Sydney man faces court over crash that left Sunshine Coast grandfather dead
Passionate motorcyclist Allan Henry Scheuber left behind 10 grandchildren and six children, some of whom were riding with him on the day of his death.
Shane Lawrence Jacobs, 54, from Daceyville in Sydney's eastern suburbs, was charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death after the April 10 crash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Police said early investigations indicated a motorbike collided with a Holden Colorado at the intersection of Hunsley Road and Obi Obi Road in the Kidaman Creek area at about 3pm.
Mr Scheuber, from Palmwoods on the Sunshine Coast, was declared dead at the scene.
Mr Jacobs was not injured in the crash, police said at the time.
He appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court in person on Tuesday morning and his bail was continued.
The matter was adjourned to allow prosecutors to prepare a brief of evidence.
Mr Jacobs will not be required to attend in person when the matter returns to court on July 14.
One of Mr Scheuber's sons, Jonathon Scheuber, had been riding with his father on the day of his death, as had one of his brothers and his brother-in-law.
"We'd only just parted ways 10 minutes earlier," Jonathon said.
Riding was a long-time passion for his father, who rode across Vietnam from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi two years ago and the family often attended motorcycle track days together.
Originally from Nambour, Mr Scheuber lived in Palmwoods all of his life and had built up a car restoration business.
He was married to Jonathon's mother Christine for 46 years and the couple retired recently.
"He was a very healthy 70," Jonathon said.
"He wasn't an older, out-of-shape, overweight man.
"He was very healthy, very fit … still very active and still working every day of his life at home and around the house … still travelling."
Jonathon said more than 400 people attended a memorial to celebrate Mr Scheuber's life.
"He was a very kind and very loved guy," Jonathon said.

Man killed after helicopter strikes a bird during flight over NT's north-east Arnhem Land
A man has died after a helicopter he was travelling in collided with a bird, during a flight over the Northern Territory's remote north-east Arnhem Land. Emergency services received reports about 2pm Monday that a helicopter carrying two occupants had made an emergency landing at the Lake Evella airstrip in Gapuwiyak after the aircraft struck a bird. "The impact allegedly caused the bird to fatally strike a 54-year-old male passenger," an NT Police statement said. "The pilot was able to land the aircraft safely and was uninjured." Northern Territory police officers and St John Ambulance paramedics attended the scene and declared the 54-year-old man dead. Police are investigating the "fatal helicopter incident" and will prepare a report for the coroner. The statement said NT WorkSafe and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau had been notified.

A senior Commonwealth Bank executive accused of trying to lure two teenagers for a sexual act has been sacked from his job and had his accounts frozen, a court has been told. Christopher James McCann sat stony-faced in Brisbane Arrests Court on Monday – days after his arrest by NSW detectives at the Sydney Airport terminal – as he applied for bail. Gippsland livestock agent Nathan Gibbon jailed for defrauding exporting companies
A registered West Gippsland livestock agent and auctioneer has been jailed for fraudulently obtaining $234,705 from two export companies after falsely making false claims about the cattle he was selling. On Monday Latrobe Valley County Court sentenced Nathan Gibbon, a well-known businessman from Lardner, to six months' jail. Gibbon has also been ordered to complete an 18-month community corrections order upon his release, which includes 100 hours of unpaid work. During a previous court appearance the 50-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of obtaining property by deception from Australasian Global Exports (AGE) and the Yarra Corporation. He also pleaded guilty to one count of handling stolen goods. The court heard that on four occasions in 2018 and 2019 Mr Gibbon falsely represented that certain cattle had been bred on Gippsland properties and therefore were eligible for export to China. On three occasions Gibbon falsely represented to AGE that the cattle being sold were vendor-bred and fraudulently obtained $209,955 from the company. The court also heard he received $24,750 from Yarra Corporation by falsely representing that 25 cattle were also vendor-bred on a particular property when they were not. Vendor-bred cattle must be born and raised on the farm from which they are being exported, whereas non-vendor bred cattle must reside on the farm for six months before they can be sold overseas. In October 2019 several farms linked with Gibbon were inspected. National vendor declaration books that were used to commit the fraud and bags containing eartags that appeared to have been removed from cattle were found at Gibbon's property, the court heard. The third, unrelated charge related to a stolen CAT skid steer worth $78,000 that was stored in the machinery shed at Gibbon's property. In documents provided to the court police said they found the machine in July 2022 during a search of Gibbon's home. The bobcat had been reported stolen from the CAT rental store at Laverton in May 2020 and at the time had logged seven hours of operation. In an earlier court hearing police said Gibbon had told officers that an individual who had a flat tyre stopped outside his home asked to put the skid steer in his shed. Police also discovered the skid steer had 155 hours of operating time recorded on its digital display. Judge John Lewis said Gibbon had strong character references and was a hard worker whose prospects of rehabilitation were good. But Judge Lewis said it was "striking" that Gibbon was prepared to take "such a risk" by selling "unqualified" cattle for export.
