Air Scare: SpiceJet flight's windowpane dislodges inside!

Hans India03-07-2025
Mumbai: A window frame of SpiceJet's aircraft SG-1080 operating its flight to Pune from Goa was found dislodged mid-air but there was no impact on passengers' safety, the airline said on Wednesday. There was no cabin depressurisation as the outer layers of the windowpane remained intact and passenger safety was not compromised, the airline said in a statement.
The frame was fixed once the aircraft landed at the Pune airport, in accordance with standard maintenance procedures, the airline said. Mandar Sawant, a passenger on the flight, said, 'I was travelling back from Goa to Pune after attending an event. A woman was sitting behind me, and she was with a baby. Half an hour after takeoff, the window (close to her) just popped out. The woman got scared and it was damn concerning. There is a protective layer behind the window that protects us from the elements outside, and it was intact, but it is still concerning.'
He added, 'The flight attendants tried to calm us down, but what else will they even do? They moved the woman and her child to a different seat behind. The stewardess did manage to somewhat get the window back on, but any sudden movement and it probably would have fallen off again.'
The flight, scheduled for 5.20 pm on Tuesday, departed an hour and a half late at 6.55 pm. 'We got to know at the airport that the flight was delayed the previous day as well due to 'technical issues',' said Sawant, and that he did not get any message or update from the airline that the flight was delayed.
A SpiceJet spokesperson shared a statement that said, 'A cosmetic window frame on one of SpiceJet Q400 aircraft became loose during flight and was found dislodged. It is important to note that this was a non-structural trim component, fitted onto the window for the purpose of shade, and did not compromise the safety or integrity of the aircraft in any way. Cabin pressurisation remained normal throughout the flight, and there was no impact on passenger safety.'
'The Q400 aircraft is equipped with multiple layers of windowpanes, including a robust, pressure-bearing outer pane, ensuring that passenger safety is never at risk, even in the unlikely event of a superficial or cosmetic component coming loose,' the spokesperson added.

They're just doing their job, and they deserve courtesy and cooperation like anyone else. Respect those who keep you safe in the skies.' ‘Aircraft rokiye please': Chaos erupts on SpiceJet Delhi to Mumbai flight after AC stops working, video emerges

A SpiceJet flight travelling from Delhi to Mumbai on July 14 was delayed after frustrated passengers created a ruckus due to a lack of air conditioning. The situation escalated after some passengers urged the cabin crew to stop the aircraft from taking off and call security forces. In the now-viral video, a woman passenger is seen speaking to two flight attendants, urging them to turn on the AC as a lack of it can pose health risks. As the video progresses, a man stands up to protest against the situation. 'Bekar hai (it's useless). Jaan ke sath khilwad kar rhe hain yeh log (they are risking our lives). Rok do aap rok do! Aircraft rok do (please stop the aircraft),' he says in the video. 'Ahmedabad wale Air India flight mein bhi yhi hua tha, phle AC chalna band hua tha (This is what happened on Air India flight that took off from Ahmedabad, the air conditioning was not functional),' he adds. The video also captures several passengers fanning themselves. 'Technically there is no AC in flights there are systems that maintain pressure according to the outside environment hence the cool air which makes us think it is AC failure of these systems can make airplane implode too,' a user wrote. 'AC failure mid-flight isn't just about comfort .. it can point to bigger technical faults. After what happened in Ahmedabad, passengers are right to be worried,' another user commented. According to flight-tracking platform Flightradar24, SpiceJet flight S9282 was scheduled to depart at 12.30 pm on July 14 but took off at 7.21 pm and landed at 9.05 pm in Mumbai. SpiceJet later issued a statement confirming the removal of the passengers who tried to enter the cockpit. 'On July 14, 2025, two unruly passengers were offloaded from SpiceJet flight SG 9282 operating from Delhi to Mumbai. The two attempted to approach the cockpit forcefully and caused a disruption while the aircraft was taxiing,' the airline said. The airline added that despite repeated warnings from cabin crew, fellow passengers, and even the captain, the two men refused to comply. 'In the interest of the safety of all passengers and crew, the Captain decided to return the aircraft to the bay, and the passengers were offloaded. They were subsequently handed over to the CISF,' the statement read.

'Incorrect, baseless': SpiceJet denies mid-air plunge on Delhi-Srinagar flight after passenger's claim

SRINAGAR: After a passenger on a Delhi–Srinagar SpiceJet flight on July 12 alleged that the aircraft experienced a sudden free fall near J&K's Banihal Pass, SpiceJet issued a clarification on Monday stating that the flight had encountered a brief patch of turbulence due to prevailing monsoon conditions. Arjimand Talib Hussain, a passenger on SpiceJet flight SG-385, shared a video claiming the aircraft went into a free fall of several hundred metres over Banihal Pass in J&K on July 12. In the 29-second video, which has gone viral on social media, cries of some passengers travelling in the flight can be heard. The passengers can be seen holding aircraft seats tightly, while one of the flight attendants can be seen crawling inside the flight, with the captain making announcements that 'everyone please fasten your seat belts.' In the post on X, the passenger Arjimand Hussain said, 'All my life, I have travelled in all sorts of weathers, across the globe, in hundreds of flights, but have never experienced something like this.' 'G-385 Delhi-Srinagar SpiceJet flight's precarious moments yesterday. The plane dropped several hundred meters in free fall over the Banihal Pass. It felt like the end of life for everyone. It was not a normal turbulence. I have experienced all sorts of those,' he said.
