Data Centre Investment Surges To RM144.4 Bln By March 2025 -- MITI
KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- From 2021 to March 31, 2025, Malaysia recorded 25 approved investment projects in the data centre sector, with a total investment value of RM144.4 billion.
According to records from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), MITI said these projects were approved under the Digital Ecosystem Acceleration Scheme (DESAC) and are expected to create high-skilled, high-income jobs.
'These investments are projected to generate 1,429 new jobs, with roles requiring specialised expertise such as engineers, data scientists, big data analysts, cybersecurity engineers, and information technology (IT) engineers.
'Over 50 per cent of these roles will be high-income jobs, offering salaries of more than RM5,000,' MITI said in a written reply published on Parliament's website today.
The ministry was responding to a question from Aminolhuda Hassan (PH–Sri Gading), who asked MITI to detail job opportunities arising from the expanding data centre sector and the potential economic and labour market impacts.
On that front, the ministry said it will carry out a survey to assess the economic spillover effects of the data centre industry.
'MITI has identified several key parameters for data collection across four main segments in the data centre ecosystem.
'These include data centre companies and operators; major tech firms and content providers; telecommunications and mobile network operators; and equipment suppliers and service providers within the data centre industry,' it said.
In addition, MITI noted that several leading global tech companies have committed to creating around 67,000 direct and indirect jobs, mainly in the IT sector and related supply chains, once their projects are fully implemented.

Government complex goes solar: RM71,000 savings yearly

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Federal Government Administrative Complex (KPKPS) achieved a milestone by becoming the first Federal Government building in the State to operate on large-scale green solar energy. Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Seri Rosli Isa said the completed project will deliver substantial savings in electricity costs while promoting sustainable solar energy usage throughout Sabah. 'This is a major achievement in government building management landscape,' Rosli said during the project handover ceremony on Tuesday. 'With the completion of the 1-Megawatt solar system installation, the KPKPS has become the first Federal Government building in Sabah to utilise green solar energy at this scale,' he said. The project was realised through a one-off allocation of RM6 million from the Ministry of Economy, channelled through the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority. The Works Ministry's Facilities Management Division served as the implementing agency, while field implementation was handled by concessionaire Kombinasi Saudagar Sdn Bhd. The eight-month installation, which began in October 2024, is expected to generate impressive financial returns. The system is projected to reduce monthly electricity bills by up to RM71,000, contributing to total savings of RM4.26 million over five years. Beyond cost savings, the project significantly contributes to Malaysia's environmental goals. Rosli said the initiative aligns with the Government's Renewable Energy Technology Policy and aims to reduce carbon footprint while supporting national development toward a greener, cleaner and more resilient future. 'The design is not only practical but also shows our commitment to environmentally friendly technology. 'This investment in green technology proves that sustainable approaches can generate viable economic returns,' he said. Maritime agency puts up RM1mil to develop Trong village
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has allocated RM1mil to develop Kampung Temerlok in Trong, near Taiping in Perak, under its Madani Adopted Village programme. MMEA director-general Admiral (Maritime) Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said the agency's efforts now extended beyond maritime security, with renewed focus on uplifting inland rural communities. 'Our role goes beyond safeguarding the seas. 'We are also committed to serving the people through community-based programmes and targeted outreach efforts,' he told Bernama. The initiative, funded by the Finance Ministry, supports five key projects including repairs to the Sungai Tok Lin jetty, a vital economic lifeline for local fishermen. Other improvements include roof repairs at Al-Mahmudiah religious school, upgrades at the flood relief centre in SK Temerlok, maintenance and repair works at Masjid Al-Mahmudiah as well as cleaning of the mosque grounds and the nearby Muslim cemetery. The mosque also received two air-conditioning units, installed in its meeting room. Mohd Rosli said the agency had previously donated three cows for Aidiladha, with meat distributed to 200 residents. More than 150 MMEA personnel joined villagers in a gotong-royong to clean the village, mosque and cemetery.
