India vs England 4th Test: Team India Plays Hanuman Chalisa In Dressing Room To Boost Morale Before Manchester Clash

India.com13 hours ago
With the series finely poised at 2-1 in England's favour, Team India kicked off their preparations for the fourth Test in Manchester with a relaxed yet spirited training session at Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. Having narrowly lost the Lord's Test by just 22 runs, the squad seemed determined to shake off the disappointment — not through intense drills, but by invoking good vibes through a unique blend of music in the dressing room.

From Hanuman Chalisa echoing off the walls to English pop and Punjabi bangers energizing the mood, the Indian camp turned to a mix of spiritual calm and youthful exuberance. The Shubman Gill-led side understands the enormity of the task ahead, but the dressing room ambiance sent a clear message: the fight isn't over, and the belief is unwavering.
Light Moments and Heavy Stakes: Bumrah, Pant Join in Banter
As the squad descended from the team bus after a tiring ride from London, the picturesque Beckenham setting lifted their visibly jaded spirits. Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, both crowd favourites and central to India's Test hopes, kept the atmosphere light with humorous banter.
When a journalist tried conversing with Pant from afar — unable to hear over the dressing room's music — Bumrah quipped, 'Aaj Duggal ji behere hain,' referencing a popular Bollywood line and evoking laughter from the press corps. Pant, nursing a minor finger injury, and Bumrah, undergoing workload management, stuck to warm-ups and gym work, sparking speculation about their availability for the Manchester clash.
Injury Alarm: Arshdeep Singh Suffers Hand Cut During Nets
While the vibe was light-hearted, Team India were dealt an injury concern when left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh hurt his bowling hand. The 26-year-old was bowling alongside Prasidh Krishna when he attempted to stop a fiercely struck ball from Sai Sudharsan. The ball clipped his fingers, leaving a visible cut and forcing him off the nets.
India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate later confirmed the incident, saying, 'He took a ball while bowling, it's a cut. The medical team will assess if stitches are needed. That will impact planning for the next few days.' Arshdeep was seen walking with a bandaged hand, casting doubt over his availability for the crucial fourth Test.
Coaching Staff Step Up, Morkel 'Claims Five-Fer'
With both Arshdeep and Akash Deep not bowling, India's bowling coach Morne Morkel stepped in — quite literally — rolling his arm over during nets. Though he admitted he couldn't replicate Jofra Archer's express pace, Morkel provided meaningful overs for the batters.
'It's about giving the batters quality practice, especially when we're short on bowlers for a session. It's also fun. Morne went back claiming a five-wicket haul,' laughed ten Doeschate, keeping the mood buoyant.

Kuldeep IN, Debutant To Replace Bumrah? Ajinkya Rahane Answers India's Queries

Last Updated: Ajinkya Rahane urges Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion in India's XI for the third Test against England. He also suggests Arshdeep Singh for Jasprit Bumrah, if the latter is rested. Ajinkya Rahane has batted for Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion in India's 11 for the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. The Mumbai captain believes that on flat tracks, which have been the theme of the three Tests so far, Kuldeep's wicket-taking ability adds more value than an all-rounder's extra 25-30 runs, while also making the team less reliant on senior pacers. Since his debut in 2017 under Rahane's captaincy, Kuldeep, once called India's best overseas spinner by Ravi Shastri, has played just 13 Tests. That's the same number as his current India bowling coach, the long-retired Morne Morkel, in that time. Unlike Rahane and Ravi Shastri, Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir have preferred batting depth over bowling might, choosing as many as three all-rounders in the Lord's Test. 'Depending on the condition of the wicket, I feel Kuldeep should play," Rahane said in a recent video on his YouTube channel, as quoted by Sportskeeda. 'If the wicket is similar to the last three Test matches, Kuldeep should play because you need guys who can get you those wickets. Our batting unit is doing really well. Even if you score 25-30 runs less, that's okay. But you need people who can get you those wickets. You don't want to depend on your leading fast bowlers every time," he added. If India decide to bring in Kuldeep, it could be for either the big score-searching Karun Nair or Nitish Kumar Reddy, who did impress with the ball but failed with the bat at Lord's. Rahane was also asked if Arshdeep Singh could be an able replacement for Jasprit Bumrah if India decide to rest the latter (which they haven't suggested they'll yet) at Old Trafford. 'I think so, yes," Rahane said. 'If Bumrah is not playing, Arshdeep is the guy. Because in England, you need a left-arm seamer who can swing the ball both ways, and also, with a different angle, he can create that rough for the spinners. So, if Bumrah doesn't play, Arshdeep should play the next one." The Test begins at 3:30 pm IST on July 23. view comments First Published: July 18, 2025, 23:17 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Amit Shah: Govt Preparing For 2036 Olympics; Rs 50000 Per Month To 3000 Athletes

Last Updated: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced Rs 50,000 monthly aid for 3,000 athletes for the 2036 Olympics, highlighting the Modi government's fivefold increase in the sports budget. The government is gearing up for the 2036 Olympics by providing a monthly assistance of Rs 50,000 to around 3,000 athletes, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Friday. Speaking at an event where the Indian contingent participating in the 21st World Police and Fire Games 2025 was honoured, Shah emphasised that victory and defeat are a perpetual cycle of life. He stressed that setting the goal to win and planning for victory should be intrinsic to everyone's nature, with winning becoming a habit. Shah highlighted that individuals who develop a winning habit consistently perform exceptionally well. He noted that the Modi government is making significant efforts to promote sports in every village and is scientifically selecting and training children in various age groups across all sports. What PM Modi Plans For Sportspersons? He stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, sports have received significant attention over the past decade, with the budget for sports increasing fivefold. The government is systematically planning for the 2036 Olympics by supporting approximately 3,000 athletes financially. 'Under the leadership of PM Modi, sports has been given great importance in the last 10 years. The budget has been increased by five times. The government is also preparing for the 2036 Olympics by providing assistance of Rs 50,000 per month to approximately 3,000 athletes and is making a detailed systematic plan for it," he said. Shah suggested that every police officer's daily routine should begin with a morning parade with subordinate staff and conclude with sports activities in the evening. He believes that regular involvement in sports will not only alleviate stress but also enhance work quality. 'If all police personnel develop a habit of regular sports, it will not only relieve stress, but also improve the quality of work," he said. He urged all police forces part of the 'All India Police Sports Control Board' to aim for at least three medals each, predicting that achieving this goal would lead to surpassing records at the World Police and Fire Games 2029 in Gujarat. 'If we achieve this goal, the record you have set this year will be surpassed by you at the World Police and Fire Games to be held in Gujarat in 2029," he said. He emphasised the importance of celebrating the success of police personnel who participated in the World Police and Fire Games 2025, ensuring the public receives accurate information about their achievements. Shah drew a parallel to Arjuna's focus on his target, urging police officers and athletes to aim for the World Police and Fire Games 2029 with similar determination. These games will take place in 2029 across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Kevadia. As India advances on the global sports stage, Shah encouraged the country's athletes to perform in a manner that garners worldwide attention to India's sports potential. He expressed confidence that India would be among the top five medal-winning countries in the 2036 Olympics. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
