Meet Sarah Pidgeon, who'll play Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in American Love Story: she starred in Broadway's Stereophonic and Hulu's Tiny Beautiful Things, and rocked Balenciaga at last year's Tonys

In March, Sarah Pidgeon was cast as the lead in Ryan Murphy's upcoming series American Love Story, where she will play the fashion publicist who married John F. Kennedy Jr –
Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy
Her selection made headlines, but the spotlight quickly shifted to a debate around the portrayal of Bessette's iconic style after wardrobe stills from the show sparked online criticism.

Fashion watchers claimed that the test images cheapened Bessette's look, and an article by The Cut slammed the clothing choices, saying: 'There is no life, there is no story, there is no familiarity with these pieces.'
Amid the backlash,
Murphy clarified that a 'style advisory board' is overseeing the wardrobe and that the names of its 10 members would be announced soon. The team has even acquired some pieces from Bessette's own wardrobe and replicated her famous Narciso Rodriguez wedding dress.

Pidgeon has yet to weigh in on the backlash – and likely won't for now – but what else do we know about the actress?

Before landing the high-profile role, Pidgeon was already building a reputation as a talented actress. Best known for her role in Amazon Prime series The Wilds, Pidgeon also earned a Hollywood Critics Association Award nomination for her gripping performance in Hulu's Emmy-nominated miniseries Tiny Beautiful Things.
Pidgeon's character in The Wilds, Leah Rilke, is stranded on an island with a group of girls following a plane crash. The story follows Leah as the group tries to survive the wilderness and discover the secret behind the plane 'accident'. In Tiny Beautiful Things, Pidgeon plays a younger version of adult character Clare as she deals with the news that her beloved mother is going to die soon.

Smoke's Taron Egerton, Jurnee Smollett and Dennis Lehane on the new Apple TV+ series

American author and screenwriter Dennis Lehane has a healthy respect for the power of fire. He learned that from surviving a house fire in Boston, Massachusetts, in his thirties. Advertisement Lehane was living on the top floor of a block of flats when a propane tank on the roof exploded and started a blaze. The landlord was replacing the building's smoke detectors at the time, so they were not working. Lehane is lucky to be alive and he credits, in part, the flames. 'If you're trapped in fire – if you wake up and the building you're in is on fire – it's up to the fire at that point. It's really up to the whims of the fire, whatever's going to happen to you. And I find that lack of control fascinating.' Lehane, whose literary canon includes the novels-turned-film-hits Gone, Baby, Gone and Mystic River, has turned to fire for his latest project – Apple TV+'s new nine-episode crime drama Smoke. It is based on the true story of a former arson investigator who was convicted in 1998 of serial arson. He was captured in part after he wrote a novel about a firefighter who was a serial arsonist. The case – chronicled in the 2021 podcast Firebug – sparked something in Lehane.

Why Hollywood is turning to Roblox and other gaming platforms to tempt Gen Z into cinemas

Surrounded by virtual cliffs and a cascading waterfall, dragon riders on Roblox's massive online gaming platform immerse themselves in a memorable scene from the new How to Train Your Dragon movie, a remake of the 2010 animated box-office hit of the same name. Advertisement In the sequence, the young Viking Hiccup reaches out his hand to touch Toothless, the black, green-eyed dragon he once feared. After players feed Toothless enough digital fish, their avatars reach out to pet the dragon, mimicking the scene from the movie. Then they hop on and fly on the dragon to an island where they can watch the trailer. For 21-year-old Annabelle Barone, training a virtual dragon is an experience she will remember. 'It just makes me want to see [the new movie] even more,' says Barone, who plans to see the film with friends.

Meet in-demand celebrity stylist Dara Allen: the trans fashionista is behind Addison Rae's and Hunter Schafer's edgy red carpet looks – but she still dreams of dressing Britney Spears

Addison Rae 's transformation is complete. The 24-year-old, who initially rose to fame on TikTok, has metamorphosed into a bona fide pop superstar – and her personal style has come along for the ride thanks to one celebrity stylist in particular: Dara Allen. The cover of Rae's debut album, Addison, sees her sporting a tight, tie-dye yellow-orange dress, which was personally designed by Allen. When Rae appeared at last year's MTV Video Music Awards, Allen styled her in a misshapen white satin bra and pants and paired them with a voluminous tulle bustle – a look that caused a huge stir online. Allen told Harper's Bazaar that her inspiration for the outfit was a combination of Rae's favourite pieces from her 'Diet Pepsi' music video, and the trailblazing looks debuted at previous VMAs by the likes of Madonna (see the Material Girl's bridal look at the 1984 awards). Most importantly, Allen says, it was Rae's personality that held it all together: 'If you're that comfortable in your body, why cover it up with clothes?' Addison Rae wears a white panties and bra set with feather details, paired with a white tulle bustle and white peep-toe shoes, as designed by Dara Allen. Photo: @dara._/Instagram Allen has said she loves bizarre, challenging and extreme looks, but never wants them to be something people can't understand, per Harper's Bazaar.
