SAN FRANCISCO — Starling Marte was contributing offensively for the Mets before he hit the injured list in early July, and since his return, he has regained that momentum.
The veteran DH now has six hits in his 10 at-bats since his activation from the IL last week after going 2-for-3 with a walk in the Mets' 5-3 win over the Giants on Sunday.
Marte missed two weeks after receiving a gel injection for discomfort in his right knee.
'He's been huge,' manager Carlos Mendoza said before the victory. 'He continues to give us solid at-bats against lefties, righties. He goes down and missed a few days, and then he comes back and seems like he didn't miss a beat.'

Marte entered play with a .262/.364/.412 slash line with four homers and 20 RBIs. In the starting lineup again Sunday, Marte reached base three times for the second straight day.
Mendoza's other option would have been to start Mark Vientos as the DH.
'I am going to try to keep [Marte] in the lineup, but at the same time, I am going to continue to monitor him,' Mendoza said. 'I'm going to continue to give him days off and get his feedback. He's usually pretty honest with us, so we'll go game by game and series by series.'

Paul Blackburn was sharp in a potential final rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse.
The right-hander allowed one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk over 6 ¹/₃ innings. Blackburn, who is rehabbing a shoulder impingement, could next rejoin the team as a long reliever/sixth starter, but Mendoza indicated a decision won't be reached until at least Monday.

The All-Star closer has allowed only one earned run over his past 32 appearances, owning a 4-0 record with 17 saves since April 23.
Jose Siri, who has been sidelined since April with a fractured left tibia, still isn't close to resuming baseball activities, but it's still expected he will play again this season, according to Mendoza.
Siri's workouts have consisted of running in a pool to strengthen the leg.

Broncos roster: DL Eyioma Uwazurike (No. 96) enters Year 2 post-suspension

Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fourth-year defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike, No. 96. Before the Broncos: Uwazurike (6-6, 316 pounds) got on NFL scouts' radar in 2019 after receiving an honorable mention All-Big 12 notice. He totaled 32 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in 13 starts for the Cyclone that season. For an encore, Uwazurike earned an honorable mention notice again in 2020. Last season, he earned a first-team honors, posting 42 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and nine sacks in 13 games (10 starts). Broncos tenure: Uwazurike was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round (122nd overall) in the 2022 NFL draft. In 2022, Uwazurike spent most of the season on the practice squad before playing in eight games in the latter half of the year, where he was credited with 17 total tackles (11 solo, six assisted) and one pass deflection. In 2023, Uwazurike hit a rocky patch when he was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for gambling on NFL games, teammates and college football games that he participated in. As a result, he did not participate or have contact with the Broncos during 2023. In 2024, Uwazurike was reinstated by the league, and was given a second chance at life as a football player. Uwazurike had a comeback season, playing in four games, making 11 total tackles (three solo, eight assisted) and .5 sacks. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Backup or practice squad player. Uwazurike has faced his share of adversity, much of it self-inflicted. Now, he will be locked in a battle for being a backup with rookie Sai'vion Jones and Matt Henningsen. It remains to be seen who will win the battle. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Legendary Yankees Player Named Aaron Boone Replacement Option If Team Fires Him

The team has not looked great recently, and Aaron Boone is being criticized for the lack of turnaround. Boone's under contract through 2027, and according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, his job is seemingly in no danger. However, fans are upset with the Yankees' slide. FanSided's Jake Elman made a list of potential replacements for Boone if the Yankees shockingly fire Boone. He tabbed Yankees legend and veteran manager Don Mattingly as a replacement for Boone. TORONTO, ON - JULY 21: Manager Aaron Boone #17 of the New York Yankees looks on during batting practice before a game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on July 21, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. MoreMattingly played 14 seasons for the Yankees. He was an MVP Award winner, a six-time All-Star, a nine-time Gold Glover, a three-time Silver Slugger and a batting champion. He hit 222 home runs and had over 1,000 RBIs. Mattingly was 889-950 as a manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins. He was the 2020 National League Manager of the Year as well. Brian Cashman has hired two managers, Boone and Joe Girardi. Both were former players as well. The Yankees are unlikely to fire Boone, but it is hard to deny that the Yankees have not reached their aspirations under his lead. In his first seven seasons as manager, the team has won one American League Pennant and has a losing record in the postseason. If the Yankees collapse in the second half, more and more discourse around Boone's job security will take place. More MLB: Eugenio Suárez Trade Sweepstakes Takes Wild Turn For Worst After Scary HBP

More Jamie Sabau/ Getty Images Sandberg was elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005. He played 16 seasons, 15 with the Cubs and one with the Philadelphia Phillies. He was a National League MVP, 10-time All-Star, nine-time Gold Glover and seven-time Silver Slugger. His seven Silver Sluggers are the most by a second baseman ever, and he held the record for home runs by a second baseman when he retired in 1997. He was drafted by the Phillies and made his debut in 1981. He was traded to the Cubs after that season. In 1983, he became a full-time second baseman and changed the position in terms of power. From 1984 to 1993, he was an All-Star every season and hit 225 home runs. He finished his career with 282 home runs, 1,061 RBIs, 344 stolen bases and a .795 OPS. The Cubs have had plenty of legendary players wear their uniform. Sandberg will be remembered for bringing unprecedented power to the second base position and paving the way for power hitters at the position after him.
