Ashraful tried to forcefully break the glass partition in an apparent attempt to exit the terminal.
Mohammad Ashraful, a Bangladeshi national en route from Singapore to Dhaka, was arrested at Kolkata Airport after attempting to break a glass barrier during a layover. Ashraful, who did not possess an Indian visa, was restricted to the international transit area and was not authorised to enter India.
The Kolkata International Airport's terminal is designed with secure glass enclosures that prevent passengers from leaving the transit zone without following proper international transfer procedures.
Despite this, around noon on Friday, Ashraful tried to forcefully break the glass partition in an apparent attempt to exit the terminal.
Authorities remain unclear about his motive for trying to enter Kolkata without a visa. Following his arrest, Ashraful was questioned, and his responses raised suspicions, leading to his detention for further interrogation. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Pak court sentences Punjab farmer to jail, orders deportation to India after it

1 2 Bathinda: Twenty-three-year-old Punjab farmer Amritpal Singh , who had inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory from his fields on Zero Line, has been sentenced to a month's imprisonment each under two offences and fined Rs 50,000 for each offence by a court in Chunian, Pakistan. Non-payment of fines will keep him in Pakistan prison for 15 days more on each count. Both sentences will run concurrently. Amritpal is lodged in Kasur district jail. The court also wrote to the Pakistan ministry of interior to arrange for his deportation to India after completion of sentence. The farmer's family in Khere Ke Uttar village of Ferozepur, right next to the Pakistan border, is praying for his safe return. Amritpal is married and has an infant son. Amritpal's father Jagraj Singh told TOI that he has got the Pakistan court's conviction papers and the letter to the interior ministry to deport him. "I am writing to Indian authorities to ensure Amritpal is deported upon completion of his sentence without any delay," he said. The Rs 1-lakh fine in Pakistan currency works out to nearly Rs 31,000 in India. Jagraj Singh said he will seek clarity from the govt as to who will pay the fine and how. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "We will ensure my son does not have to spend 15 more days in jail for failing to pay the fine," he said. Farmers who have land across the border fence in what's known as Zero Line between India and Pakistan have to sign in and out at a BSF checkpost every day. Amritpal signed in on June 21 at Rana Panjgrian border post and didn't sign out. BSF officers found footsteps leading across the border and realised he had inadvertently entered Pakistan. His panic-stricken family approached police and district officials. It was on June 27 that Pakistan Rangers confirmed to BSF that Amritpal was in custody of Pakistan Police. After that, Jagraj Singh reached out to various authorities, including Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria, to ensure the safe return of his son. Ferozepur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya met BSF DG Daljit Singh Chawdhary. While Indian authorities tapped official channels to get him back, Pakistan police filed a chargesheet alleging that Amritpal entered Pakistan territory around 4.15pm on June 21 without visa. This is an offence punishable under Section 4 of The Pakistan (Control of Entry) Act 1952 — though wrongly mentioned in the FIR as section 3 of The Pakistan (Control of Entry) Act 1952 and Section 14 of The Foreigner Act 1946. On July 28, the court of civil judge class-1, Nasar Mehmood Gondal, convicted Amritpal. His family and Indian officials are trying to ensure that they get him back safely on the completion of his one-month jail term. Dera castration case: CBI court allows witness to depose via video conferencing

Chandigarh: In a significant development in the alleged castration case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh , and two medicos, special CBI magistrate of Panchkula allowed cross-examination of the complainant, a castrated sadhu and prime witness of the case, through video conferencing on Saturday. Special CBI magistrate Anil Kumar Yadav issued a 20-page order allowing the application moved by the prime witness through his counsel and directed the federal agency to coordinate with the ministry of external affairs about arrangements for video conferencing. As per the order, the date is to be finalised within one month. The agency was also directed to ensure safety of the prime witness by arranging the place and other particulars in consultation with the Consulate General of India in the USA. The order issued on Saturday read, "Officer of CBI is directed to approach the ministry of external affairs for taking assistance of the Indian Consulate in USA and to ensure availability of a secure place there for recording of evidence at a predetermined time in compliance of Rule 5.3, Volume-V, Chapter-I-H of our Hon'ble High Court. However, if such a facility is not available in the Embassy, any other place which can be determined/fixed by authorities of the Indian Consulate to ensure the integrity of deposition. " The court added that the investigating officer/holding investigating officer would intimate the court within one month about the date fixed by the office of the Indian Consulate in consultation with the witness concerned and IO/HIO. The prime witness and the victim/complainant is currently residing in the US. He has applied for asylum there in apprehension of a life threat due to the case and his role as complainant against the dera head and two other doctors. The cause of action dates back to the year 2014, when the Punjab and Haryana high court directed CBI to register a case against Dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Dr M P Singh and Dr Pankaj Garg, for allegedly castrating over 400 sadhus of the Dera. Investigation was launched and the CBI filed a chargesheet before the Special CBI magistrate, Panchkula. After recording the statement of the prime witness and complainant for three days in 2019, the case was under stay. Now, the court has resumed hearing with cross-examination of witnesses. Meanwhile, the complainant relocated to the US and moved court to get him cross-examined through video conferencing. While CBI endorsed the demand, defence counsels opposed the plea on certain grounds, including that the victim fled from the country without obtaining permission from court and was trying to strengthen his case for asylum in the USA, even though he went on a visitor visa. 7 Nepali women rescued from human traffickers

Kolkata: A team of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) officers rescued seven Nepali women, including a minor, from alleged human traffickers at Panitanki Market near Border Pillar 90 on Friday evening. Initial investigation revealed that the traffickers had created fake Indian IDs for these women and had promised them lucrative jobs in Hong Kong. The quick response team of the 41st Battalion's 'C' Company apprehended two suspects — one from Darjeeling and another from Nepal — following a tip. They were caught just 150 metres from the international border around 5pm. SSB sources said the traffickers charged Rs 3 lakh per person for arranging travel documents and transportation to Hong Kong. "The suspects were planning to obtain Aadhaar, PAN cards and passports for these women using forged documents," said a senior SSB official. The rescued women, aged between 16 and 21 years, were all from Sankhuwasabha district in Nepal.
