Surprising restaurant chain claims the title as America's margarita king

Daily Mail28-05-2025
Chili's holds the title of America's margarita king after pulling off ' the best comeback of all time.'
Margaritas are the top-selling cocktail in the US, and Chili's sells more than any other restaurant brand nationwide.
Last year alone, it sold more than 25 million margaritas.
Chief marketing officer (CMO) George Felix revealed its iconic margaritas are an important part of the restaurant chain while speaking with Marketing Dive.
The beverages also inspired Chili's to walk on the creative side and create a rom-com short film with Lifetime titled 'I'll Be Home for National Margarita Day.'
The movie, starring Taye Diggs and Maria Menounos, premiered less than a week before National Margarita Day in February.
Chili's also celebrated its fan-favorite Presidente Margarita by releasing a music video as part of its 'Ride the Dente' campaign with Spire Motorsports.
The chain is a frequent Talladega Superspeedway sponsor, and it brought a margarita shaker-shaped mechanical bull to a NASCAR event last month.
'It's fun to see the NASCAR audience really get to experience the true meaning of Ride the 'Dente,' Felix said.
'We think that reaching the NASCAR audience with the country music approach seemed like a great fit.'
The CMO hinted the brand is currently thinking of ideas for next year's National Margarita Day, and hopes the Lifetime partnership 'spurs more celebrations of a really important holiday.'
Until then, Chili's is busy advertising its Radical 'Rita, a limited-time beverage, and May's margarita of the month.
The brand recruited 90s icon Tiffani Thiessen to help promote the newest margarita, available for $6 at participating locations until Saturday.
Thiessen rose to fame for her role as Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell.
'Everyone knows me from my days on America's favorite '90s sitcom, but what they might not know is that I also love a great margarita — and some of my favorite early memories with my husband were made at Chili's,' she said.
'Chili's really knows how to tap into the spirit of such an iconic decade — one I'm especially fond of — with their Radical 'Rita.'
Chili's named its new Radical 'Rita this month's margarita of the month. The drink will be available for $6 until May 31
With May wrapping up, Chili's is expected to name its newest margarita of the month shortly.
Chili's margarita boom comes after its stunning earnings hike.
The restaurant chain has seen a surge in customers since last year and not followed in the footsteps of competition that's filed for bankruptcy.
Chili's is also one of many companies that offer music and free Wi-Fi in restaurants, two things experts claim are fueling the chain's comeback.
Its competitors have not been so lucky.
Applebee's shuttered nearly 100 locations between 2023 and 2024, with 35 being closed last year.
TGI Fridays has been getting slaughtered financially and now has less than 100 US restaurants after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November.
These restaurants, along with recent filers Hooters and On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, are known for offering fan-favorite drink deals year-round similar to Chili's.

Courtney Stodden feels the burn as she celebrates sobriety

Courtney Stodden has shared a sunburned selfie as she marks one week of sobriety. The 30-year-old reality TV star said she's proud of her progress in staying clean, looks forward to week two. She wrote: 'Sober journey, healing, summertime, calm.' Courtney also showed off her fresh red sunburn from a day by her swimming pool in Calabasas. 'This is your reminder to use SPF,' she added in her caption. The former child bride was modeling a skimpy light purple string bikini that left little to the imagination. It comes after she talked about how her much-older first husband Doug Hutchison - a 65-year-old actor whom she calls her former 'groomer' - got her started on drinking when she was young. The Washington native said he would drink 'bottle and bottles of alcohol' a day and pushed her to drink too so he could 'control' her. But these days Stodden does not want to feel 'out of control,' so she is staying away from the booze. The cover girl also noted many of her friends are not happy that she has decided to be sober as they won't know what to do with a 'healthy' Courntey. But she has no plans to star drinking again just to please her pals. 'If people don't get it, then maybe they shouldn't be around,' said Courtney, who wore a beige bra with two Van Cleef & Arpels necklaces. The caption read: 'The painful truth.' Earlier this week she told she is 'very happy with the decision' as she works on her 'sobriety journey and overall health.' 'Giving up alcohol also helps with my mental health,' Courtney, who has recently signed on for a new Lifetime biopic, said. 'I feel better without it.' The wife of movie producer Jared Safier then explained she had reached for booze when she felt stressed by fame. 'Alcohol was my escape for years, but it turned into a trap,' she said. 'I used it to survive trauma, but it ended up making me feel more lost and ashamed. 'This breakup isn't just with a substance - it's with a version of myself I'm ready to leave behind. 'At some point, blacking out stopped being cute. I used alcohol to deal with pain, but all it did was make things messier - and make me louder in all the wrong ways. 'I'm finally cutting ties. Alcohol and I? Total toxic ex energy.' More Americans are abstaining from alcohol consumption. This trend is particularly noticeable among younger adults, who are increasingly embracing a 'sober curious' lifestyle, according to Time magazine. Taking charge: These days Courtney does not want to feel 'out of control,' so she is staying away from the booze even if the journey is challenging Mistakes: She said tying the knot with 65-year-old A Time To Kill actor Doug Hutchinson was a bad move and she won't pretend otherwise; seen with Doug in 2013 Courtney broke the news of her newfound sobriety on Instagram on Tuesday as she wrote: 'Alcohol, I'm breaking up with you. It's been a toxic relationship for years. 'Something I used to cope, to escape, to survive. But it's hurt me more than it's ever helped me - publicly and privately. 'Last night was the last time. I'm done letting it control me. I'm done feeling sick and ashamed. 'I want to be fully present in my life. I want to face my past, my trauma, and my current reality with clear eyes and real strength. To those who understand this battle - thank you.' She added: 'Please respect my space as I walk this new path. It's not easy, but it's necessary. 'This is something I've gone back and forth about posting. 'But my life has always been so public and this is a big part of my healing.' Hugh Hefner's ex-girlfriend Crystal Hefner commented: 'I am so proud of you. I haven't drank since 2009 and it's the best thing. Life is so much brighter and happier without the poison bringing me down. You got this.' Courtney replied: 'Soul sis❤️.' Former talk show host Ricki Lake added: 'You got this.' This comes after Courtney shared her feelings on her tragic teenage bride story after her 14 year wedding anniversary. The beauty told that tying the knot with A Time To Kill actor Hutchison was a bad move and she won't pretend otherwise. She was just 16 when she married Hutchison, who was 51 at the time, at a Las Vegas wedding chapel in 2011. 'It stays with me, the pain, I won't stay quiet,' she said, adding Doug was 'emotionally abusive. 'My voice is my power and for every voice silenced, I'll shout louder. 'And I won't ask for permission to do what's right. Not anymore. I speak for that little girl within.'
