A pristine 1995 Dodge Viper RT/10 with just 15,000 miles on the odometer is now available at auction, offered at no reserve. This first-generation Viper, a standout in the world of American muscle cars, is in remarkable condition and has been modified for enhanced performance and aesthetics.
Finished in Viper Red with a Quartz leather interior, the car features several upgrades, including a revised exhaust system, smooth air-intake tubes, and an Autoform removable hardtop. It rides on 18-inch BBS Y-spoke wheels and is fitted with Toyo Proxes R888 R tires, adding a more aggressive stance. Additional modifications include 5/8-inch suspension lowering caps and a Pioneer stereo system. The car is powered by the iconic 8.0-liter V10 engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission, which sends 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential.
The Viper RT/10, originally delivered to Lloyd Treadway Chrysler Plymouth Dodge in Findlay, Ohio, is a true example of the Viper's raw performance capabilities. With no reserve price, the car is being offered with the original window sticker, owner's manual, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Arizona title. A soft top, not currently installed, and the original 17-inch three-spoke wheels with Michelin tires are also included.
Known for its bold design, featuring a forward-opening clamshell hood and side-exit exhaust outlets, this Viper retains its classic appearance with slight modifications, such as clear front turn signal lenses. Despite a few scuffs on the underside of the front bumper, the car's overall condition remains superb, and it is a true collector's item for anyone interested in American performance vehicles from the 1990s.

Uber to let women avoid male riders and drivers

Across the U.S., "women riders and drivers have told us they want the option to be matched with other women on trips," Camiel Irving, Uber's VP of U.S. and Canada operations, said Wednesday as the company announced its new feature to allow women to pick women drivers or passengers. File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo July 23 (UPI) -- Uber said Wednesday its new feature will allow women passengers and drivers to avoid being paired with men on the ride-sharing app in a push to enhance safety. Across the United States, "women riders and drivers have told us they want the option to be matched with other women on trips," Camiel Irving, Uber's VP of U.S. and Canada operations, wrote in a release. "We've heard them -- and now we're introducing new ways to give them even more control over how they ride and drive." The pilot program is slated to begin next month in the United States. It will permit and prioritize a woman-to-woman match when they book or pre-book a ride, which can be a new preference in the app's settings. It also will allow a female driver the option to choose only another person of the same gender. Irving says it's about giving women more choice, control and comfort. However, the option is not a guaranteed but does maximize the likelihood of woman-woman pairing. The Uber pilot program will start American operations in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Detroit. It begins in the United States after the feature's trial run in Germany, France and Argentina. "Most drivers are men, so we've worked to ensure this feature was truly usable in different places around the world," Irving added. Uber in 2019 put out its women ride preference in Saudi Arabia after women were granted the right to drive the year prior, which saw the ride feature expanded to roughly 40 other nations. That came after the global ride-sharing company was given a $3.5 billion Saudi investment in 2016. It's among a number of other safety features Uber unveiled in recent years. It comes nearly a year after Uber's competitor Lyft launched its own similar app options for women and nonbinary persons.

NASCAR will hold first street race on active military base at Naval Base Coronado

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR will hold a street race on Naval Base Coronado in Southern California next June as a replacement for its downtown Chicago event that ran the last three years. The move to the San Diego area does not eliminate a return to Chicago, where NASCAR will still maintain an office and effort an eventual return, perhaps as early as 2027. But the shift next year will allow NASCAR to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy by hosting all three of its national series over a three-day weekend on June 19-21. 'As part of our nation's 250th anniversary, we are honored for NASCAR to join the celebration as we host our first street race at a military base, Naval Base Coronado,' Ben Kennedy, executive vice president and chief venue and racing innovations officer, said Wednesday. 'NASCAR San Diego Weekend will honor the Navy's history and the men and women who serve as we take the best motorsports in the world to the streets of Naval Base Coronado.' It will be NASCAR's second street race in the sport's history, following the three-year run in Chicago, and first on an active military base. The course layout is not complete but is expected to be around 3 miles. NASCAR has seen Auto Club Speedway close after the 2023 race. It built a temporary short track inside Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 2002 through 2024 but moved that event to North Carolina. Kennedy, who has been bullish on new endeavors for his family business, was the brains of the races at the Coliseum, Chicago, this year's visit to Mexico City and now next year in San Diego, a venture the Navy is excited about. 'NASCAR embodies the very best of the American spirit through speed, precision and an unyielding pursuit of excellence," Navy Secretary John C. Phelan said. "Hosting a race aboard Naval Air Station North Island, the birthplace of naval aviation, it's not just a historic first, it's a powerful tribute to the values we share: grit, teamwork and love of country. 'From the flight deck to the finish line, this collaboration reflects the operational intensity and unity of purpose that define both the United States Navy and NASCAR." The base is known as the 'West Coast Quarterdeck' and is a consortium of nine Navy installations that stretch from San Clemente Island 50 miles off the coast of Long Beach to the Mountain Warfare Training Facility 50 miles east of San Diego. NASCAR named Amy Lupo, who has been with the series since 2021 and helped launch the Coliseum, as president of the race. She spent more than 20 years at ESPN expanding the X Games when she lived in San Diego early in her career. She still lives in Southern California.

NASCAR announces race on U.S. Naval base in Coronado scheduled for 2026

NASCAR is returning to Southern California, only its cars will be racing on the streets of Coronado and not on an oval in Fontana. The stock car racing circuit announced Wednesday it will be hosting a three-day series of races June 19-21, ending in a NASCAR Cup Series race on the U.S. Naval base in Coronado. NASCAR did not race in Southern California last year for the first time since 1997, with the exception of 2021, when the schedule was hampered by the coronavirus pandemic. For much of that time, the races were held at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana but that track was torn down in 2023 to make room for a giant warehouse complex. NASCAR preserved part of the grandstand and had hoped to built a half-mile oval track on the site but that project has stalled and is unlikely to be revived. NASCAR also raced on a temporary quarter-mile oval on the floor of the Coliseum but that event has also been abandoned. Next summer's Coronado race, which came to fruition after years of careful negotiation, is the first NASCAR event to be run on an active military base, It is being timed to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy and will feature a race weekend including an Xfinity Series race and a Craftsman Truck Series event. NASCAR ran street course races in Chicago's Grant Park from 2023-25 but that event will not return in 2026, making the Coronado race the only street race on the schedule next year. 'NASCAR embodies the very best of the American spirit through speed, precision and an unyielding pursuit of excellence,' Secretary of the Navy John C. Phelan said in a statement. 'Hosting a race aboard Naval Air Station North Island, the birthplace of naval aviation, it's not just a historic first, it's a powerful tribute to the values we share: grit, teamwork and love of country. 'We're proud to open our gates to the American people, honor those who wear the uniform, and inspire the next generation to step forward and serve something greater than themselves.' Naval Base Coronado, known as the West Coast Quarterdeck, is a consortium of nine Navy installations stretching from San Clemente Island, 50 miles off the coast of Long Beach, to the Mountain Warfare Training Facility 50 miles east of San Diego. 'Hosting one of America's premier motorsports events on this historic base reflects our partnership with the local community and our shared pride in the nation's heritage,' said captain Loren Jacobi, commanding officer of Naval Base Coronado. 'We are privileged to showcase the dedication of our sailors alongside NASCAR's finest as we celebrate our 250th anniversary.' The NASCAR San Diego logo features an F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, which is recognized as only being flown by the U.S. Navy. The three stars in the logo signify land, sea, and air, which represents the Navy as the only branch of the military to operate in all three spaces. The arch represents the mission-style architecture found in San Diego. The stripes at the bottom of the logo represent the four largest United States Armed Force branches: Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Navy. Tickets for the 2026 NASCAR San Diego Weekend will go on-sale this fall.
