New halves pairing helps Warriors tame Tigers
The Aucklanders ended a two-game losing streak and some poor form at Go Media Stadium, with new halfback Tanah Boyd stepping up in his club debut, while his partner Chanel Harris-Tavita bagged a double on Sunday.
Boyd joined the Warriors after six seasons with Gold Coast, but has had to bide his time in the NSW Cup.
Having led that side to 11 straight wins to sit atop the ladder, Warriors coach Andrew Webster had no hesitation in calling on the 24-year-old when Luke Metcalf's season was ended by a knee injury.
It proved a smart call to opt for Boyd over Te Maire Martin, who came off the bench late in the first half on Sunday when centre Rocco Berry exited with a shoulder issue.
Coming off an upset win over Sydney Roosters, the Tigers got off to a bright start, with Jeral Skelton scooting across the line in the second minute.
Backing up from Origin, Jarome Luai found Adam Douehi, who fired the ball on to Skelton with a quick catch-and-pass.
The home side then hit the lead with back-to-back tries, scored by Berry and Harris-Tavita.
Douehi, starting in the centres, closed the gap to 12-8 when he crashed through three defenders.
But the Warriors had the final say of the half when winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, in his return from an ankle injury, planted the ball down in the corner in the 33rd minute for an eight-point lead.
That was extended when Boyd combined with Harris-Tavita, who tapped the ball on to Roger Tuiavsa-Sheck.
Douehi, who was the Tigers' best, again powered over the line for his second try of the match, but when Harris-Tavita matched that feat in the 72nd minute the home team had victory wrapped up.
Second-row sensation Leka Halasima, standing out on the wing, then showed his brute strength to ice the win, with Boyd converting from the sideline.

Schmidt says Wallabies must hit the ground running in Melbourne
Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt says his young side must hit the ground running in the second Test to have any chance of keeping the British and Irish Lions series alive. The tourists outgunned Australia 27-19 in their opening clash in Brisbane on Saturday, with the scoreline flattering the hosts. They were slow off the mark, conceding a converted try in the eighth minute, and chased the game for much of the first-half. Another early lapse soon the restart saw them slump 24-5 behind before a gutsy fightback ensured they will take some confidence into Melbourne next weekend. "We've got to keep learning fast and hit the ground running next week. Otherwise it becomes a dead rubber in Sydney," Schmidt said, referring to the third and final Test. "Inevitably you're desperate to keep the series alive and I know that the Lions will want to close it out in Melbourne. So Melbourne is going to be massive for both teams." Schmidt will almost certainly be making changes to his starting XV. Experienced forwards Rob Valetini and Will Skelton are fit again and are in line to replace Nick Champion de Crespigny and either Jeremy Williams or Nick Frost. Australia were also noticeably better in the second-half when scrum-half Tate McDermott came off the bench and Angus Bell was installed at loosehead prop, with a case to be made for their inclusion. "I felt the bench added value when they came on. In that last 20 to 25 minutes, we did get a bit of momentum, and we weren't far away," said Schmidt. But with the Lions battle-hardened after winning all six games of their Australia tour so far, the Wallabies know they must lift their level considerably to have any hope of causing an upset at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. "I do think if we can just improve our accuracy, it will help us to be competitive," said Schmidt. "They've got strength and depth, and they came with a plan that they got the better of us in the first quarter, and we've got to start more strongly next week. "There's very much some of our collision area work has to be better, just because we know they're coming so hard there. "There was a few things in the lineup that I think we can tidy up. Souths cop another season-ending injury in horror year
South Sydney's horror season has gone from bad to worse, with star prop Keaon Koloamatangi to miss the rest of the year with an ankle injury. Easily the Rabbitohs' best player in a disastrous 2025 campaign, Koloamatangi will require surgery on his syndesmosis after being hurt in Friday's loss to Penrith. His injury will leave him in an overflowing South Sydney casualty ward, that includes Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker, Cameron Murray and Brandon Smith. The front-rower's injury comes as the club - stuck close to the bottom of the ladder after seven straight losses - battles to avoid a first wooden spoon since 2006. Making matters worse for the Rabbitohs is news that hooker Peter Mamouzelos will also miss Saturday's clash with Cronulla due to a concussion. The Rabbitohs' season had appeared cursed from the moment Murray and Mitchell went down with serious injuries within minutes of each other at training in February. Mitchell missed the first four rounds with a hamstring tear, and has managed only 10 games for the Rabbitohs this season before his latest shoulder issue. Murray, meanwhile, has not played a game all year after a pre-season ruptured achilles tendon. Walker has only played eight games, Campbell Graham 11, Tyrone Munro seven and mid-season recruit Smith re-injured his knee on return from an ACL rupture. Mikaele Ravalawa, Jayden Sullivan and Davvy Moale are among other Rabbitohs players currently sidelined. It comes as Wayne Bennett is fighting to avoid his worst finish in 38 years of coaching in the premiership, having never ended a season lower than 13th on the ladder.

George Ford proud of his side as England complete tour clean sweep
Captain George Ford said he was proud of his young England colleagues after they completed a clean sweep of victories on their summer tour. A much-changed England side shrugged off two lengthy delays caused by lightning to beat the United States 40-5 in Washington DC on the back of a 2-0 series win in Argentina. Curtis Langdon, Luke Northmore, Cadan Murley, Jack van Poortvliet, Harry Randall and Gabriel Oghre, one of six debutants, grabbed England's six tries with Ford landing four conversions with one from another new face, Charlie Atkinson. 'The boys have been unbelievable all tour. They deserve that tonight,' said Ford, who won his 102nd cap. 'It is a proud moment for the families, so we will celebrate. 'There has been a lot of hard work and the conditions were difficult tonight. 'We have won all three games, we have had six new caps, I am proud of the effort of everyone.' After kick-off at Audi Field was delayed due to an electrical storm in the American capital, England seized control when the Eagles were reduced to 14 by a deliberate knock-on from outside-half Chris Hilsenbeck. Langdon was the beneficiary of a driving line-out for the first score and then new boy Max Ojomoh slipped in fellow centre Northmore for a simple score under the posts.
