Meet the South Bend artist chosen to create a mural of one of Indy's most beloved hoops icons on one of the city's most popular streets.
Why it matters: Nate Baranowski's 24-foot piece will debut this summer in time to welcome scores of fans to the Circle City for the sellout 2025 WNBA All-Star Game in July.
What he's saying:"Tamika Catchings is a magnetic personality and an amazing force for good to those around her and in her community," Baranowski said in a statement. "She is not just a legendary basketball player, but also an entrepreneur, activist, broadcaster, volunteer, mentor and motivational speaker. I wanted my design to reflect this high-energy force surrounding her."
Zoom in: Baranowski was one of 98 artists who responded to an international call from the Indy Arts Council and WNBA All-Star 2025 Host Committee.
Baranowski — a University of Illinois grad with a degree in fine arts and a passion for street painting — has experience with large chalk murals, painted murals, acrylic on canvas and various forms of digital painting.
He was the only Indiana creator to make the final four.
The inspo: The selection committee said Baranowski best captured Catchings' bright personality, basketball legacy and impact on Indy.

Caitlin Clark may be a fan favorite, receiving nearly 1.3 million fan votes for the WNBA All-Star Game, but her peers are less enthused with the Indiana Fever star. Clark was named one of two captains for the July 19 WNBA All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse because she received the most fan votes. Minnesota's Napheesa Collier finished second in the fan vote and will serve as the other captain. But in the player vote, Clark was ranked ninth... among guards. If she had played enough games to qualify, Clark would rank 11th in the league in scoring and second in assists. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year struggled recently, making just 1-of-23 from behind the arc with 22 turnovers in the three games before her recent groin strain. She's questionable for Tuesday's Commissioner's Cup final at Minnesota. Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell (who is averaging a team-best 18.9 ppg) was ranked sixth among guards in the player vote. She was third in fan voting and 11th in the media vote for guards. Aliyah Boston, who was named an All-Star Game starter on Monday, was second in fan voting among forwards and ninth in both the media and player vote. If you think the player vote was harsh on Clark, Kelsey Plum was sixth in the fan and media voting but was 16th (!) in player voting. Plum is fourth in the league in scoring, averaging 20.6 ppg. Rookie Paige Bueckers Named WNBA All-Star Starter; Nneka Ogwumike Gets 10th Nod
Paige Bueckers earned her first WNBA All-Star Game selection, while Nneka Ogwumike has earned her 10th, the league announced Monday as it named the players who will join Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier as All-Star starters. Bueckers was the No. 1 draft pick this year by the Dallas Wings. She will be the 10th rookie to start the game. It's the third straight season it has happened, with Clark getting a start last year and Aliyah Boston in 2013. Bueckers is ranked 11th in the league in scoring (18.4 points) and sixth in assists (5.8) to lead all rookies in both categories. She received the sixth most votes from the fans. Ogwumike, who stars for Seattle, is tied for the third-most All-Star appearances with Tamika Catchings and Brittney Griner. She trails only Sue Bird (13) and Diana Taurasi (11). Clark and Collier were named captains of the teams on Sunday for receiving the most fan votes. The pair will draft their teams by choosing among the other starters as well as the 12 reserves chosen by coaches. The reserves will be announced this weekend. New York's Breanna Stewart and Las Vegas' A'ja Wilson each earned a seventh All-Star nod and will be in the starting lineup. Other starters selected Monday by a combination of fan, media and player voting included guards Allisha Gray of Atlanta and Sabrina Ionescu of New York. The frontcourt also will feature Phoenix's Satou Sabally and Boston, Clark's Indiana teammate. The starters were selected from across the WNBA without regard to conference affiliation. Players and a media panel joined fans in selecting the starters. Fan voting accounted for 50%, while the player and media votes each accounted for 25%. Boston finished fewer than 1,400 votes behind Minnesota star Collier for second in the fan voting. While Clark finished first in the fan vote, she was ninth in the players' vote and third in the media voting for guards. Kelsey Mitchell of Indiana and Angel Reese of Chicago both just missed making the All-Star starters list, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively, at their positions.
