jacky.' Following this information, the agents identified the whereabouts of the victim and launched a rescue operation. The agents also arrested Jacky for violating the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-CSAEM Act. 'The NBI will not stop from its relentless pursuit of providing justice to OSAEC victims and giving them a safer environment,' the NBI said in a statement. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RF, GMA Integrated News

Awra Briguela pens message of gratitude for Vice Ganda
Awra Briguela just graduated from high school and among those she thanked was Vice Ganda, her manager and 'Lovely Muder.' As seen in her Instagram post, Awra wrote her letter on the back of her graduation photo, dedicating her accomplishment to Vice. "Para sa 'yo 'to. Hindi ko 'to mararating kung hindi dahil sa 'yo," Awra said, adding 'Salamat sa walang sawang paniniwala at pagmamahal. Pangako, patuloy akong magsusumikap. Mahal na mahal kita.' Vice Ganda also wrote a message for Awra, addressing her as "My Lovely Dowter." "I've always believed in you! And I'm prouder that you try hard everyday to redeem yourself. I'm just here rooting for you. To more wins, anak ko," Vice said. In the caption, Awra said "every milestone feels better when you know you didn't walk alone." "I love you always and FOREVER, My Lovely Muder," she added. Awra graduated high school from the University of the East this month. Ahead of the ceremony, she proudly showed her grades to Vice and said it was all for her. In 2024, Awra also thanked Vice for being there during difficult times. Awra's accomplishments are hard won, especially after the troubles she went through in 2023, when she was detained by the Makati City Police after her involvement in a brawl. After posting bail, she filed a counter-affidavit in connection with the complaints she faced. — Nika Roque/LA, GMA Integrated News

Taal Lake search for missing sabungeros resumes; local fishers take hit
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has resumed its search for the missing sabungeros in Taal Lake after operations were suspended due to inclement weather. According to Vonne Aquino's '24 Oras' report, PCG technical divers continued with the operations early Sunday but were forced to halt due to sudden downpour. They used a remotely-operating vehicle and an aerial drone to further inspect the search area but yielded no suspicious objects. The local government of Agoncillo, Batangas said the discovery of human remains in the lake—after whistleblower Julie "Dondon" Patidongan pointed to it as the site where the missing sabungeros' bodies were dumped—is affecting the small-scale fisherfolk in the municipality, with public fear driving down demand for tawilis. 'Halos 40% ang binaba ng harvest ng tawilis. Kung konti ang demand, konti rin ang magiging supply,' said Mayor Cinderella Reyes. (The harvest went down by almost 40%. If there is less supply, then there is less demand.) In the town of Talisay, Batangas, fewer fish vendors are selling tawilis, increasing the prices from P80 per kilo to P100 per kilo. Municipal administrator Alfredo Anciato said they are mulling declaring a state of calamity to extend assistance to the affected fishers. 'Sa ngayon, kinukuha namin ang lahat ng data through our municipal agriculture office. Tinatanong namin ang stakeholders kung ano ang epekto sa aming maliliit na mangingisda,' Anciato added. (We are now gathering all data through our municipal agriculture office. We are also asking our stakeholders of the effect to the fisherfolks.) Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, for her part, took to social media to allay fears and to show the public it is safe to consume tawilis. 'Tawilis. Okay. Nothing to worry. With all these issues about our Taal, nothing to worry. Ang Tawilis ay non-carnivorous. Di kumakain ng laman, usually halaman ang kinakain nito,' said Santos. (Nothing to worry. With all these issues about our Taal, nothing to worry. Tawilis are non-carnivorous and they eat plants.) Meanwhile, the Agoncillo municipal government said it is also eyeing the declaration of a state of calamity to repair roads affected by the recent typhoons. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA Integrated News
