Teddy bear made from fake skin leads to US arrest

A man in California has been arrested over a grisly scene at a petrol station, where police say he staged a "macabre teddy bear" made to look as if it were constructed from human Corona Villanueva, 23, is accused of planting false evidence and causing an emergency by leaving the bizarre creation at an AMPM service station on Sunday afternoon in the city of Victorville. The bear's discovery led to a police investigation and a coroner's examination of the item, while the petrol station was closed as a sense of unease spread in the community. On Monday, the sheriff's office ruled the bear wasn't made of any human body parts and dubbed the toy a "prank". Mr Villanueva was identified and arrested on Monday. It is unclear whether he has hired a lawyer who can speak on his behalf. The gruesome discovery in Victorville, 80 miles (130km) northeast of Los Angeles, had locals worried about a possible serial killer on the loose. The item was found around midday on Sunday at the filling station on Bear Valley Road when a witness called police to report that "a teddy bear made of what looked like human flesh was left in front of the business".A video posted online shows police responding to the scene as a glove-clad official from the coroner's office examines the object and places it into an evidence bag. A statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's office on Monday did not mention a potential motive, and said the "investigation into who left the teddy bear at the business is continuing"."Incidents such as this take up valuable emergency resources and put the public at risk, possibly delaying response time to legitimate calls for service," the statement said. "We would like to thank those that reported information that was helpful during the investigation of this case."South Carolina artist Robert Kelly has taken credit for creating the object, telling US media that he recently sold the figure to a buyer in Victorville. "Our work is pretty easily recognisable, and people were sending the articles (about the petrol station) left and right. I looked, and sure enough it was the bear I sent out last week," Mr Kelly told People magazine. "Every artist wants credit [for] their work, so I said 'I made that', and haven't been able to catch up with messages since."In a post to Facebook on Sunday, Mr Kelly denied having any knowledge of what the buyer intended to do with the bear. "No I did not have any knowledge of the [buyer's] intentions nor was I involved in a prank on the other side of the nation from me," he Kelly, who sells his work through a shop on the website Etsy, specialises in horror creations for Halloween displays and films. Other items are also made to resemble construction from human body parts, similar to the bear.

Pensioner, 69, 'becomes latest British drug mule' after being caught 'trying to smuggle 60kg of cannabis resin onto Spanish ferry'

A British pensioner has been arrested in Spain after allegedly attempting to smuggle 60kg of cannabis resin worth an estimated £350,000 onto a ferry. The 69-year-old, who has not been named, was caught red-handed as he prepared to board a vessel from Ceuta, Spain's North African enclave, bound for Algeciras, near Gibraltar. Spanish police swooped yesterday after a sniffer dog helping with routine checks became visibly agitated near the man's UK-plated vehicle, prompting officers to carry out a thorough search. But what they found was staggering. Authorities stumbled across 62.3kg of cannabis resin stashed away in a concealed compartment built into the roof of the car. The packages were branded with names including 'Dream Gelato' and 'Serial Milk', suggesting the drugs were prepped and packaged for illegal distribution. Local authorities have yet to confirm the street value of the seizure, but early estimates suggest it could fetch upwards of £350,000 on the black market. The Brit - believed to reside in the UK - was taken into custody on the spot and is now being held by police. It's not yet known where he was ultimately headed, or whether he was acting alone. He is due to appear in court within the coming hours, where a judge will decide whether to release him on bail or remand him in custody as the criminal investigation continues. A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Ceuta said: 'Yesterday around 6pm officers from the First Fiscal and Border Company, along with colleagues from Ceuta's Cynological Group who inspect vehicles preparing to embark on ferries heading to Algeciras, carried out a check on a UK-plated vehicle with a specialist sniffer dog that indicated the possibility there were drugs inside. 'A full check on the areas the specialist dog had marked as possible hiding places for the drugs subsequently took place. 'A total of 62.3 kilos of cannabis resin was discovered in a secret compartment in the roof of the vehicle. 'The driver, a British man born in 1956 who was registered as a UK resident, was subsequently arrested. 'The suspect will now go before a court in Ceuta as the suspected author of a crime of drug trafficking. 'The drugs have been seized and handed over to a central government delegation and the vehicle is now under the supervision of the courts.' In May a 79-year-old British pensioner was arrested at a Chilean airport with £200,000 of powerful crystal meth. Bowls fans and fishing enthusiast William Eastman, from Milborne Port, Somerset, is currently languishing in prison in the south American country after being arrested at Santiago International Airport with five kilos of methamphetamine. He claimed to have no idea he was carrying drugs and told cops he only agreed to carry the suitcase containing the drugs on the promise of a £3.7million reward. The frail senior citizen produced a certificate with the prize money pledge as a 'phoney get-out' before being taken into custody when he was stopped after getting off a flight from Cancun in Mexico. He is expected to be formally charged in around three months time after police and prosecutors complete their ongoing investigation. News today of the Ceuta arrest came hours after police revealed they had arrested a 27-year-old British man at Lanzarote airport after four kilos of marijuana buds worth more than £6,000 was discovered in his luggage. The suitcase had been checked in for a flight to Tenerife South. Cops said the luggage had an 'unusually low weight for its size and was giving off a strong smell.' The unnamed man has already appeared in court but it was not clear today whether he had been remanded in custody or released on bail. In June it emerged a glamorous British OnlyFans model was languishing in a hellhole jail after being caught trying to smuggle nearly £200,000 worth of drugs into Spain. Clara Wilson, from Huthwaite, Notts, has been charged with a drug running offence after more than 34kg of cannabis were found in her suitcase at Barcelona's El Prat airport. And the pretty 36-year-old has been warned she faces being caged for up to four years and ordered to pay more than £750,000 in fines if convicted. Clara was held as she got off a Qatar Airways flight from Doha on January 20 although she is thought to have travelled to Barcelona from Bangkok with stopovers in India and Qatar. She was remanded to a prison near the Catalan capital two days after her arrest and has been held there ever since as part of her pre-trial detention. No trial date has yet been set, but an indictment shows public prosecutors have already demanded a four-year prison sentence and huge fine payment totalling £758,000 on conviction. Under Spanish law the British model can be held for up to two years in prison before she has to be bailed, but well-placed sources said they expected her to be tried later this year. At the end of May Spanish police went public with the arrests of a British couple aged 33 and 34 held at Valencia airport after 33 kilos of marihuana was found in their luggage. They claimed they were tourists coming from Thailand.

Browns rookie Quinshon Judkins accused of punching girlfriend in the mouth with closed fist, police reveal

Cleveland Browns rookie Quinshon Judkins is accused of punching his girlfriend in the mouth as well as striking her on the thigh and arm, according to a Florida police report obtained by Daily Mail. Judkins was arrested Saturday in Florida on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. Now a newly released police report has detailed the allegations against the former Ohio State running back, who is just weeks away from his first NFL training camp. As described to Fort Lauderdale police by his alleged victim, the two flew into the local airport on the evening of July 7, when she claims Judkins became irate with her after receiving text messages from his family. 'Oh wow, I can't believe you,' Judkins allegedly told the woman. 'I'm so done with you.' The contents of the messages are not explained in the police report, which was filed five days after the alleged incident. However, she did tell officers the texts were misleading and taken out of context. The two continued arguing as they boarded their rented Lamborghini SUV, where she says Judkins punched her in the 'mouth/chin area with a closed fist,' according to the police report. Judkins later pulled over, allowing her to exit the vehicle. She ultimately returned to the vehicle but chose to sit in the back, where she says Judkins struck her arm and thigh, according to the police report. The unidentified woman had bruising on her chin, thigh and arm, according to officers. Asked why she didn't phone 911 when the incident took place, the woman told the officer she was concerned about Judkins' 'recent success and career.' The woman said she lived with Judkins between May and December of 2024 before the two rekindled their relationship in June, two months after he was picked 36th overall by the Browns in the NFL Draft. Daily Mail has reached out to Judkins' attorney for comment. A spokesperson for the Cleveland Browns told that the franchise is 'aware and gathering more information.' The former Buckeyes star was expected to compete for a starting job with Nick Chubb moving on to the Houston Texans. Although Judkins has yet to put pen to paper on his deal with Cleveland, he is still susceptible to the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy, which could see him face discipline from the league. He remains the only member of the Browns' draft class yet to sign a contract with the likes of Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel inking their own deals weeks ago.
