Bus driver charged over fatal collision
A Transperth bus driver has been charged after he fatally struck a pedestrian outside of Perth Arena.
A 45-year old man died when he was hit by a bus crossing Wellington St near the Milligan St intersection just after 6.15pm on Friday.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics but could not be saved.
The bus driver has been charged with careless driving causing death and will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on July 18.
Inspector Vic Hussey told 9News it was a confronting scene.
'It's a very, very sad scene here at the moment,' he said.
Witnesses said the driver appeared distressed and was unable to speak in the immediate aftermath of the collision, while others nearby were seen crying on the street.
The crash occurred as hundreds of people were arriving at the arena to watch a Super Netball clash between the West Coast Fever and Adelaide Thunderbirds, and as city workers were leaving their offices for the day.
Residents have since raised concerns about pedestrian safety at the intersection.
'It's not nice, especially when it's so close to home, and when it's something that could have been avoided,' one resident said.
'I raised this with the police about two months ago because I almost got killed.'

Grim scenes in quiet residential street
A quiet residential street in Melbourne's northwest has been cordoned off after a man was arrested and police discovered human remains believed to be that of missing man Joshua Bishop, who disappeared a month ago. Sunbury man Joshua Bishop, 23, was last seen by his housemates in Lalor Crescent about 9.30pm May 27. He was reported missing two days later on May 29 by his mother. Police launched an investigation into the man's disappearance, which they said was 'completely out of character' and 'suspicious'. On Saturday, police completed a search warrant of a home in Erinbank Crescent in Westmeadows in Melbourne's northwest, where they discovered human remains. The remains are yet to be formally identified, though police believe they are of the missing Sunbury man. Police later arrested a 27-year-old Westmeadows man, who will be taken to a police station to be interviewed. No charges have been laid. The grisly discovery was made approximately 32km from the missing man's Sunbury home. A crime scene has been established by police, with officers from the Major Crime Scene Unit attending as they process the scene. The front yard of the Westmeadows property was cordoned off with police tape while officers examined the scene. Forensic officers were later seen wheeling his remains out of the house before loading it into the police vehicle, flanked by forensic officers, police and paramedics. Mr Bishop had never been reported missing before and was not known to police. His phone and bank accounts had not been accessed since May 27, and his phone last pinged at Broadmeadows Valley Park on Barry Rd. Police conducted a search of the park on June 6 but returned 10 days later for a renewed search. His heartbroken mother Kristie urged the public for any information, telling 9News his disappearance was 'definitely out of character'. 'Josh was really open with me. We had a really good relationship,' she said. 'This is not something he would do unless he felt he had to.' On social media, dad Travis pleaded for the safe return of his son. 'My heart is broken, please complete my family and bring my boy home,' he wrote. 'I'd give everything to have you in my arms.' He told 9News his son was 'loved by everyone' and urged anyone with information to come forward. 'Someone has to know something,' he told the outlet. 'We've had a lot of support, but we still haven't got any closer to our son, which is hard.' Relatives have set up a GoFundMe page to assist in the search for the missing man, which has since raised over $15,000. 'Our beloved Josh is missing, and our family is doing everything we can to bring him home safely,' the fundraiser read. 'Every moment that passes without answers is incredibly difficult, but we remain determined to keep searching until we find him.'

Man's alleged attack on female paramedic
Police have charged a man who allegedly threatened and punched a young female paramedic in Sydney's east. Emergency services were called to the intersection of Bunnerong Rd and Daunt Ave in Matraville about 3.50pm Friday after reports of a concern for welfare. Paramedics were called to the scene to treat a 66-year-old intoxicated man, who was put in an ambulance to be taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital. While sitting in the ambulance, the man allegedly threatened a 24-year-old female paramedic before assaulting her. Police allege he punched the paramedic in the torso and the arms. 'The 24-year-old paramedic did not require treatment,' a police statement read. Police immediately assisted by taking the man to hospital under police guard. He was treated at the hospital and taken to Mascot Police Station, where he was charged with assault front line health worker no actual bodily harm. He was refused bail and is set to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday June 28.

Greens candidate undergoes surgery after protest arrest
A Greens candidate who challenged Anthony Albanese at the May federal election is in hospital after being arrested at a protest, as police face brutality claims. Five people were arrested while protesting Israel's war in Gaza outside an Australian firm linked to the manufacturing of fighter jets used by the IDF. Hannah Thomas, 35, who was the Greens candidate for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's seat of Grayndler, was taken to hospital with facial injuries suffered in the process of her arrest. A photo of Ms Thomas in an ambulance shows her eye swollen shut and with blood on her face before she was taken for surgery. Video of the incident shows multiple police dragging one of the protesters as on-lookers repeatedly shouted "get off her" and "let go of her". Police said matters escalated after officers issued a move-on direction to a group of 60 protesters who had blocked pedestrian access to SEC Plating in Belmore in Sydney's southwest early Friday morning. They said Ms Thomas was arrested for not complying with that direction. NSW Greens MP Sue Higginson labelled the policing "excessive" and "unnecessary" and called for an investigation "to avoid further horrific instances of innocent people being seriously injured". She has written to Police Minister Yasmin Catley, the NSW police commissioner and the state's police watchdog demanding the investigation. "Having witnessed the grievous injuries caused by the police to Hannah Thomas, spoken to on ground witnesses who witnessed what occurred, and with the knowledge that Hannah has experienced serious injuries and hospitalisation, I am calling for a critical incident to be declared urgently," Ms Higginson wrote in her letter. Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi said Ms Thomas had been a "tireless advocate" for the tens of thousands of people killed in Palestine.
