SPFL side slam their own fans for 'embarrassing the club' after pyro halts FIRST competitive match of league season

ARBROATH have urged their fans to help them find two individuals who they say "embarrassed the club" by throwing pyro onto the pitch during the very first competitive match of the SPFL season The Gayfield side unfurled the League One title flag on Friday night against Ayr Utd as they put in an accomplished display in a 1-1 draw against Scott Brown's Championship promotion hopefuls. It was captured live on BBC - with SPFL chief executive in attendance. League bosses are cracking down more closely than in recent seasons on pyrotechnics offences - particularly when stoppages are caused to live broadcasts. Celtic, Aberdeen and Partick Thistle were all served with notices of complaint for their fans' use of pyro in games at the end of last season - and it could cost the clubs ticket allocations at Hampden in future matches. Arbroath released a stinging response online, asking fans to shop their fellow supporters, and saying they're not the kind of fans they want at their matches going forward. They wrote: "We would like to thank over 1000 Lichties who attended Gayfield Park to support the team tonight - and we continue to value your support week in, week out as the league progresses. "However, we had two individuals throw burning pyrotechnic devices above our fans' heads in a confined space, which then landed on the pitch, damaging our playing surface while putting our fans, stewards and the players at severe safety risk. "Therefore it is within Arbroath FC's best interests to hold those accountable for their actions, as we strive for our stadium to be a safe place to attend. "To the two individuals - you have not only embarrassed yourselves, you have embarrassed the club within the community, on national television and in front of SPFL delegates. "This is not a fair representation of our club, and absolutely not the impression we wish to give on our return to the championship. Shocking moment Celtic fan's hair set on FIRE after wild pyro display at Hibs game "The current law on pyrotechnics is clear, they are forbidden within stadiums. The club has to follow the SPFL's unacceptable conduct rules, which highlights the possession and discharge of pyrotechnics - in which we as a club must demonstrate an appropriate response. "At this time we ask anyone that can identify the two individuals that have harmed our club and potential supporters to come forward to we can remove these types of individuals from our ground. "These are not the type of individuals we seek support from as they have demonstrated a clear lack of respect for our club, fans, players and safety of all." And incredibly, it's claimed the former Hoops star is one of FOUR members of the same team who are involved with the same woman, who is said to be the daughter of a businessman linked to the club. But the blonde fan in question, as quoted in various outlets, alleges that the player arrived at the meeting point in an Amarok V6 pickup truck with things "quickly escalating to kissing and sexual conversations in the car". It's a scandal which has rocked Brazil in recent days, with Internacional even attempting to laugh it off with a social media post which read: "Whether by bus, van, or Amarok, grab three more friends and come to Beira-Rio!" Bernabei signed for the Hoops from from Argentine side Lanus in 2022 for £3.75m and was expected to potentially dislodge Greg Taylor from the left-back slot. But after only 28 appearances in just under two full seasons at Parkhead he was sent on loan to Internacional in Brazil, where his performances earned a permanent deal with a fee in the region of £5m in January. He's become a massive hero with the club's fans - but this report could put that reputation at risk. It's claimed that the woman in question reached out to Bernabei's wife with an Instagram message after the incident. Backed up by screenshots of social media messages apparently exchanged between the pair, a report first aired in Portal LeoDias reads: "According to reports and screenshots obtained by our team, the Argentine player allegedly cheated on his wife with a blonde fan in an extramarital encounter on July 10th at a gas station in the south zone of Porto Alegre. It adds: "According to the woman, Bernabei used Instagram's temporary mode to automatically delete conversations between the two, in an attempt to avoid any kind of recording. "The meeting place was chosen because it was private, away from the city's hustle and bustle, and the player arrived at the meeting point in an Amarok V6 pickup truck. Shock scenes as Celtic and Ajax fans clash during Como Cup friendly tournament in Italy "In her account, the fan claims that the atmosphere between the two quickly escalated to kissing and sexual conversations in the car. "She also points out that Bernabei maintains contact with other women and acts deliberately to keep his wife's attention away." The woman in question is quoted as telling reporters: "I could tell: he wasn't just mine. This guy is a jerk. He's chatting with several women, exchanging messages with other women, fans." "He completely disregards his wife's suspicions. He denies it to the end, puts on a saintly front, and plays the victim." She claims that Bernabei promised to do it again, saying: 'I went to get out of the car and he pulled me back to kiss me some more and said he was going to call me to see me again. She added: "I even told [his wife], Look I'm sorry, I made a mistake with you. "I'm coming here to tell you all this, I made a mistake but I'm telling you this." 4 The woman contacted Benabei's wife Credit: Portal LeoDias "I ended up regretting it but she didn't believe me and that was it. I ave a boyfriend but I had a fight with him, we weren't together at the time. It wasn't a matter of me cheating. "People are judging me, saying I wanted fame. The last thing I want is that. I don't want to be seen. I don't want anyone to know my name. I'm coming here precisely because I wasn't the only one." Bernabei has shared numerous snaps of himself with his partner on social media, writing: 'The most sacred thing: family!!!' Back in August 2023, he was fined £1,875 after he was found to be driving when more than twice over the limit. He was picked up by cops in Glasgow city centre after the Hoops' 5-0 win at Kilmarnock with 48 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 22 micrograms. Five Celtic fans slapped with Italian stadium bans for 'provoking opposition' by waving Palestine flags

There were unsavoury scenes behind the goal as both sets of fans became embroiled in an ugly row Como's police chief has slapped five Italian-based Celtic fans with stadium bans totalling eight years for 'provoking opposition fans' by waving the Palestinian flag. ‌ The Hoops' opening Como Cup clash against Ajax on Thursday was overshadowed by ugly clashes between both fans as Brendan Rodgers' side crashed to a 5-1 defeat. ‌ Flashpoints flared in the stands after Palestinian flags were unfurled in the Celtic end and now the city's police chief has come down hard with a no-nonsense response. ‌ Como police commissioner Marco Calì confirmed five Hoops fans based in nearby Lecco have been handed lengthy bans from all Italian stadiums. And while he insisted it wasn't the flag itself that sparked the punishment, he claims the behaviour crossed the line. Calìsaid: "The bans for the Celtic fans were issued for provocation, not for the Palestinian flag itself. "Despite the utmost respect for the suffering of a people, the stadium is a place with rules. And failure to comply with them, obviously, has consequences. "The rules on what can be brought into a stadium during a football match include a strict ban on bringing symbols, banners, or flags with political overtones. This is because the stadium is a sporting venue. "The central issue was their behaviour during the match. They came down from the stands and approached the Dutch fans, who were very calm, with the sole intent of provoking. ‌ "Their behaviour was gratuitous and provocative, and we must say, we cannot accept this because it risks inflaming tempers. "The stadium is a place with rules. And these impose on the authorities the obligation to intervene if symbols with political connotations, not football-related ones, are brought inside. "But I reiterate, the bans were not because of the Palestinian flag." ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
