Plane Crash Involving Skydiving Aircraft at Cross Keys Airport in New Jersey

Cedar News03-07-2025
On Wednesday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred at Cross Keys Airport in Monroe Township, New Jersey, when a Cessna 208B plane carrying 15 people crashed shortly after taking off. The crash happened at approximately 5:30 p.m., as the plane went off the end of the runway during the early stages of its flight.
According to officials, the aircraft was leased to Skydive Cross Keys, a well-known skydiving company in the region. Initial reports from the Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) indicate that the plane had experienced engine trouble prior to the crash, though the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Casualties and Medical Response
Three people sustained critical injuries and were airlifted to a nearby hospital by helicopter. Gloucester County Emergency Management confirmed that trauma surgeons were on the scene to help triage the victims. At Cooper University Hospital in Camden, three individuals were reported to be in critical condition, while eight others with less severe injuries were being treated in the emergency department. Four additional individuals, with minimal injuries, were in the hospital's waiting room as of Wednesday evening.
Emergency Response and Ongoing Investigation
Following the crash, emergency teams from various agencies responded quickly to the scene, including local firefighters, paramedics, and the F.A.A. An urgent appeal was made to the public by Gloucester County Emergency Management, urging people to avoid the area due to a 'mass casualty incident' in progress.
A news report from Philadelphia's 6abc station showed a chaotic emergency response on a rural road, with victims being loaded onto stretchers and transported to waiting ambulances.
Skydive Cross Keys Response
Skydive Cross Keys, which operates out of the airport, has been a staple of the Northeast's skydiving community, offering tandem jumps, lessons toward skydiving certification, and solo jumps for licensed divers. The company has yet to comment further on the incident but has assured the public that they are cooperating with the investigation.
The crash has left many in the community shaken, and local authorities are continuing to assess the damage and investigate the cause of the plane's failure.

Australia's Caribbean cricket tour ends with a perfect 8-0 record in tests and T20s

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (AP) — Australia completed a sweep of the Twenty20 international cricket series with a three-wicket victory over West Indies on Monday to finish its Caribbean tour with an 8-0 record. Australia went into the last game on a 7-match winning streak following the 3-0 test series sweep and victories in the first four of the T20 internationals. After winning the toss for the eighth straight time, Australia sent the home team in to bat and dismissed West Indies for 170 two balls short of the alloted 20 overs. Shimron Hitmyer's 52 from 31 balls and Sherfane Rutherford's 35 off 17 propped up the innings but the target wasn't big enough to put genuine pressure on the Australian batters. Ben Dharshuis took 3-41 and Nathan Ellis finished with 2-32, while spinner Adam Zampa returned 1-20 in his 100th T20 international after taking a wicket and having a chance dropped off his bowling in the penultimate over. The Australians reached 173-7 with 18 balls to spare, with a 63-run fifth-wicket partnership between Mitchell Owen (37 off 17 deliveries) and Cameron Green (32 off 18) stabilizing the innings. Aaron Hardie finished not out on 28. West Indies had Australia in trouble in the opening powerplay with Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph taking two wickets apiece, but the runs kept flowing. Holder dismissed Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck, the first ball of the second over, when the Australian allrounder swung at a ball that shaped away and edged to short third-man where Jediah Blades juggled the catch but held the second grab. Holder also removed Josh Inglis (10) at the end of the second over. Joseph bowled Mitch Marsh (14) as Australia slipped to 29-3 after 2.2 overs and, after on onslaught of sixes, he had Tim David (30 from 12 balls) caught in the deep as Australia slipped to 60-4 in the fifth over. From there, Owen and Green dominated with a succession of sixes, including one by Owen that landed on the roof on a pavilion. Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein was finally introduced to the attack to change the pace, and had an immediate impact with his second delivery to dismiss Owen and break up the important partnership. Hosein also dismissed Green and Ben Dwarshuis to return 3-17. ___ AP cricket:

Australian lender CBA to cut 45 jobs in AI shift, draws union backlash

(Reuters) -Commonwealth Bank of Australia confirmed on Tuesday it is cutting 45 jobs as part of a shift toward using artificial intelligence to handle certain tasks, prompting a union to accuse the bank of excluding workers from the evolving economy. CBA, the country's biggest lender, said it is currently investing more than A$2 billion ($1.30 billion) in its operations, including frontline teams and technology services, due to which "some roles and work can change". Australia's Finance Sector Union (FSU) has accused CBA of axing frontline roles in favour of automation and offshoring. In a statement, the union claimed that a total of 90 roles were being eliminated, including 45 positions in the bank's direct banking system. According to the FSU, these jobs were cut following the introduction of a new voice bot system on the bank's inbound customer enquiries line in June. "We're also proactively creating new roles to support career growth and help our people transition into future-fit opportunities," CBA said. The bank said it is consulting on the affected roles and looking at other internal jobs and reskilling opportunities for its people, while it denied offshoring jobs as per the FSU's claim.
