Shaquille O'Neal Says Retiring in The Villages Is a ‘Dream Scenario'—and He Wants To Find Out if the Wild Rumors Are True

Yahoo6 days ago
NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal has revealed his 'dream' is to retire in Florida's infamous community, The Villages, to discover if the sordid rumors about what goes on there are true.
The 53-year-old former Miami Heat star, who shot his time on the basketball court away in 2011, has been sharing his pro insights as a sports analyst on 'Inside the NBA' and his podcast, 'The Big Podcast,' which he co-hosts with Adam Lefkoe.
Most recently, O'Neal and Lefkoe welcomed boxing icon Mike Tyson to their studio and lifted the lid on what they want their future to look like.
Although it's been many years since O'Neal thought about his retirement from basketball, the athlete revealed that he now has his eyes on retiring from his string of careers in general—and is looking forward to settling down in one specific place.
When Lefkoe asked O'Neal what his 'dream retirement scenario' is, the basketball icon was quick to reveal that he already had a plan in place that saw him living the rest of his days at The Villages—the retirement community that has become known for its wild goings-on and STD reports.
He began by noting that he always thinks about the fact that he has 'seven summers' left until he is 60.
Tyson chimed in, 'That's how you have to think about, and then you have to ask yourself, 'What am I going to do at the end of my seventh summer?''
'I tell my kids all the time that I don't want them taking care of me,' O'Neal, who shares children Shareef, 25, Amirah, 23, Shaqir, 22, and Me'arah, 19, with ex-wife Shaunie, said. He also has a stepson, Myles, 28, from Shaunie's former marriage.
He also shares daughter Taahirah, 29, with ex-girlfriend, Arnetta Yardbourgh.
O'Neal then lifted the lid on where he hopes he will spend his days after ringing in age 65.
'The dream scenario is: There's this place called The Villages. The Villages is an old folks' home, but they have the highest rate of STDs. I want to be there.
'When I get to 65 and I can't move, take me down to Ocala, Florida. Just drop me off, my boy,' the hoops star said.
The Villages has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a trailer park in the 1970s. Today, it is a thriving, age-55-and-older community that spans 57 square miles—although it looks set to increase that footprint in the coming years.
Last year, U.S. Census data revealed that The Villages was the nation's fastest-growing metro, growing 4.7% between 2022 and 2023.
The purpose-built community offers its residents a wide array of amenities, including 3,000 social and special-interest clubs as well as activities like square dancing, drama, water ballet, belly dancing, precision golf cart driving, cheerleading, and tambourine tapping.
There are also 14 country clubs, 17 pools, and 100,000 golf carts.
Adding to The Villages' appeal is its access to all of the community amenities—gyms, pools, rec centers, softball fields, golf courses, clubs, and activities—are available for a fee of $199 per month, no matter the size of a resident's home.
However, while the community is advertised as a thriving 'backdrop where you can live life to the fullest,' it is The Villages' residents and its bustling social scene that have attracted the most attention over the years.
Many reports and rumors have emerged about the reportedly risqué scene that has emerged inside The Villages—with the community making national headlines in 2006, when WFTV news reported that its Women's Center had seen a enormous uptick in the number of cases of sexually transmitted diseases.
'One physician at the Women's Center of The Villages said even in her years working in Miami, she has never seen so many cases,' the report stated.
This quote went viral, and the community quickly became known as the 'STD Capital of America,' despite subsequent reporting calling attention to the fact that there was no accurate data to back up these rumors.
Still, the stain of scandal has persisted inside The Villages ever since—with more fuel added to that fire when reports began to surface, suggesting that a group of swingers living in the community were using 'loofah signaling' in order to publicly express their sexual preferences to other residents.
That rumor has been traced back to a riff made by comedian Tora Himan, an Orlando-area drag queen who previously performed at The Villages as part of a cabaret show.
A similar whisper that ran rampant involved upside-down pineapples. That scandal saw people on the web claiming that upside-down pineapples in The Villages were a way to signalize swinging.
As of this writing, there are over 800 homes for sale in The Villages on Realtor.com®. The community has roughly 71,000 homes total, with new ones springing up daily. The most expensive home on the market in The Villages right now clocks in at $2.4 million.
The pricier homes in The Villages tend to be on a golf course, preserve, or lake, according to real estate agent April Couturier. The home mentioned above checks two of those boxes and also happens to be in one of the upscale neighborhoods around Lake Sumter.
In addition to big plans for his retirement, O'Neal boasts an impressive real estate portfolio, holding the keys to a slew of multimillion-dollar properties in Texas, Florida, California, Georgia, and Nevada.

"League de-emphasized the physicality of the game" - Grant Hill explains how rule changes helped Steve Nash's Suns revolutionize basketball

"League de-emphasized the physicality of the game" - Grant Hill explains how rule changes helped Steve Nash's Suns revolutionize basketball originally appeared on Basketball Network. The Mike D'Antoni-coached Phoenix Suns changed the game forever. Their high-octane and positionless style, led by Steve Nash, became a precursor to the modern NBA game we see today. Legendary forward Grant Hill, a member of those Suns teams, claimed that while D'Antoni's system was revolutionary in itself, changes within the league also helped propel it to what it became. "That [D'Antoni] style of play changed things," Hill said in 2013, via ESPN. "A lot of the sets that people run, the thinking, the getting up and down are Phoenix and Mike D'Antoni's system. A couple of things came together and aligned perfectly. The league de-emphasized the physicality of the game, [made it] less physical, more scoring. I think they made a concerted effort to increase the scoring and not have these 84-85 ballgames." The banning of handchecking, reducing the back-court violation to eight seconds, and the legalization of zone defense were some of the rules that paved the way for faster and entertaining games. While most teams stuck to their old ways of orchestrating half-court sets and letting plays develop, D'Antoni was cooking up a system to take advantage of these new rules. Copycats The world first saw D'Antoni's radical offense in the 2004-05 season. The Suns led the league with 95.9 estimated possessions per 48 minutes. With Nash at the point guard spot, the Suns jacked up shots in less than seven seconds. Some were 3-pointers, while others were quick layups or dunks. Phoenix easily breached the 100-point mark, and more importantly, they were winning games. Other teams tried to integrate some of D'Antoni's principles into their playbooks. "It's a copycat league. People see something that works, they try it," Hill noted. "The same thing happened back in the '90s: very methodical, coaches called plays. A lot of trapping. It was a grind-it-out, physical, defensive battle. Maybe that started with the Pistons and was carried over by [Pat] Riley in the early '90s with the Knicks. Slowly teams started to incorporate that."Relentless Speaking on the "Mind the Game" podcast with LeBron James, Nash reflected on the Suns' timeless influence on the NBA. He observed that teams could not keep up their tempo. Nash and company did not waste time getting into their actions and sets. This constant pressure broke teams even before the final buzzer sounded. "I remember we started the year, I had like 31 and five or something. And I think what we noticed is, by the fourth quarter, teams were done. A lot of times, teams were done," Nash told LeBron James. "It was the relentless pace—pace after makes, getting it out, and I'm just going. Happy to throw ahead, or happy just to take it. If it's semi-transition or, you know, secondary break, we're straight into our drag action. We're running the floor. We're getting to it against a defense that's just trying to get back," the two-time MVP continued. Only a fool would call the Nash-led Suns bums. They may not have won a title but changed the game for good. If it weren't for the Suns, the NBA wouldn't be as entertaining and tactical as it is story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Aug 3, 2025, where it first appeared.

Spurs could acquire $224 million superstar, cut ties with Wembanyama's new star guard

The San Antonio Spurs were fortunate enough to have the second overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, which led to Dylan Harper. However, at the trade deadline last year, they traded for All-Star point guard De'Aaron Fox to be Victor Wembanyama's longtime running mate. Now with a clog at the guard position, they could look to trade one of them away, and Fox is likely the odd man out between him, Harper, and Stephon Castle. One scenario could be Fox being moved to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Scottie Barnes. Financially, this one-for-one move works, but other picks or players would likely be involved. Barnes is only 23 years old, but has thrived in Toronto, averaging a career 17.2 points per game, 5.8 assists per game, and 7.7 rebounds per game with great efficiency, all while being a positive embraced the point forward role for the Raptors until they traded for Immanuel Quickley, but Fox would certainly be an upgrade. On top of that, their most recent first-round pick is Collin Murray-Boyles, a 6'7 (same height as Barnes) 20-year-old whose minutes would suffer playing behind Barnes. Toronto has young pieces like Gradey Dick and RJ Barrett, but also players they can compete with, like Brandon Ingram and Jakob Poeltl. Their direction is unclear, nonetheless, bringing in Fox to be the commander of this young offense would be an excellent idea. This would allow Wembanyama and Barnes to grow as an elite frontcourt, all while giving their young guards the room to develop.

Michael Porter Jr. Allegedly Spotted With Transgender Model At Hotel In Taiwan

Michael Porter Jr. Allegedly Spotted With Transgender Model At Hotel In Taiwan originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Michael Porter Jr. finds himself in new surroundings this offseason after the Denver Nuggets traded him to the Brooklyn Nets. While Porter adjusts to life in New York, he has now found himself at the center of a viral report coming out of Taiwan. Mirror Media reports that a transgender model named Xiao A La checked into a five-star hotel with an NBA player a couple of years ago. The publication obtained a blurred picture of the two together, and based on the characteristics, fans have speculated that the player is Porter. Porter visited Taiwan in September 2023, which gives some credence to this theory. According to this report, Xiao A La had received a private invitation from a man who was staying in the presidential suite at the hotel. Xiao did not know who he was and only later found out that he was an NBA player. Xiao A La, who underwent gender reassignment surgery in Thailand in 2020, did not go into detail regarding the meeting. Xiao did reveal, though, that she accidentally broke her tooth and required emergency treatment the following day. With Porter at the center of all this, fans dug up comments he made on his Curious Mike podcast in 2024. 'I hear wild stories about some of these dudes," Porter said. "... Their fetishes get so crazy. They might be a straight man, but they've done so much stuff with so many pretty girls, and they have so much access to pretty girls, that now they're over here messing with [trans women], or now they're over here messing with dudes.' There is nothing wrong with any of this, of course, but there is still a stigma that gets associated. Porter is unlikely to address this subject, and he isn't obliged to either. The 27-year-old's sole focus would be on impressing when he steps out on the court for his new team. The Nets have high expectations as well, with an executive backing Porter to challenge for the scoring title. He averaged 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game for the Nuggets as the third option in 2024-25, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in a bigger story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Aug 3, 2025, where it first appeared.
