An Indian-origin Delta Airlines co-pilot was arrested 10 minutes after he arrived at San Francisco International Airport on charges of child sexual assault.
The accused, 34-year-old Rustom Bhagwagar from Florida, was taken into custody by federal agents directly from the cockpit of the aircraft he had just helped land.
The sudden arrest left both passengers and crew members stunned, with many confused by the dramatic turn of events unfolding right after touchdown.
Here's what exactly happened.

Delta co-pilot's dramatic arrest
The case against Rustom Bhagwagar had been quietly building for months. Officials say detectives from the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Investigation Division first launched their probe in April 2025, following a report of child sexual abuse.
As their investigation progressed, Bhagwagar, identified as a commercial airline pilot, became a suspect. A Ramey arrest warrant was issued, allowing officers to detain him before any formal charges were filed by a prosecutor.
Authorities soon learned that Bhagwagar was scheduled to co-pilot a flight into San Francisco International Airport on the evening of Saturday, July 26. That flight, Delta Flight 2809 from Minneapolis, landed around 9:35 p.m. after a delayed second approach due to thick fog.

That's when law enforcement made their move.
Passengers on board were left stunned as the dramatic arrest unfolded right in front of them.
Eyewitnesses described the moment as 'shocking and unnerving.' Within moments of the plane landing, multiple law enforcement officers, including Homeland Security Investigations agents and air marshals, boarded the aircraft.

At least 10 armed officials quickly moved down the aisle and entered the cockpit, where they arrested Bhagwagar in plain sight of passengers.
'They stormed the cockpit, cuffed the co-pilot, walked him down the aisle, and ushered him off the plane through the cabin doors between first and coach,' a passenger told The San Francisco Chronicle via email.
Even the other pilot appeared visibly shaken and confused, reportedly telling passengers he had 'no idea what just happened.'
Who is Rustom Bhagwagar?
The man at the centre of this case is Rustom Bhagwagar, a 34-year-old Indian-origin co-pilot with Delta Air Lines. His last known address is in San Ramon, Texas, although he is reportedly from Florida.
Bhagwagar was booked on five counts of oral copulation with a child under 10 years old. He is currently being held at the Martinez Detention Facility, with bail set at $5 million.

According to Fox KTVU, the charges stem from allegations that Bhagwagar sexually abused a girl over a five-year period, from when she was six until she turned eleven. He was allegedly in a relationship with the child's mother during that time.
Even more disturbing, the girl told investigators that her mother knew about the abuse and was sometimes present when it occurred.
Delta Airlines has since responded to the arrest with a strongly worded statement. In a comment to CBS News, the airline said it was 'appalled by charges related to the [pilot's] arrest.'
Speaking to Fox KTVU, a Delta spokesperson added: 'Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful conduct and will fully cooperate with law enforcement.'
The statement also confirmed that Bhagwagar has been suspended pending an internal investigation.

'Arrest Mohan Bhagwat': Ex-ATS Officer Drops Bombshell On Fake Saffron Terror Plot | Malegaon Blast In a staggering twist, a retired ATS officer has shaken the political landscape by claiming he was instructed to arrest RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat during the 2008 Malegaon blast probe. Speaking after the acquittal of all accused, including BJP MP Pragya Thakur, ex-Inspector Mehiboob Mujawar alleged that the saffron terror narrative was a fabrication, driven by political pressure. He described the directives as "horrific" and claims he refused to follow them, leading to his career's destruction via a false case. His allegations bring the focus sharply back to the credibility of terror investigations under UPA, and raise serious questions about the weaponisation of law enforcement. Opposition parties are now demanding answers, warning that faith in national security agencies is at risk. With claims of planted evidence, suppressed truths, and institutional vendetta, this case has reignited the saffron vs secular firestorm in Indian politics, and it's far from over.#malegaonblastcase, #mohanbhagwat, #mehiboobmujawar, #rsschiefcontroversy, #saffronterordebate, #pragyasinghthakur, #ltcolpurohit, #niacourtverdict, #faketerrorcharges, #atsinvestigation, #maharashtraats, #politicalvendetta, #antirssnarrative, #bjpvscongress, #indianjudiciary, #falseterrorcases, #nationalinvestigationagency, #indianpolitics, #judicialacquittal, #malegaoncaseacquittal, #hindutvanarrative, #2008malegaonblast #breakingnews #trending #bharat #toi #toibharat #indianews 2.8K views | 1 day ago

ED will visit Khotkar's home for 3rd time, says Gorantyal

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Within a day of joining BJP, Jalna's former three-time MLA Kailash Gorantyal claimed that the Enforcement Directorate had twice visited Shiv Sena's five-time MLA Arjun Khotkar's residence, and the ED is expected to visit him for a third time in the Dhule cash seizure case. When contacted, Gorantyal confirmed his statement and said he felt compelled to respond after Khotkar began making personal comments about him during a live debate. "Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, as well as deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, had pulled him up due to the Dhule cash seizure case. The ED is going to visit his house due to the Dhule case." In May 2023, Rs 1.8 crore in cash was discovered in room 102 of a govt guest house, booked under the name of Khotkar's personal assistant. This incident occurred during a legislature estimates committee visit to Dhule. Khotkar, a member of this influential committee, was implicated in the matter by Sena (UBT) politician Anil Gote. Subsequently, CM Fadnavis formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the corruption allegations, and the Dhule police registered a non-cognisable offence regarding the seizure of unaccounted cash. Gorantyal also said he joined BJP after being impressed by Operation Sindoor carried out by Indian forces against Pakistan, the Make in India initiative, and advancements in the defence sector. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Having left Congress after over three decades, Gorantyal is credited with coining the slogan 'Pannas Khoke, Ekdum Okay', alleging that Rs 50 crore were taken by each of the Shiv Sena MLAs for switching sides to Eknath Shinde. "Unlike others, I did not switch over to BJP on the assurance of an assembly election ticket or fearing consequences of any ill-doing. Instead, I promised CM Fadnavis of giving them BJP's first mayor for Jalna municipal corporation," said Gorantyal. Despite repeated attempts, Khotkar could not be reached for his comments on the issue. However, sources said that MLA Khotkar will raise the issue with deputy CM and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde.
